Weekly and monthly BYD rates on the island

The longer you book, the lower the per-day figure — worth checking before you split a stay into separate short bookings. In October and November, when rainfall peaks at 294.9 mm and 444.6 mm, a monthly booking also spares you re-booking every few days between showers.

The Dolphin carries a 44.9 kWh pack and sends 95 hp through the front axle, the Atto 3 pairs 60.5 kWh with 204 hp, likewise front-driven, and the Seal tops the trio with 82.5 kWh and 313 hp routed to the rear. Check the charge level against your planned distance before you set off rather than trusting a percentage on the dash.
Automatic, five seats, right-hand drive — what every model shares
The one habit worth breaking early is reaching for the gear selector with your right hand — it sits on your left here, so the first few kilometres through Chaweng or Lamai are the ones to take slowly. Set your mirrors and seat before you leave the delivery point, not in traffic.

Longer bookings on this page follow a fixed rule, not a negotiation: weekly is the daily rate times six, monthly is the daily rate times twenty-one. That makes the arithmetic simple enough to do before you message us.

The multiplier is fixed across the fleet, so you can work out any model's longer rate yourself before you ask. Bookings start from one day, so nothing stops you combining a short hire at the beginning of a trip with a longer one later.
What is included in the price and what is agreed at booking
- Security hold: a bank card in the main driver's name is used for it; the amount is set out in the rental agreement.
- Insurance: compulsory Por Ror Bor covers injury to third parties; first-class cover for the car, and its excess, are set out in the rental agreement.
- Delivery: the address, date and time are agreed with a manager before the booking is fixed, and a delivery fee, if any, is agreed when booking.
- Minimum age: 21; conditions for drivers under 25 are set out in the rental agreement.

Booking and delivery for BYD car rental in Koh Samui
We deliver the car to any address on Koh Samui and to Samui International Airport (USM). The delivery address, the date and the time are agreed with a manager before the booking is fixed, and a delivery fee, if any, is agreed when booking. Nothing about the hand-over is left to guesswork: you tell us where you are staying, we confirm what works.

What we need from you
Documents are passport, home driving licence, International Driving Permit unless you hold an ASEAN licence, and a bank card in the main driver's name. Minimum driver age is 21; conditions for drivers under 25 are set out in the rental agreement. The card is used for the security hold, and the amount is set out in the agreement. Since 30 December 2025 a car rental agreement is a contract controlled by the OCPB: it is written in Thai, and all fees and penalties are disclosed in it. Traffic-camera fines are issued to the car owner and re-invoiced to the renter.

Driving rules and licence for BYD car rental in Koh Samui
Thai traffic keeps to the left, which is why every car in our BYD fleet is right-hand drive — the same as every registered vehicle on the island. Before you take the wheel, two documents matter more than anything else in the agreement.
What you need to drive legally
- Home driving licence: your national licence is the base document — it must be valid.
- International Driving Permit: a foreign visitor needs the IDP issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention alongside the home licence; section 42 bis of the Motor Vehicle Act governs it.
- ASEAN licences: citizens of ASEAN countries drive on their national licence, with no IDP required.
- Police check: driving without the permit carries a fine of ฿500–1,000, and an insurer may refuse a claim.
- Documents at hand-over: passport, home driving licence, IDP unless you hold an ASEAN licence, and a bank card in the main driver's name.
Insurance, deposit and the agreement
Every registered car carries compulsory motor insurance (Por Ror Bor), which covers injury to third parties. First-class (Class 1) insurance covers damage to the car itself; its terms and the excess sit in the rental agreement, as do the security hold taken on the bank card and the minimum driver age of 21. Conditions for drivers under 25 and for premium classes sit in the same agreement. VAT 7% is already included in the prices shown.
Rules that catch visitors out
- Speed: 80 km/h in built-up areas, 90 km/h outside them; the island has no motorways or divided four-lane roads.
- Alcohol: 50 mg% in the blood is the limit for most drivers, 20 mg% for drivers under 20 and holders of temporary licences; refusal of a test counts as admission.
- Child seats: children under 6 need a TISI-standard child seat, and anyone below 135 cm needs a seat or a belt — the fine runs up to ฿2,000.
- Seat belts: every passenger wears one, including in the back row.
- Parking: no stopping at red-and-white or yellow-and-white kerbs.
- Cameras: traffic-camera fines are issued to the car owner and re-invoiced to the renter.
Trips worth taking in a rented BYD
The ring road is 51 km and connects the lowland with the coast; Nathon, Lipa Noi, Lamai, Chaweng, Bophut and Maenam all sit on it.
Full circuit and the stops on it
- Round the island: a 51 km loop that touches every resort on the coast; drive it clockwise from Chaweng so the sea stays on your left.
- Big Buddha and Bang Rak: Wat Phra Yai stands on the islet of Ko Phan off the north-east shore, joined by a causeway, with a 12 m statue built in 1972.
- Na Muang waterfall: inland, off the ring road.
- Secret Buddha Garden: in the hills at the centre of the island.
Most operators here do not allow their cars to leave the island: a breakdown or a crash on the mainland gets expensive. Raja Ferry Port runs Don Sak to Lipa Noi in about 1 h 30 min, hourly from 05:00 to 19:00, 15 sailings, with extra departures when the queue builds. The provincial tariff is ฿200 per passenger and ฿640 for a four-wheeled car, and electric and hybrid vehicles go in a separate category in the booking form. Once on the mainland, Khanom is 26.5 km from the Don Sak pier, Surat Thani 66.1 km, Krabi 208.9 km.
Two things the island decides for you
October to December is the wet stretch: 294.9 mm in October, 444.6 mm in November, 263.1 mm in December, against 64.3 mm in February. The other local habit is parking — the kerb painted red-and-white or yellow-and-white is a no-stopping zone, and the penalty for it is set out in the rental agreement.
