Weekly and monthly rates for longer stays

Longer bookings are priced at weekly from $180 and monthly from $630. Weekly equals the daily rate times six and monthly times twenty-one, so a longer stay lowers the effective daily cost.

The class you book also decides what the car can do on Georgian roads. For a week of city driving with a couple of day trips, an Economy or Crossover class is the sensible pick; book an SUV & 4x4 only if the itinerary really goes into the mountains.

What the agreement covers, and what it does not

The agreement is what fixes the deposit, the excess, the delivery terms and the fuel policy; we confirm each of those with you when booking, and none of them is a number printed on this page. A laptop left on a back seat or a bag taken from a parked car in Tbilisi is your own risk, not the policy's.

Tolls are the good news: the Roads Department confirmed on 10.06.2026 that «use of Georgia's international and domestic roads remains free of charge», with no change planned, and the new Rikoti section of the E60 east–west route — 52 km, 51 tunnels, 97 bridges, four lanes, opened 29.12.2025 — carries no charge either. There are no vignettes and no transponders to buy. Street parking in the capital is zonal: from 1 lari an hour after the first 15 free minutes, paid through the Tbilisi Parking app or at parking meters. Underground car parks in the centre run higher — around 2–3 lari an hour at Freedom Square, roughly 7 lari a day at Rike.

Fines, winter tyres and what to check at hand-over

Speeding 15–40 km/h over the limit is 50 lari; more than 40 km/h over, 150 lari. A phone in the hand is 30 lari, an unfastened belt 40 lari, running a red light 50 lari, and driving without a licence 500 lari. From 1 December to 1 March winter tyres are mandatory, and in government-designated zones chains on at least the two front wheels may be required in bad weather.

Winter changes the picture on the mountain routes. Winter tyres are compulsory from 1 December to 1 March, and in government-designated zones chains are required on at least two front wheels in severe conditions. The upper sections of the Georgian Military Road see landslides and snow, and the Jvari Pass closes when there is avalanche risk. If your trip is between December and March, build a spare day into the plan rather than a tight schedule.

Cross-border runs

Armenia is reachable overland, but a rental car goes there only with our driver: the main crossing is Sadakhlo–Bagratashen, about 80 km south of Tbilisi, with Sadakhlo 70 km away by road, and the second is Ninotsminda–Bavra. Tbilisi to Yerevan is roughly 280 km, or 4–5 hours including the border.

Azerbaijan is a different matter. The land border has been closed to passengers since 2020, and only the Tbilisi–Baku passenger train resumed on 26 May; every other overland point remains sealed, so a car cannot cross. Plan Armenia by road and Azerbaijan by rail.

The practical answer is simpler: pick one long route and one short one. Kazbegi or Kakheti as the big day out, Mtskheta as the easy half-day, and the rest of the time the car is for getting around the city at your own pace.
