Parking in London

Parking in London is set street by street by each borough. Here is how it is paid, what a parking ticket means and which river crossings are charged.

Street parking

Each borough sets its own zones, hours and charges, and they are shown on the signs at the kerb and in the payment app named on them. In Westminster — the West End and Mayfair — charges went up from September 2025. Read the sign every time you park: the rules can change from one side of a street to the other.

If you get a parking ticket

A penalty charge notice usually has to be paid within 28 days. In some cases it is reduced if paid within 14 days. If it is not paid, a charge certificate adds 50% and gives 14 more days, and after that the council can go to court. The amount is printed on the notice itself.

Dartford Crossing

The Dartford Crossing on the M25, east of London, is charged 6:00–22:00 every day, including weekends and bank holidays. A car pays £3.50 per crossing as a one-off payment or with pay as you go, or £2.80 with a pre-paid account. Pay by midnight the day after you cross; an unpaid crossing brings a £70 penalty, £35 if paid within 14 days and £105 if it is not paid.

Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels

The Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels under the Thames in east London are also charged, with higher rates at peak times on weekdays. They are paid through TfL Auto Pay; check the current rates on the TfL website before you use them.
