Our one standing rule on fuel is the full-to-full policy: the car is supplied with a full tank and returned with a full tank, otherwise the missing fuel and a refuelling service fee are charged as set out in the rental agreement. For an early call time — sunrise on the Cap de Creus road, for instance — book the evening before and have the car standing at the location at first light, ready to roll before the light goes flat.

Roads, speed limits and timing between locations

• Autopista and autovía (AP-7, A-2, C-32, C-33): 120 km/h for cars, motorcycles and motorhomes up to 3 500 kg — the fastest link between the southern and northern ends of the coast.
• Town streets: 30 km/h where there is one lane in each direction, 20 km/h on a single shared platform with the pavement, 50 km/h on streets with two or more lanes each way.
• Girona-Costa Brava Airport (GRO) to Lloret de Mar: 34.6 km, about 37 minutes, mostly on the C-63 and A-2.
• GRO to Roses: 75.2 km, about 63 minutes, with 41.8 km of that on the AP-7.

Fuel, tolls and parking on a shoot day

Petrol 95 E5 averages 1.94 €/l across the province of Girona and 1.956 €/l on the coast; diesel sits at 1.922 €/l province-wide and 1.932 €/l on the coast, with 250 filling stations in the province and 58 along the coast. The AP-7 corridor from Barcelona through Girona to the French border has been toll-free since 01.09.2021, and the C-32 Maresme and C-33 are free as well — the toll barriers came down on the night of 31 August to 1 September 2021. Paid roads that remain are the C-16 and the southern C-32 towards Castelldefels, Sitges and El Vendrell, with the Vallcarca barrier at 8.42 € and Cubelles at 5.03 € for category 2; neither sits on a Costa Brava route. In Girona, zona blava runs Monday to Saturday in working hours, 9:30–13:00 and 16:00–20:00, at 1.20 €/h with a two-hour maximum (2.40 €), while zona verda charges the same 1.20 €/h with the same two-hour cap.

ZBE Girona and the cars we hand over

The Zona de baixes emissions (ZBE) de Girona has been in force since 15.09.2025, covering the area from la Devesa park to c. d'Emili Grahit and from c. del Riu Güell to c. del Carme and Barri Vell, and it runs 7:00–20:00, Monday to Friday, on working days. Cars without a DGT environmental badge that are not registered in Girona are restricted, with 24 days a year allowed inside the zone during restricted hours without a permit; cameras read plates, so no sticker has to be displayed. Foreign plates can get a temporary authorisation if the vehicle meets the technical and environmental requirements. Our Spanish fleet carries the DGT badge, so a shoot car booked through Rent-Trip faces no restriction in the zone.

Winter tyres and mountain roads

Winter tyres are not a seasonal legal requirement in Spain; restrictions appear only when snow affects driving, posted road by road on signs and variable message boards. If a production wants a mountain backdrop in the colder months, ask the manager when the booking is agreed whether chains or winter tyres are being required on that road on that date.

• Quiet November–February: the coast empties, rates stay the same, and light is short — plan the shooting day around it.

Working around the summer crowds

The practical constraint in high season is not the car, it is the road. Cap de Creus, at the tip of the peninsula, runs access restrictions on the Cadaqués — Far de Cap de Creus road through the warm months, with timed windows on set days in spring and autumn and daily 9:30–21:30 from July to 13 September.

Booking the car for the day before the shoot helps. The car arrives clean with a full tank, and it goes back full — full-to-full, lleno-lleno — so a spare afternoon removes both the delivery timing risk and the last-minute refuel from the shooting day itself.
