The ฿1,400 gap between Captiva and X-Trail buys engine size, not seats or drivetrain — both are 7-seat cars, so decide on the road you will actually drive. The same multipliers apply right up the range: a Fortuner 2.8 4x4 at ฿2,750 per day becomes ฿16,500 for a week and ฿57,750 for a month.

How we deliver your 4x4 rental car in Bangkok

The car arrives where you are, and the hand-over is arranged around your arrival. We bring every SUV and 4x4 to any address in the city and to Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) and Don Mueang Airport (DMK).

What we need from you to set the delivery up

• Address: the hotel, apartment or terminal where you want the car handed over, with the building name as it appears on the map.
• Date and time: your arrival slot, allowing for the drive from Suvarnabhumi (about 25 km from downtown) or Don Mueang (27.4 km by road from Democracy Monument).
• Flight or train number: so the hand-over can move if your arrival slips — Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal and the two airports all run on their own clocks.
• Contact number: a number that works on the day, since the manager confirms the meeting point with you directly.

How the hand-over works in practice

The car comes clean and with a full tank, and hire is available from one day. Every SUV on this page is automatic, so there is no clutch to think about in stop-start traffic.

Documents are straightforward: passport, your home driving licence, and an International Driving Permit under the 1949 Geneva Convention unless you hold an ASEAN licence. The police fine for driving without the permit is ฿500–1,000, and an insurer may refuse a claim. A bank card in the main driver's name is used for the security hold; the amount is set out in the rental agreement. The minimum driver age is 21, and conditions for drivers under 25 are also set out in the agreement.

Taking the car further than the city

Motorway 7 runs from the capital past Suvarnabhumi towards Pattaya, 125.865 km of it, with nine payment points and tolls for a four-wheel car from ฿25 to ฿105 depending on where you leave. Cash, M-PASS and Easy Pass all work there. Off-road driving is not permitted by the rental agreement, so all-wheel drive is for grip on wet sealed roads, not for tracks, gravel or jungle.

Here is what we ask for and what the agreement covers.

What the main driver must carry

• Home driving licence: your national licence, held for the class of vehicle you are taking.
• International Driving Permit: issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention, and required alongside the national licence — section 42 bis of the Motor Vehicle Act. Citizens of ASEAN countries may drive on their national licence alone.
• Bank card: a card in the main driver's name, used for the security hold; the amount is set out in the rental agreement.

Driving without a valid permit carries a police fine of ฿500–1,000, and an insurer may refuse a claim — so the permit is worth arranging before you fly, not after.

Age, insurance and the agreement itself

The minimum driver age is 21. Conditions for drivers under 25, and for premium classes, are set out in the rental agreement rather than fixed here. Compulsory motor insurance, Por Ror Bor, covers injury to third parties and is attached to every registered car. First-class insurance covers damage to the vehicle itself; its terms and the excess are set out in the rental agreement.

Since 30 December 2025 a car rental agreement is a contract controlled by the OCPB: it is written in Thai, and all fees and penalties are disclosed in it. VAT 7% is already included in the prices you see — ฿1,600 to ฿3,000 per day across our ten models. Traffic-camera fines are issued to the car owner and re-invoiced to the renter, which matters on the motorway runs out of the city.

Delivery timing, the exact address and any delivery fee are agreed with a manager before the booking is fixed.

What the road rules mean for a self-drive SUV

Traffic keeps to the left and every car is right-hand drive, so a left-hand-drive habit takes an hour or two to unlearn. Speed limits sit at 80 km/h in built-up areas, 90 km/h outside them, 110 km/h on the expressways and 120 km/h on the motorway network. A foreign visitor needs a home driving licence plus an International Driving Permit (1949 Geneva Convention; section 42 bis of the Motor Vehicle Act); the police fine for driving without one is ฿500–1,000, and an insurer may refuse a claim. Citizens of ASEAN countries may drive on their national licence. Children under six need a TISI child seat, and everyone in the car wears a belt, including the back row.

Expressways, tolls and the M-Flow question

The city expressways run by EXAT — Chaloem Maha Nakhon, Si Rat and the rest — take cash or a tag; Easy Pass and M-PASS are interchangeable, but one car carries one tag. Motorway 7 toward Pattaya runs 149.3 km, passes Suvarnabhumi, and charges a four-wheel car ฿25 from Lat Krabang to Bang Bo, ฿100 to Pong and ฿105 to Pattaya. Motorway 9 uses M-Flow, where a camera reads the plate and the bill follows; without registration you have two days to pay it, and from the third day the rate doubles before a 10x tariff penalty applies.

Parking without losing an afternoon

• CentralWorld: two hours free, then ฿20 an hour, rising to ฿50 an hour after six hours.
• ICONSIAM: two hours free, ฿30 for the third hour, ฿60 an hour beyond seven.

• Motorway 9 (the outer Kanchanaphisek ring): cashless M-Flow — a camera reads the plate and the bill follows; M-PASS is also accepted.
• Don Muang Tollway: 28.1 km above Vibhavadi Rangsit Road from Din Daeng to Don Mueang.

Fuel, distance and one thing to settle at hand-over

The Everest, Pajero Sport, both Fortuners and the Isuzu MU-X take diesel; diesel B7 sits at ฿41.44 a litre against ฿39.94 for gasohol 95.

Weekly rates work out at daily × 6 and monthly at daily × 21, which is what makes a fortnight toward Kanchanaburi or Khao Yai cheaper per day than a weekend run to Pattaya.

• How long are you keeping it? Weekly is daily x 6 and monthly is daily x 21, so a longer booking lowers the per-day figure on any model.

Two things are worth knowing before you leave the airport. Traffic keeps to the left and every car we hand over is right-hand drive, which takes a full day of city driving to feel natural.

One habit pays for itself. Photograph the car and the fuel gauge at hand-over, keep the photos until the return is confirmed, and note any camera fine that arrives later: in Thailand those are issued to the car owner and re-invoiced to the renter, so a receipt trail protects you. Fuel is worth planning too — diesel B7 sat at ฿41.44 a litre and gasohol 95 at ฿39.94 in the latest Bangchak retail figures.
