Car rental in Toronto
One step above the C$ 38 a day you would pay for a Mitsubishi Mirage sits the whole of our Toronto fleet: 165 cars across 15 classes, from Economy hatchbacks to a Ferrari F8 Tributo at C$ 2,599 a day.
What a car rental in Toronto from Rent-Trip includes
How delivery works
Rent-Trip brings the car to any address in Toronto and to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) and John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM). Delivery outside those places is arranged case by case and is not promised on the site.
Fuel, cleanliness and what you get at hand-over
The car comes clean with a full tank and must be returned with a full tank. That is the whole fuel rule: we supply it full, you bring it back full. No other fuel option — a pre-paid tank or full-to-empty — is offered on the site. If the tank is short on return, the missing fuel and a refuelling service fee are charged as set out in the rental agreement.
What the booking covers and what is agreed when booking
- Delivery: to any address in Toronto and to YYZ, YTZ and YHM, with the address, date and time confirmed by a manager before the booking is fixed.
- Fuel: full-to-full, with the missing fuel and a refuelling service fee set out in the rental agreement if the tank comes back short.
A weekly rental is charged at the daily rate × 6 and a monthly rental at the daily rate × 21, which is why weekly rates start at C$ 228 and monthly at C$ 798.
Choosing a car rental in Toronto by class and seats
Our 165 cars for a car rental in Toronto are split into 15 classes and six seat counts, so the choice comes down to two questions: how many people travel and what the trip needs.
| Class | Cars | From per day |
|---|---|---|
| Economy | 8 | C$ 38 |
| Crossover | 15 | C$ 49 |
| SUV | 31 | C$ 58 |
| Premium | 27 | C$ 59 |
| Sedan | 9 | C$ 62 |
| Comfort | 10 | C$ 68 |
| Minivans | 6 | C$ 68 |
| Commercial | 2 | C$ 85 |
| Sports | 15 | C$ 116 |
| Pickup trucks | 4 | C$ 116 |
| Convertibles | 9 | C$ 169 |
| Passenger vans | 1 | C$ 182 |
| Luxury | 9 | C$ 275 |
| Exotic | 14 | C$ 1,499 |
The class «from» price is the entry point of that class, not its ceiling — Premium starts at C$ 59 and runs to C$ 363, while the SUV class opens at C$ 58 and reaches C$ 322. The cheapest car on this page is the Mitsubishi Mirage at C$ 38 a day, the most expensive is the Ferrari F8 Tributo at C$ 2,599.
Seats and fuel for a car rental in Toronto trip
A 7-seat SUV such as the Acura MDX at C$ 64 a day covers a family trip, and the 8-seat Honda Pilot at C$ 68 takes a larger group without moving into van territory — the 12-seat Ford Transit Passenger Van sits at C$ 182. The five electric cars start at C$ 74 with the Ford Mustang Mach-E, and the hybrid line includes the Toyota Camry sedan at C$ 62 and the Toyota Sienna minivan at C$ 107.
Weekly and monthly car rental in Toronto
A weekly or monthly car rental in Toronto follows one simple rule at Rent-Trip: a week is charged at the daily rate × 6 and a month at the daily rate × 21, so weekly rates start at C$ 228 and monthly rates start at C$ 798.
How longer bookings are counted for a car rental in Toronto
A weekly rental is charged at the daily rate × 6 and a monthly rental at the daily rate × 21, so weekly rates start at C$ 228 and monthly at C$ 798. Because the multiplier is fixed, the cheapest class stays the cheapest over a long stay — an Economy car at C$ 38 a day is the lowest monthly figure on the page, and an Exotic car at C$ 1,499 a day scales by the same × 21 rather than by a separate long-stay tariff. That matters when you compare a two-week stay against a single weekend: the ratio between classes never shifts, only the number of days does.
Deposit, excess and driver terms agreed when booking
- Deposit and insurance excess: the deposit amount and the insurance excess are set out in the rental agreement, not fixed on this page.
- Delivery fees and discounts: any delivery fee and any discount for a longer booking are set out in the rental agreement.
- Minimum age and young-driver surcharge: the minimum rental age and the young-driver surcharge are agreed when booking.
- Licence and insurance documents: the driver must carry insurance for the car and the original or an exact copy of the ownership permit, as Ontario requires.
What a month of car rental in Toronto changes in practice
Over a month the arithmetic of class choice flips. Petrol sits at about C$ 1.75 a litre in October 2026, and with 153 of our 165 cars running on petrol, fuel is a real line in a long stay; the 7 hybrids and 5 electrics are the alternative if you would rather plan charging than filling. Winter tyres are not compulsory in Ontario, though Quebec requires them from 1 December to 15 March for Quebec-registered cars, rental ones included, with a C$ 200–300 fine — a rule that does not touch a car plated elsewhere. If a month-long booking may cross into the United States, ask about written permission when booking: most cars taken in Canada can go, but the permission comes from the rental point and exotic classes and large vans are restricted.
Documents for a car rental in Toronto and driving rules
Ontario sets the rules a visitor drives under, and they turn on how long you stay — not on what you drive.
Licence rules for a car rental in Toronto
A visitor to Ontario for less than 3 months can drive on a valid licence from their own province, state or country. If you will be visiting from another country for more than 3 months, you will need an International Driver's Permit (IDP) from your own country — and it has to be issued there, because you cannot get one in Canada. Ontario also requires the driver to carry insurance for the car and to keep the original or an exact copy of the ownership permit in the vehicle; the legal minimum age to drive is 16. If your stay is close to the three-month line, sort the IDP before you fly — replacing one from Ontario is not an option.
Alcohol, speed and the numbers behind them
- Alcohol: from 0.08 (80 mg per 100 ml of blood) it is a criminal matter; the 0.05–0.079 «warn range» brings an immediate 7-day licence suspension, an 8-hour course and a fine for a first occurrence.
- Novice drivers: drivers 21 and under, and holders of G1 or G2 licences, are held to zero alcohol.
- Highway speed: on selected sections of provincial highways, mostly the 400-series, the limit has been raised from 100 km/h to 110 km/h; elsewhere the posted signs apply.
- Read the signs, not the habit: the posted limit is what counts, and it changes with the stretch of road.
Winter tyres, tolls and crossing the border
Winter tyres are not compulsory in Ontario. In Quebec they are mandatory from 1 December to 15 March for cars registered there, rental cars included, with a fine for non-compliance — and a car plated in another province is not caught by that rule, so a Toronto-registered rental driven into Quebec is outside it. Highway 407 ETR is the toll road to know: it has no booths, light-vehicle rates run from 49.93¢ to 119.21¢ per km depending on zone and time of entry, there is a C$1 trip toll charge, and without a transponder the camera charge is C$5.30 per trip plus a C$5 monthly account fee. Taking a car into the United States is possible for most vehicles rented in Canada, but only with the permission of the rental location, which restricts some classes such as exotic cars and large vans; without written permission the trip breaks the agreement and the insurance, and a passport is required at the border.
A car rental in Toronto for airport arrivals
We deliver the car to any address in Toronto and to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) and John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM).
What an airport hand-over means in practice
- Pearson (YYZ): the largest of the three, with 47,300,000 passengers recorded in 2025 and 36.0 km by road from the city centre, about 38 minutes outside rush hour.
- Billy Bishop (YTZ): the downtown-city airport, 6.0 km by road and roughly 12 minutes from the core, with 1,700,000 passengers in 2025.
- Hamilton (YHM): John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport, 86.7 km by road and about 73 minutes away, with 329,595 passengers in 2025.
Matching the car to the arrival
For a winter landing, note that winter tyres are not mandatory in Ontario — the rule applies to vehicles registered in Quebec between 1 December and 15 March, with a fine for non-compliance, and cars on plates from other provinces are not covered by it. Ask about the tyre set when you book if you plan to drive north.
Fuel, tolls and the drive into the city
Regular petrol stood at about C$ 1.75 a litre in October 2026, diesel at C$ 2.61. On the road, Highway 407 ETR is the tolled, cashless route: for 2026 light vehicles pay from 49.93¢ to 119.21¢ per km depending on zone and entry time, plus a C$ 1 trip toll charge, and without a transponder a camera charge of C$ 5.30 per trip and C$ 5 a month account fee.
After the airport
Pearson sits 19.5 km in a straight line from the centre but 36.0 km by road, so the last stretch is longer than the map suggests.
Driving a car rental in Toronto on local roads
Speed limits are posted in kilometres per hour: on selected sections of provincial highways, mostly the 400-series, the limit has been raised permanently from 100 km/h to 110 km/h, and everywhere else the posted sign applies.
Drivers aged 21 and under, and holders of G1 or G2 licences, are at zero.
- Winter tyres: not compulsory in Ontario, so a car on all-seasons is legal here all winter — the Quebec rule (1 December to 15 March, C$ 200–300 fine) applies only to Quebec-registered vehicles, including hire cars plated there.
- Highway 407 ETR: a cashless toll road; light-vehicle rates for 2026 run from 49.93¢ to 119.21¢ per km by zone and time of entry, plus a C$ 1 trip toll charge, and without a transponder a camera charge of C$ 5.30 per trip and a C$ 5 monthly account fee.
- Fuel: regular petrol sat at about C$ 1.75 a litre in October 2026, diesel at C$ 2.61 — the tank is full at hand-over and must come back full.
Who pays tolls, road charges and penalty notices is not fixed on this page — it is agreed when booking, together with the deposit and insurance excess set out in the rental agreement.
Car rental in Toronto for the trips you have in mind
The right class depends on the trip, not on the budget alone.
A weekend in the city and along the lake
Four adults, a day out of the city: the Toyota Corolla Cross at C$ 61 a day seats five with a 2.0 L engine and front-wheel drive.
Family and group trips
- Seven travelling: the Acura MDX at C$ 64 a day is the entry point of the 7-seat group, and the Mitsubishi Outlander at C$ 75 is the next alternative.
- Twelve: the Ford Transit Passenger Van at C$ 182 a day is the only 12-seat vehicle on the page.
Business, winter and long-distance drives
- A client meeting: the Toyota Camry at C$ 62 a day is a hybrid sedan, and the BMW 3 Series at C$ 74 adds all-wheel drive for a winter week.
- A month of commuting: the Kia Forte or Nissan Sentra in Comfort at C$ 70–71 a day keeps the monthly multiplier predictable at daily × 21.
Comparing car rental in Toronto classes side by side
Two classes can start C$ 1 apart and drive nothing alike.
What separates the entry models
| Class | Entry model | Engine and drive | Seats | From per day |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Economy | Mitsubishi Mirage | 1.2 L, front-wheel | 5 | C$ 38 |
| Crossover | Buick Encore | 1.2 L, front-wheel | 5 | C$ 49 |
| SUV | Volkswagen Tiguan | 2.0 L, all-wheel | 5 | C$ 58 |
| Premium | Acura RDX | 2.0 L, all-wheel, 272 hp | 5 | C$ 59 |
| Comfort | Volkswagen Jetta | 1.5 L, front-wheel | 5 | C$ 68 |
| Minivans | Honda Odyssey | 3.5 L, front-wheel | 8 | C$ 68 |
Automatic, petrol and the one manual car
164 of our 165 cars are automatic and one is manual; 153 run on petrol, 7 are hybrid and 5 are electric. Fuel is the more useful split — the hybrid line covers the Toyota Camry sedan at C$ 62, the Toyota Prius at C$ 79 and the Toyota Sienna minivan at C$ 107, while the electric group starts at C$ 74 with the Ford Mustang Mach-E and runs to the Porsche Taycan at C$ 600.
What to check in the rental agreement before you drive
- Deposit: the sum is written into the contract you sign, and no number for it appears here.
- Insurance excess: the amount you carry yourself in a claim is written into the contract — read that line before the keys change hands, not after.
The same holds for who settles road charges, tolls and penalty notices: agree it when booking, and on Highway 407 ETR that is worth settling in advance, since light-vehicle rates for 2026 run from 49.93¢ to 119.21¢ per km plus a C$ 1 trip toll charge.
Documents to have with you
Ontario asks the person at the wheel to hold insurance covering the vehicle and to keep the ownership permit — the original or an exact copy — inside it. A visitor staying less than 3 months may drive on a valid licence issued by their own province, state or country; anyone arriving from another country for more than 3 months needs an International Driver's Permit obtained at home, and it cannot be issued in Canada. The legal minimum driving age is 16.
Delivery and return of a car rental in Toronto
Setting the delivery slot
Give the manager your landing time rather than the time you expect to clear the terminal — Pearson sits 36.0 km by road from the centre, about 38 minutes outside rush hour, and a hand-over planned around the flight absorbs a delay better than one planned around optimism.
Long-stay car rental in Toronto for a month or more
A month changes which class makes sense.
What a long booking rewards
- Comfort over the entry price: the gap between an Economy car at C$ 38 and a Comfort sedan at C$ 68 is C$ 30 a day, which over 21 charged days is the difference between two very different months on the road.
- Hybrid over petrol: with 153 of 165 cars on petrol and regular at about C$ 1.75 a litre, the 7 hybrids — Camry, Prius, Sienna among them — are the line to look at if the month includes daily driving.
- All-wheel drive for the season: winter tyres are not compulsory in Ontario, so an all-wheel-drive SUV such as the Tiguan at C$ 58 is the practical answer for a winter month rather than a tyre swap.
If the month may cross into the United States, raise it when booking: most cars taken in Canada may travel there, but only with the permission of the rental location, and exotic classes and large vans are usually excluded. Without written permission the trip breaks the agreement and the insurance.
Common mistakes with a car rental in Toronto
Four assumptions worth checking
- Assuming the tank can come back empty: the rule is full-to-full, and no pre-paid tank or full-to-empty option is offered on the site.
- Assuming winter tyres are the law here: they are not compulsory in Ontario; the Quebec rule from 1 December to 15 March with a fine for non-compliance applies to Quebec-registered cars, rental ones included, not to a car plated elsewhere.
- Assuming the toll road is free to use: Highway 407 ETR is cashless, light vehicles pay from 49.93¢ to 119.21¢ per km by zone and entry time, plus a C$ 1 trip toll charge, and without a transponder there is a camera charge of C$ 5.30 per trip and a C$ 5 monthly account fee.
- Assuming the licence question is about the car: it is about the stay — under 3 months a valid licence from home is enough, over 3 months from another country an IDP issued at home is required.
The fifth mistake is quieter: booking a class for the photograph rather than the trip.
