Hilux Revo or D-Max — picking between the two families

Toyota gives you the Hilux Revo Double Cab at ฿1,500 and the Rocco 4x4 at ฿1,900, while Isuzu offers the Hi-Lander at ฿1,400 and the V-Cross 4x4 at ฿1,800. Both families appear twice in the fleet, and in both cases the 4x4 version costs more than the rear-wheel-drive one — ฿400 more for the Toyota pair, ฿400 for the Isuzu pair. The V-Cross is the only pickup here with a 3.0 L engine, which is why it holds 190 hp despite sitting ฿100 below the Wildtrak.

So the badge is not the deciding factor. Isuzu saves you ฿100 at the entry point, Toyota charges ฿100 more for its 4x4 than Isuzu does for its own, and the real question is whether your itinerary needs four driven wheels at all. In our experience most bookings on this fleet are the 4x2 trucks — six of the nine — and the 4x4s go to travellers heading for wet-season roads or steep descents.

If your route stays on asphalt, the saving is real: the ฿1,500 rear-wheel group is the middle of the ladder, with the same 2.4 L engine as the Triton and the Hilux Revo Double Cab. We hand each truck over clean with a full tank, and island mileage is unlimited.

Toyota Hilux or Isuzu D-Max — two families, four prices

The Isuzu entry point is ฿100 cheaper, and its 4x4 version undercuts the Rocco by the same margin — but the V-Cross carries a 3.0 L engine at 190 hp against the Rocco's 2.8 L at 204 hp.

The cheaper half of each pair sits ฿100 apart — ฿1,400 against ฿1,500 — and the dearer half repeats the trick, ฿1,800 against ฿1,900.

What separates them is not the badge but what sits under the bonnet. The 1.9 L unit in the Hi-Lander and the 2.4 L in the Double Cab both make 150 hp, so the smaller engine gives nothing away in output and asks ฿100 less for the day. Move up to four driven wheels and the gap narrows to a rounding error: 190 hp from 3.0 L on one side, 204 hp from 2.8 L on the other, ฿100 between them. Among the bookings we take across the island, the two-wheel-drive versions of both families are chosen at almost the same rate — the name on the grille is doing less work than most renters expect.

Daily, weekly and monthly rates

Nine pickups sit in that ฿1,300–฿1,900 band, and the spread follows engine size, power and drivetrain rather than age. A week is charged as six daily rates, so seven days on the cheapest MG Extender costs ฿7,800 instead of ฿9,100. A month is twenty-one daily rates: ฿27,300 at the bottom of the range, ฿39,900 for the Wildtrak or the Rocco 4x4 at ฿1,900. The longer the booking, the lower the cost per day — that is the whole point of the weekly and monthly tiers, and it is why a three-week stay is worth pricing as a month. In our experience travellers who start with a day rate and extend on the ground end up paying more per day than if they had booked the longer tier from the outset. The vehicle is available from one day, so a single-day booking carries no penalty and no minimum-week trap.

What the price includes and what the agreement covers

• VAT 7%: included in every rate shown, from ฿1,300 a day up to ฿1,900, so the quote is the total.
• Mileage: unlimited on the island — no per-kilometre charge however far you drive between beaches and viewpoints.
• Handover condition: the pickup arrives clean with a full tank of diesel, and you return it the same way.
• Security hold: a bank card in the main driver's name is used for it; the amount is set out in the rental agreement.
• Insurance: compulsory Por Ror Bor is attached to every registered car, and Class 1 cover terms and any excess are set out in the rental agreement.
• Delivery: free across the island and to Phuket Airport, agreed when you book.

Age matters more than the model here: the minimum driver age is 21, and conditions for drivers under 25 are set out in the rental agreement rather than in a flat fee. Ask about that before you pick a 4x4 — the nine models span ฿1,300 to ฿1,900 a day, and the 4x4 versions, the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross, the Ford Ranger Wildtrak and the Toyota Hilux Revo Rocco, sit at the top of that range with a low-range gearbox you may never engage on asphalt.

The multiplier is what makes long bookings worth it. A week is not seven daily charges but six, and a month is twenty-one — so the longer the period, the lower the effective price per day, rather than simply adding up nights. On a ฿1,500 model that is the difference between ฿10,500 and ฿9,000 for the same seven days. Mileage on the island is unlimited, and the car is available from one day, so a short break and a full season sit on the same scale.

What the price covers, and what the agreement sets out

The rate includes VAT 7% and unlimited mileage on the island, and the car is handed over clean with a full tank. Beyond that, the money side of a booking is fixed in the rental agreement rather than on this page: the security hold taken on a bank card in the main driver's name, the insurance excess, and any fees or penalties are all written into that document, which since 30 December 2025 is an OCPB-controlled contract disclosed in Thai.
