Speed limits and where they change
- Autopista and autovía (AP-7, A-2, C-32, C-33): 120 km/h for cars — this covers the run down from the border and the link roads into the resort belt.
- Villages on the route: 30 km/h on a single-lane street in each direction, 20 km/h where the pavement and roadway share one platform, 50 km/h where there are two or more lanes each way.
Tolls, parking and the low-emission zone
Tolls are mostly a non-issue on this coast: the AP-7 corridor (Vila-seca — La Jonquera) has been free since 01.09.2021, and the C-32 Maresme and C-33 lost their barriers on the same date. What remains is C-16 and the southern C-32, neither of which sits on a Costa Brava route. Parking is where the planning pays off — Girona's zona blava runs 1.20 €/h with a two-hour maximum on working days, 9:30–13:00 and 16:00–20:00, while Lloret de Mar's Can Lloranes charges about 15 €/day between 23 June and 11 September and is free the rest of the year. The Zona de baixes emissions (ZBE) de Girona has applied since 15.09.2025, 7:00–20:00 on working weekdays, and it covers everything from la Devesa to c. d'Emili Grahit and from c. del Riu Güell to c. del Carme and Barri Vell; cameras read plates, so there is no sticker to display, and a Spanish rental car carries the DGT environmental badge that keeps it clear of the restriction.
