By car from Pattaya to Hua Hin

Wichai RattanakulFleet manager

From ฿1,050 per day, our Pattaya fleet of 28 cars is ready for the 321.1 km run south to Hua Hin. We deliver the car to any address in Pattaya, and the delivery address, date and time are agreed with a manager before the booking is fixed.

Car rental in Pattaya for a trip to Hua Hin distance and drive time

The run is a single-day drive, not an overnight haul. Two figures decide the plan: 321.1 km on the road and roughly 229 minutes behind the wheel before long stops.

The distance and drive time from Pattaya to Hua Hin

Hua Hin sits 321.1 km from Pattaya by road, which works out at about 229 minutes of driving without long stops. The straight-line gap between the two is only 109.9 km, so the highway bends a long way around the inner Gulf of Thailand — up past Bangkok's eastern edge and back down the western shore. Stops come on top of the 229 minutes. Plan a full day for the run rather than a half-day, and you arrive in daylight with something left of the evening.

What decides how long the run actually takes

Motorway 7 (Bangkok–Chonburi–Pattaya) is 125.865 km of 8 lanes at 120 km/h.

What stretches the day most

  • Fuel and food stops: one proper stop is better than three short ones.

Route and tolls for car rental in Pattaya for a trip to Hua Hin

The motorway route and its tolls

The Bangkok–Pattaya stretch of M7 is 125.865 km, 8 lanes, 120 km/h, and the full Bangkok–Pattaya run costs 105–130 ฿. M7 meets M9 at Thap Chang Interchange, so a car coming from Don Mueang or from the west side of Bangkok joins the same ring. On a hired car, cash in the left-hand lanes is the simpler choice at the M7 booths. The 120 km/h limit on M7 is enforced primarily by speed cameras, and a camera fine is issued to the car owner — the company — then re-invoiced to the driver, so keep an eye on the signs rather than the traffic around you.

The free alternative via Hwy 34 and Hwy 3

Hwy 34 Bang Na–Trat and Hwy 3 Sukhumvit replace Motorway 7 on the Pattaya–Bangkok leg without a single toll booth: from Pattaya, Hwy 3 Sukhumvit runs north through Bang Phra and Bang Saen to the Chonburi bypass, and Hwy 34 carries you on to Bang Na. For a one-way run to Hua Hin, the choice usually comes down to what your time is worth that morning.

What the tolls add to the trip

RoutePaid sectionCostNotes
Motorway 7 + 9M7 booths, M9 via M-Flow฿105–130 (Bangkok–Pattaya run)8 lanes, 120 km/h, camera-enforced
Hwy 34 + Hwy 3Nonefree

The toll figures above cover the Bangkok–Pattaya stretch of M7; the western leg on M9 is charged separately by M-Flow. Fuel is the bigger number either way — at ฿41.44 for diesel B7 and ฿39.94 for gasohol 95, a 321.1 km run is worth planning around a full tank. Our cars leave with a full tank, and the tank is what you top up before return.

Choosing a car class for car rental in Pattaya to Hua Hin

Four classes on this page and 28 cars in total — the right one depends on how many travel, how much luggage goes along, and whether the driver wants a taller view over 321.1 km of highway.

Models worth naming for the run

  • Toyota Fortuner: a 2.4 L diesel SUV at ฿1,590, 150 hp, seven seats, rear-wheel or 4x4 — the pick when the car runs heavy and the driver wants the taller stance.
  • BYD Sealion 5: a plug-in hybrid crossover at ฿1,550, five seats, for anyone who wants electric running around the city and petrol range on the road south.

Every car on this page is automatic, so the choice comes down to seats, fuel type and luggage room — not to gearbox. The two questions that decide it are how many people sit in the third row for four hours and whether the boot has to hold a pushchair.

Seats, fuel and drive for a long highway day

  • Seats: 5, 7 or 12 — a 12-seat van such as the Hyundai H-1 or Toyota Commuter at ฿4,280 suits a group that would otherwise take two cars.
  • Fuel: diesel for the Fortuner, Pajero Sport, Everest and MU-X; hybrid for the Yaris Cross, Corolla Cross and Corolla Altis Hybrid; plug-in hybrid for the Sealion 5, Seal 5 DM-i and Tiggo 8 PHEV; electric for the Maxus MIFA 9.
  • Traffic side: Thailand drives on the left and every car here is right-hand drive, so a first-timer should take the shortest, straightest model available rather than the largest.
  • Comfort on the run: the Toyota Camry at ฿2,000 and the Honda CR-V at ฿1,690 suit a trip where the passenger cares about the back seat.

Tell us the headcount, the bag count and whether anyone needs a child seat, and the class picks itself before the booking is agreed with a manager.

What a Pattaya to Hua Hin car rental costs per day, week and month

Rates on this page start at ฿1,050 per day and stop at ฿6,420 — a spread of six times across 28 cars. The class you pick and the number of days you keep it decide where on that range your booking lands.

Daily, weekly and monthly rates

  • Daily: the rate you see per car is what a single day costs; a one-day hire is available, so a same-day run to Hua Hin and back is priced the same way as any other day.
  • Weekly: seven days are charged as daily rate x 6 — a Toyota Yaris Ativ HEV at ฿1,050 per day comes to ฿6,300 for the week.
  • Monthly: daily rate x 21 — the same Yaris Ativ HEV works out at ฿22,050 for the month.
  • VAT: 7% is already inside every figure shown.
  • Deposit: a bank card in the main driver's name carries the security hold; the amount is set out in the rental agreement.

The weekly and monthly multipliers are the only longer-booking arithmetic we use — daily x 6 and daily x 21 — and both bring the cost per day down the longer you keep the car. For a Hua Hin run that means a seven-day booking costs the same as six separate days.

What moves the price

Where a model sits in the range follows its class and its engine, not the length of the drive. Crossovers start at ฿1,050 with the Honda WR-V; the Comfort class opens at the same ฿1,050 with the Honda City Hatchback e:HEV and the Toyota Yaris Ativ HEV; Minivans begin at ฿1,290 with the Mitsubishi Xpander, Suzuki XL7 and Toyota Veloz; SUV & 4x4 starts at ฿1,590 with the Toyota Fortuner and Fortuner Legender.

One thing worth flagging: the cheapest car is not automatically the cheapest trip. A 7-seat Minivan at ฿1,290 carries more people and spreads the fuel bill further than two 5-seaters at ฿1,050 each, and on a 321.1 km run in each direction the difference is real.

The car is delivered to any address in Pattaya and to U-Tapao (UTP), Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Don Mueang (DMK); the delivery address, date and time are agreed with a manager before the booking is fixed, and a delivery fee, if any, is agreed when booking.

Documents and rules for Pattaya to Hua Hin car rental

A 321.1 km run crosses provincial lines, so the paperwork you carry matters more than the car you pick.

What a foreign driver needs in the car

  • Home driving licence: your national licence, valid and unexpired, must travel with you for the whole hire period.
  • International Driving Permit: a 1949 Geneva Convention IDP is recognised alongside the national licence, per section 42 bis of the Motor Vehicle Act.
  • ASEAN nationals: citizens of ASEAN countries drive on their national licence, with no permit and no conversion needed.
  • Fine for driving without one: the police fine runs ฿500–1,000, and an insurer may refuse a claim after an incident.
  • Passport and bank card: the passport and a bank card in the main driver's name are the documents we ask for; the security hold is set out in the rental agreement.
  • Age: minimum driver age is 21; conditions for drivers under 25 and for premium classes are set out in the rental agreement.

Speed limits, cameras and fines on the way

Thailand enforces 80 km/h inside built-up areas, 90 km/h outside them and 120 km/h on Motorway 7, and a sign can lower any of those figures. Pattaya City is named a built-up area in the 1969 law, so the 80 km/h limit applies from the first street you use. The Motorway 7 limit is enforced primarily by speed cameras, and a camera fine is issued to the car owner — the rental company — then re-invoiced to the renter. A speeding fine reaches ฿1,000, though the receipt usually shows ฿500.

Alcohol, seat belts and child seats

The alcohol threshold is 20 mg/dl for drivers under 20, holders of temporary licences, drivers without a licence and drivers holding the wrong category — a ministerial regulation published in the Royal Gazette on 20 September 2024. For everyone else, treat any drink as a reason not to drive. All passengers, including the back row, must wear a seat belt. Children under 6 travel in a TISI-standard child seat, and anyone below 135 cm uses a belt or a dedicated seat; the fine reaches ฿2,000. Parking against a red-and-white or yellow-and-white kerb is prohibited.

The agreement itself

Since 30 December 2025 a car rental agreement is a contract controlled by the OCPB: it is written in Thai, and every fee and penalty is disclosed inside it. Compulsory Por Ror Bor insurance covers injury to third parties and is attached to every registered car; first-class insurance covers damage to the car, and its terms and the excess are set out in the rental agreement. VAT 7% is already included in the prices you see. Traffic keeps to the left and every car on this page is right-hand drive, so the first hour out of Pattaya is a re-learning exercise rather than a drive.

How the car is delivered for a Pattaya to Hua Hin rental

Delivery is the part of a Pattaya to Hua Hin car rental that decides whether the trip starts at your door or at an airport counter. We bring the car to you — the address, the date and the time are agreed with a manager before the booking is fixed, so nothing about the hand-over is left to the morning of departure.

Where we deliver in Pattaya

  • Any address in Pattaya: hotel, condo or private house — the exact address is agreed with a manager when you book.
  • U-Tapao Airport (UTP): the closest airport, roughly 50 km from Walking Street, a 45-minute drive.
  • Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK): the main gateway, around 120 km by road from the city.
  • Don Mueang Airport (DMK): the low-cost terminal, with buses to Pattaya leaving from Level 1, platforms 4–5.
  • Elsewhere: arranged case by case and not promised on the site.

A delivery fee, if any, is agreed when booking.

Why delivery matters on a 321.1 km run

The drive to Hua Hin is 321.1 km by road — about 229 minutes behind the wheel with no long stops — so the day you leave is already long before you turn a wheel. Having the car parked outside your hotel at an agreed hour removes a whole block of the morning, and the hand-over itself is settled with the manager before you travel. An early start only works if the car is already waiting.

What to have ready

  • Passport: the main driver's, valid for the trip.
  • Home driving licence: plus an International Driving Permit under the 1949 Geneva Convention — ASEAN nationals drive on their national licence.
  • Bank card: in the main driver's name, used for the security hold; the amount is set out in the rental agreement.
  • Minimum age: 21; conditions for drivers under 25 and for premium classes are set out in the rental agreement.

Traffic keeps to the left and every car is right-hand drive, which is worth a few minutes of practice before you join Sukhumvit. Tell the manager your departure hour and luggage count when you book — swapping class later is easier than swapping at 5 a.m.

Insurance, fines and the rental agreement for a Pattaya to Hua Hin trip

Every car on this page carries compulsory motor insurance, known in Thailand as Por Ror Bor, and the paperwork for the 321.1 km run is settled before you turn a wheel.

What insurance comes with the car

  • Class 1 insurance: covers damage to the car itself; what it includes and the excess are set out in the agreement, not quoted here.

Fines and how they reach you

Speed limits on the run are 80 km/h in built-up areas, 90 km/h outside them and 120 km/h on Motorway 7, and the M7 limit is checked mainly by cameras. A camera fine is issued to the car owner — the company — and then re-invoiced to the driver, so a ticket that never reaches your hand still reaches your bill. Driving without a valid International Driving Permit carries a police fine of ฿500–1,000, and cover may be refused after an incident if the permit is missing. Alcohol rules are strict: the 20 mg/dl threshold applies to drivers under 20, holders of temporary licences, and drivers without a licence or with the wrong category, and refusing a breath test is treated as an admission. Set the cruise at the sign and forget it.

Documents and the agreement itself

Bring a passport, your home driving licence, an International Driving Permit under the 1949 Geneva Convention unless you hold an ASEAN national licence, and a bank card in the main driver's name for the security hold; the amount is set out in the agreement. The minimum driver age is 21, and conditions for drivers under 25 and for premium classes are also set out in the agreement. VAT 7% is included in every price shown. Traffic keeps to the left and all cars are right-hand drive — the first hour on the 321.1 km run is where that habit forms. The excess and the security hold are set out in the agreement, and a delivery fee, if any, is agreed when booking, before the car is handed over.
