Seat Ibiza at €26 a day for a week. Collected at Girona airport, stayed in Begur and explored the coves around Palafrugell. An easy car for the narrow village roads.

Peugeot 2008 for five days at €40 a day, €200 in total. A trip to Cadaqués and Cap de Creus, and the car handled the winding road perfectly.

Volkswagen Touran for our family of six at €80 a day. From Barcelona airport to Tossa de Mar, then day trips to Girona and Besalú. Spacious and spotless.

Fiat 500 for three days at €24 a day, €72 total. Great for Lloret de Mar, but the handover in Blanes started late because of traffic. The car itself was fine.

Renault Captur for a week at €40 a day. We stayed in L'Escala and drove to Roses and the medieval villages of Pals and Peratallada. A good car at a fair price.

Ford Mustang GT Convertible for two days at €350 a day. The coast road from Tossa de Mar with the roof down was unforgettable, and the car was perfect.

Toyota Yaris Hybrid for ten days at €30 a day. Very economical on the trips to Figueres and the Dalí museum. Friendly staff at Girona station.

Skoda Octavia at €42 a day for four days, €168 in total. Comfortable for Girona and Besalú, but the fuel level at pickup did not match the contract and it took a call to fix.

Mini Cooper Cabrio at €82 a day for three days, €246 total. Roof down along the coast from Palafrugell to Begur. The car was clean and exactly as in the photos.

Dacia Duster for a week at €40 a day. Our hiking base was in the Garrotxa, and we drove to Besalú and the volcano trails. Honest price and a quick handover.

Opel Corsa for four days at €26 a day, €104 in total. Collected at Girona airport and stayed in Platja d'Aro. Easy, cheap and no stress.

Kia Sportage at €55 a day for a week. Good for the family in Lloret de Mar, but the boot had some sand from the previous renter. The staff apologised and cleaned it on the spot.

Citroen C3 for five days at €25 a day, €125 in total. We stayed in Roses and drove to Cadaqués over the hills. A perfect small car.

Mercedes-Benz V-Class 250d for a group of seven at €230 a day. From Barcelona airport to Lloret de Mar and back at the end of the week. Very comfortable.

Toyota Corolla for three days at €42 a day, €126 total. A trip to the old town of Girona and to Figueres. Everything was explained clearly in Spanish and English.

Jeep Avenger for a week at €44 a day. Great for the roads of Cap de Creus and the coves near Cadaqués. The team told us the best time to go to avoid the crowds.

Volkswagen Polo at €26 a day for five days. A fine car, but the phone holder was missing and I had to buy one in Blanes. A minor thing.

Land Rover Defender 110 for two days at €370 a day, €740 in total. We took the back roads to Pals and Peratallada. A lovely car and a very careful handover.

Hyundai i10 for a week at €25 a day. Parking in Tossa de Mar is tight, and this little car fitted everywhere. Very good value.

BMW X1 for four days at €65 a day, €260 total. A business visit to Girona with a weekend in Begur afterwards. Clean car and a quick handover at Girona station.
