Rules for Suzuki car rental in Koh Samui and island roads
Thailand drives on the left, every car is right-hand drive, and a foreign visitor needs a home driving licence plus an International Driving Permit. Those three facts shape every Suzuki hire on the island, and it adds its own layer: a 51 km ring road, no motorways, and rain that arrives hard between October and December.

The ring road runs 51 km around the island and links the lowland and the coast, with Nathon, Lipa Noi, Lamai, Chaweng, Bophut and Maenam all sitting on it — two lanes, one each way, no central divider. The surface carries potholes, sometimes deep, standing water after heavy rain, and oil spots left by refuse trucks; animals wander onto the asphalt too. October to December is the wet window — November alone averages 444.6 mm of rain across 16.5 wet days — so allow more time for the same distance. Parking against a red-and-white or yellow-and-white kerb is fined; one local operator quotes ฿500 for it, though that figure is theirs, not the text of a law.

Fines and who pays them
Traffic-camera fines in Thailand are issued to the car owner, which is us, and re-invoiced to the renter. Since 30 December 2025 a car rental agreement is a contract controlled by the OCPB: it is written in Thai, and all fees and penalties are disclosed in it. The penalty section is set out in the rental agreement, so read it before you drive away, and keep the Thai copy with you in the car.
Is Suzuki car rental in Koh Samui better than a scooter
Anyone with luggage, a child, or a plan that includes Na Muang waterfall and the Lamai viewpoint is better off in a car, and the arithmetic behind that is less obvious than the daily rate suggests.

When the scooter still wins
