Rates on this page run from $35 to $69 a day, and the whole spread comes down to one step between classes: the Cooper sits in Economy, everything else sits a class above. Longer bookings follow the same two numbers — a week is charged as six days, a month as twenty-one.

TBS sits 17 km south-east of the centre — 17 km by road — and handled 4,750,830 passengers in 2024 and more than 5.4 million in 2025, up 13.7%, so arrivals there are busy and a pre-agreed slot matters. KUT is 14 km west of Kutaisi and 241 km from Tbilisi by road, which makes it the natural hand-over point for a western loop rather than a city stay. Delivery outside the city and these two airports is arranged case by case and is not promised on the site — ask the manager before you build a plan around it.

If your licence carries neither Latin nor Cyrillic characters, bring an International Driving Permit or a notarised translation: Georgia is a party to the 1968 Vienna Convention, and keep the licence with you.

Which licence you need

• Foreign licence: valid in Georgia for up to 1 year from your date of entry, with no exchange required.
• IDP or notarised translation: required only when your licence has neither Latin nor Cyrillic characters; Georgia recognises the 1968 Vienna Convention.
• Age and driving experience: the minimum age and the minimum length of holding a licence are agreed when booking, and the terms are set out in the rental agreement.

What the rental agreement sets out

The deposit, the insurance excess, delivery fees and any discount are not fixed figures on this page — they are set out in the rental agreement, and we confirm them with you before the booking is fixed. The same document carries the fuel rule: the car is supplied with a full tank and must be returned with a full tank (full-to-full), otherwise the missing fuel and a refuelling service fee are charged as set out in that agreement. No other fuel option — a pre-paid tank or full-to-empty — is offered. Third-party liability cover for cars on Georgian plates is not compulsory for owners: the government put its introduction into the autumn legislative work plan, with no date named, so treat any insurance beyond the basic cover as something to confirm with the manager rather than assume. Full insurance of the car, the driver and the passengers (CDW or Super CDW) is available as an option, but standard cover does not extend to theft of personal belongings left in the car.

Speed limits and local rules

• Built-up areas: 60 km/h, and 20 km/h in residential zones under Article 33, paragraph 6 of the traffic law.
• Outside built-up areas: 90 km/h for category B, 110 km/h on motorways, 80 km/h with a light trailer — Article 33, paragraph 7 b.
• Seat belts: required for the driver and all front passengers; rear belts are not compulsory by law — Article 21, paragraph 9.
• Phones: hands-free or speaker only, both hands on the wheel — Article 21.
• Children under 3: in a child seat or restraint on the rear seat sized to height and weight; on the lap of a passenger aged 16 or over is also allowed in the back — Article 26, paragraphs 7–8.
• Children under 6: never left alone in a parked car — Article 26, paragraph 9.
• Alcohol: 0.3 ‰ (0.03 %) is the limit — treat it as zero and drink after you park.

Fines are modest but they add up. Speeding by 15–40 km/h costs 50 lari, over 40 km/h costs 150, a phone call 30, an unfastened belt 40, running a light 50, an unpaid parking session 50, driving without a licence 500. Pay within 10 days and there is a 20 % discount; collect 100 points in a year and the licence goes.

Parking in the city

Street parking is zonal: from 1 lari an hour, with the first 15 minutes free. Pay through the Tbilisi Parking app, at parking meters or on parking.tbilisi.gov.ge. A note on that portal says the procedure for buying permits and paying fines is changing under a mayoral order of 19.08.2026, so check the app before you leave the car. Leaving a session unpaid brings a 50 lari fine, and collection adds 150 lari plus 20 lari a day for storage. Underground car parks in the centre are the simpler option: Freedom Square runs around 2–3 lari an hour, Rike about 7 lari a day, Orbeliani Square 1–2 lari an hour, and Galleria Tbilisi roughly 2 lari for the first hour. Annual permits at 50 lari and the all-inclusive pass at 800 lari are not worth it for a short stay.

Petrol is 4.06 lari a litre and diesel 4.76 — diesel runs about 17 % dearer. Georgia's international and domestic roads are free of charge, with no vignettes and no transponders; the Road Department confirmed on 10.06.2026 that this stays unchanged. The Rikoti section of the E60 between east and west, opened on 29.12.2025 at a cost of about 2.6 billion lari, is also free: 52 km with 51 tunnels and 97 bridges.

Day routes that fit a Mini

Mountain roads and the winter rule

The S3 Military Highway runs 139 km from Mtskheta to the Russian border at Stepantsminda, passing Zhinvali, Ananuri, Pasanauri and Gudauri, with the Jvari Pass at 2,379 m as its highest point. Upper sections see landslides and snow, and the pass closes during avalanche risk. Winter tyres are compulsory from 1 December to 1 March, and in government-designated zones under special weather conditions you need chains on at least two front wheels. Gudauri sits at 2,200 m by the pass, usually 2–2.5 hours from the start of the route, with the ski season running from early December to mid-April.
