The ring roads M-30, M-40, M-45 and M-50 and the radial autovías A-1 to A-6 are free, while the radial R-2, R-3 and R-4 are tolled and take VIA-T. Paying within 20 days halves the amount. Glass and tyres are usually not part of basic CDW, so ask the manager at booking whether you want them added.

If something goes wrong on the road

Traffic fines are not the same as parking fines. For parking and unpaid tolls, the owner or the keeper of the car answers; for moving offences, alcohol and drugs, the person who was driving answers — and where the offence is not handed over at the roadside, the DGT works back to the owner or keeper, hire cars included, until it is proven who was at the wheel.
