Our Pattaya minivan fleet has eight cars in two seat counts: six 7-seat MPVs and two 12-seat vans. The split matters more than the badge on the bonnet. A family of seven with four suitcases and a pushchair needs a different body from seven adults with hand luggage, and the daily rate does not always point at the right one.

We rent out six 7-seat MPVs — Mitsubishi Xpander, Suzuki XL7, Toyota Veloz, Toyota Innova Crysta, Maxus MIFA 9 and Toyota Alphard. The first three share one profile: 1.5 L petrol, front-wheel drive, automatic, ฿1,290 per day. The Innova Crysta steps up to a 2.8 L diesel with rear-wheel drive at ฿1,590, and the Alphard sits at the top of the range at ฿6,420 with a 2.5 L petrol engine. The MIFA 9 is the only electric car in the class, at ฿4,280, and it charges rather than refuels.

12-seat vans for larger groups

Two 12-seat vans — Hyundai H-1 and Toyota Commuter — cover groups that a 7-seater cannot. Both run a 2.5–2.8 L diesel through an automatic gearbox with rear-wheel drive, and both are priced at ฿4,280 per day. That body is a van, not an MPV: a van body, rear-wheel drive and diesel. A group of ten or eleven should look here first and not at two smaller cars.

Our minivan rates are built on one daily figure per car, and longer bookings follow two multipliers: weekly is daily x 6, monthly is daily x 21. Nothing else changes the arithmetic, so you can work out the cost of any date range before you speak to a manager.

Prices start at ฿1,290 and top out at ฿6,420 per day, so a week runs from ฿7,740 and a month from ฿27,090. The three cheapest cars — Mitsubishi Xpander, Suzuki XL7 and Toyota Veloz — sit at the bottom of that band, Toyota Innova Crysta at ฿1,590, Hyundai H-1, Maxus MIFA 9 and Toyota Commuter at ฿4,280, and Toyota Alphard at ฿6,420. The longer rate is lower per day than the daily one. If your dates are fixed, price the whole stay in one booking rather than extending week by week.

Fuel and what a tank costs

Diesel B7 was ฿41.44 a litre and gasohol 95 ฿39.94 on 24 September 2026, with gasohol 91 at ฿39.57, E20 at ฿34.94, E85 at ฿30.88, diesel B20 at ฿36.44, premium 98 at ฿49.29 and premium diesel at ฿50.05. Those are Bangchak retail figures without the Bangkok provincial tax, so Chonburi pumps may differ by a few satang. We hand the car over clean with a full tank, so the first refill is the one that tells you what your own week actually costs.

Documents, licence and deposit for minivans car rental in Pattaya

The deposit is handled with a bank card in the main driver's name, and the minimum age is 21. Everything else about the hold, the excess and the agreement is confirmed when booking.

Licence and International Driving Permit

A foreign visitor needs a home driving licence plus an International Driving Permit issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention. Citizens of ASEAN countries drive on their national licence, with no permit and no conversion. Thailand recognises the 1949-style permit alongside the national licence it accompanies, so the two travel together or not at all. The police fine for driving without the pair runs ฿500–1,000, and an insurer may refuse a claim after an incident. If your home licence carries no Latin script, sort the permit out before you fly.

Minimum age and the security hold

The minimum driver age is 21, and a bank card in the main driver's name is used for the security hold. The amount of that hold is not fixed here — it is set out in the rental agreement, and the same document carries the excess and the conditions for drivers under 25. Cards in a partner's or a parent's name do not stand in for the main driver's own. Ask the manager to read the hold figure out before the booking is fixed, so the number on your statement is never a surprise.

Insurance and what the agreement covers

• Por Ror Bor: compulsory motor insurance attached to every registered car, covering injury to third parties; it is not optional and it is not bought separately.
• Class 1 insurance: covers damage to the car itself; its terms and the excess are set out in the rental agreement, not quoted on this page.
• The agreement: since 30 December 2025 a car rental contract in Thailand is controlled by the OCPB, written in Thai, with all fees and penalties disclosed inside it.
• Traffic-camera fines: issued to the car owner and re-invoiced to the renter, so a camera flash on Motorway 7 reaches you through us rather than the post.
• Documents to bring: passport, home driving licence, International Driving Permit unless you hold an ASEAN licence, and a bank card in the main driver's name.

Traffic here keeps to the left and every car in our fleet is right-hand drive, which is worth remembering on the first kilometre rather than the first junction. The rest — the hold, the excess, the young-driver conditions — is agreed when booking.

What happens when the car arrives

Every minivan is handed over clean with a full tank, so you start the trip without hunting for a station first. Documents are straightforward: passport, home driving licence, an International Driving Permit unless you hold an ASEAN national licence, and a bank card in the main driver's name for the security hold. Timing your hand-over around Pattaya traffic

Beach Road and Second Road run one-way anticlockwise. If your flight lands late, ask the manager to set the delivery for the following morning instead — a tired first drive on the left, in a right-hand-drive van, is the wrong way to start a holiday. Our own preference is a daylight hand-over: you see the vehicle properly and the first run out of the city is calmer.

Driving a rental minivan around Pattaya and further afield

A rental minivan drives on the left with the wheel on the right, and the city itself is small: Beach Road and Second Road run one way anticlockwise as a pair, so a loop through the centre is quicker than any attempt to turn back. In built-up areas the limit is 80 km/h, outside them 90 km/h, and Motorway 7 allows 120 km/h — enforced primarily by speed cameras, with fines issued to the car owner and re-invoiced to the renter. The practical consequence of the one-way pair is that a missed turn costs a full circuit, not a U-turn.

Leaving the city on Motorway 7

• Motorway 7: the Bangkok–Chonburi–Pattaya motorway, 125.9 km from Bangkok to Pattaya, eight lanes, 120 km/h, continuing south to Map Ta Phut.
• Pattaya Motorway Spur: leave at Mab Prachan Interchange, follow road 3240 through Nong Prue, then join Sukhumvit at Pattaya Interchange.
• Southern exit: the Ban Amphoe spur drops you towards Na Jomtien instead of the centre.
• Tolls: 25 ฿ at Lat Krabang up to 105 ฿ at Pong; the whole Bangkok–Pattaya run is 105–130 ฿, cash on the left-hand booths or M-PASS and Easy Pass on the blue ones.
• Free alternative: Hwy 34 Bang Na–Trat, then the Chonburi bypass and Hwy 3 Sukhumvit through Bang Saen and Bang Phra.

Day trips that fit a 7-seater

The 7-seat MPVs from ฿1,290 a day are the natural choice for the short runs: Nong Nooch and Khao Chi Chan at 24.4 km and 23.3 km, Khao Kheow Open Zoo at 46.9 km, Columbia Aquaverse at 22.3 km, Silverlake and the Ramayana water park around 26 km. Bang Saen and Si Racha sit at 47.6 km and 28.3 km, and a 12-seat van earns its ฿4,280 on the school-run shape of a group that will not split up.

Parking and where the rules bite

Red-and-white and yellow-and-white kerbs mean no stopping. During Songkran, Wan Lai Pattaya runs longer than the national 13–15 April holiday and closes roads through the centre, so plan any airport run around it. We agree the delivery address, the date and the time with a manager before the booking is fixed, and the conditions of use are set out in the rental agreement.

Islands, ferries and what a rental minivan cannot do

The Gulf of Thailand puts several islands within reach of a self-drive minivan, but the last stretch of water is where the vehicle stops. Passenger ferries carry people, not cars — so any island trip is planned as a day out, with the minivan parked on the mainland side and seats booked on a boat.

Koh Larn and the Bali Hai crossing

Koh Larn sits 7.5 km off the Pattaya shore, and the crossing is passenger-only, so the minivan stays parked at the Bali Hai pier end of Walking Street while you travel over on foot. Boats run through the day and the trip takes under an hour each way, which makes it an easy morning out rather than an overnight one. The same applies to Koh Samet further down the coast; the Koh Chang ferries do take cars, and taking a rental car across is agreed when booking.

Where the minivan earns its keep on land

• Nong Nooch and Khao Chi Chan: 24.4 km and 23.3 km from the centre, roughly 26 and 20 minutes by road, both on the same southern run.
• Khao Kheow Open Zoo: 46.9 km out, about 44 minutes, and far easier with your own vehicle than with a shared ride.
• Bang Saen and Si Racha: 47.6 km and 28.3 km along the coast road, a half-day loop that suits a 7-seater.
• Koh Samet and Koh Chang: 79.6 km to Ban Phe Pier, where the Koh Samet crossing is on foot; 245.1 km to the Koh Chang car ferry pier.

What the agreement does not allow

Driving on sand, beaches and jungle tracks is prohibited by the rental agreement, so a minivan is a road vehicle only. Taking a car onto a ferry — possible only on the Koh Chang crossing — is agreed when booking. If your plans include a boat crossing, tell the manager at booking — the delivery address and dates are agreed together, and it is easier to plan a mainland base for those days than to rearrange later.

Child seats and the law in Thailand

Children under 6 must ride in a child seat built to the TISI standard, and anyone shorter than 135 cm needs a seat or a belt that fits them. The rule comes from the 13th amendment to the Land Traffic Act 1979, published in the Royal Gazette in May 2022 and applied since 17 August 2023; it covers cars, pickups and minivans, with a fine of up to ฿2,000. Without a seat, the law allows a child in the rear, on a lap belt, keeping to the left lane at low speed — and in a pickup, never in the cargo bed. Seat belts are compulsory for every passenger, including the third row, so a 7-seat MPV carrying five adults and two children still needs seven working belts.

What to check before a 12-seat van

The Hyundai H-1 and the Toyota Commuter are van bodies with 12 seats, rear-wheel drive and diesel engines, and both sit at ฿4,280 per day. If you are collecting from U-Tapao Airport (UTP), the drive to central Pattaya runs about 62 minutes without traffic, so children arrive before the first nap is over.
