What a Mazda car rental in Bangkok costs

The Mazda CX-30 is the cheapest way into a Mazda, at ฿1,100 a day — the crossover body, the 2.0 L engine and the same five seats and automatic gearbox as the Mazda 3, which sits ฿500 higher per day in the Comfort class. Because weekly is daily × 6 and monthly is daily × 21, the cost per day drops the longer you keep the car — a month in the CX-30 works out at ฿23,100 against ฿33,000 if you paid thirty separate days.

What the price includes and what is agreed at booking

• VAT 7%: included in every rate shown above, so the ฿1,100 you see is the ฿1,100 you pay for the day.
• Delivery: the car is brought to your address in Bangkok; a delivery fee, if any, is agreed when booking, so ask before you confirm dates.
• Security hold: a bank card in the main driver's name is used for it, and the amount is set out in the rental agreement rather than fixed here.
• Insurance: compulsory Por Ror Bor cover comes with the car; first-class cover and its excess are set out in the rental agreement.

Settle the model first, then the dates: the CX-30 and the Mazda 3 differ in price, not in seats or transmission, so choosing between them is a budget decision rather than a practical one.

Documents and driving rules for a Mazda rental

Two documents decide whether your Mazda car rental in Bangkok runs smoothly: a home driving licence and, for most visitors, an International Driving Permit. Thai traffic keeps to the left and every car here is right-hand drive, so the paperwork and the road habits are both worth ten minutes of your attention before you take the keys.

Licence, IDP and minimum age

Citizens of ASEAN countries may drive on their national licence without an IDP. The police fine for driving without the permit is ฿500–1,000, and an insurer may refuse a claim after an incident — that second consequence costs far more than the fine. Minimum driver age is 21; conditions for drivers under 25 and for premium classes are set out in the rental agreement. Bring your passport, your home licence, the IDP and a bank card in the main driver's name, which is used for the security hold. If you hold a non-ASEAN licence, get the permit before you fly.

Driving on the left in a right-hand-drive Mazda

Traffic keeps to the left and every car is right-hand drive, so the driver sits on the right, nearer the centre line, and the gear lever falls under the left hand. Speed limits are 80 km/h in built-up areas, 90 km/h outside them, 110 km/h on expressways, 120 km/h on the motorways and 100 km/h on elevated sections. Your first junction is the moment to slow down and check the mirror twice. Thailand's drink-drive norm was published in the Royal Gazette on 20 September 2024: 20 mg/dl applies to drivers under 20, to holders of temporary licences and to drivers without a valid licence for the class of car; for any other driver, treat any alcohol before driving as a reason to hand the keys to someone else.

• Home driving licence: the physical card, valid and matching the class of the Mazda you booked.
• International Driving Permit: the 1949 Geneva Convention booklet, carried alongside the home licence, not instead of it.
• Passport: your identity document, presented by the main driver named in the booking.

Delivery to your address and to the airports

We deliver the car to any address in the city and to Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) and Don Mueang Airport (DMK). The delivery address, the date and the time are agreed with a manager before the booking is fixed. A delivery fee, if any, is agreed when booking — ask before you confirm dates. Suvarnabhumi sits about 25 km from downtown, so a car handed over there saves you the run into the city on the day you land. Don Mueang is closer at 20.5 km in a straight line, and it is where the low-cost carriers fly: Thai AirAsia, Thai AirAsia X, Nok Air and Thai Lion Air. Both airports work the same way for us — the manager confirms the meeting point with you in advance. Book the delivery slot as early as you book the model.

Driving a rented Mazda around Bangkok

A rented Mazda here means left-hand traffic, right-hand drive and tolls that swallow small change. Plan the first drive around the expressway network rather than the surface roads, and the city opens up quickly.

Expressways, tolls and how to pay

City expressways run under EXAT — Chaloem Maha Nakhon, Si Rat and the rest of the network. Payment is cash or a tag: Easy Pass and M-PASS are interchangeable, but one car carries one tag. Motorway 9, the outer Kanchanaphisek ring, uses M-Flow — no barriers, a camera reads the plate and the bill follows.

Speed limits and what the cameras watch

• In built-up areas: 80 km/h inside the city, 90 km/h outside it.
• Motorways: 120 km/h on M7 and M9.
• Expressways: 110 km/h; 100 km/h on elevated sections.
• Alcohol: the published limit is 20 mg/dl for drivers under 20, on temporary licences, without a licence or on the wrong category; for everyone else, treat any drink before driving as a risk.
• Cameras: M7 carries a 120 km/h limit, and how a camera penalty is handled is set out in the rental agreement.

Parking and the low emission zone

Malls are the easy answer for parking. CentralWorld gives two hours free, then ฿20 an hour, rising to ฿50 an hour after six. ICONSIAM gives two hours free, ฿30 for the third hour and ฿60 an hour after seven. Terminal 21 Asok gives three hours free, then ฿20 an hour for hours four to six and ฿50 from the seventh. Central Bangna gives six hours free; Esplanade Ratchada, PARA Pinklao and Central Festival Eastville are free. On the street, read the signs where you stop. The Low Emission Zone covers vehicles with six or more wheels only, so a five-seat Mazda is outside it.

Before you leave the car

• Fuel: fill with gasohol 95 at ฿39.94 a litre or gasohol 91 at ฿39.57 — the range is petrol only, so the pump label never changes.
• Kerbside colour: red-and-white and yellow-and-white kerbs are no-parking; treat the paint as the rule.
• Tolls: keep small notes for cash booths and check the tag before the first barrier.
• Traffic fines: how camera penalties are settled is set out in the rental agreement, so raise them with the rental company rather than at the roadside.

Day trips in a Mazda rental from Bangkok

Motorway 7 runs 149.3 km from the capital toward Chonburi, Pattaya and Map Ta Phut. Motorway 9, the outer Kanchanaphisek ring, is barrier-free on M-Flow: a camera reads the plate and the charge follows later.

Where the motorways take you

Pattaya: down Motorway 7 from the Lat Krabang entrance, a full-day run on the Gulf coast that suits the Mazda 3. Hua Hin: south along the Gulf coast, a full-day return in a Mazda 2 or Mazda 3.

Tolls and the M-Flow account

City expressways under EXAT — Chaloem Maha Nakhon, Si Rat and the rest — take cash or an Easy Pass tag, and M-PASS works on the same readers; one car carries one tag. The Don Muang Tollway stretches 28.1 km above Vibhavadi Rangsit Road from Din Daeng to Don Mueang, with a guide estimate of ฿60–115 for a passenger car. On M-Flow, an unregistered trip can be paid within two days by plate number through the M-Flow site, app, QR, bank or ATM; from the third day the tariff doubles, then reaches tariff plus 2× plus a 10× penalty, and after that court.

Fuel and range before you leave

All three Mazdas take petrol, so the pump label question disappears — fill with gasohol 95 and check the tank reads full before the return leg. The Mazda CX-30 and Mazda 3 both run a 2.0 L engine with 165 hp, while the Mazda 2 keeps to a 1.3 L unit with 93 hp, and every car in the line-up is automatic with front-wheel drive and five seats.

Insurance, deposit and the rental agreement

Every Mazda on this page moves under Thai compulsory motor insurance, and the deposit is set out in the rental agreement. What follows is how that paperwork works in practice when you collect the car in Bangkok.

Compulsory cover and first-class insurance

Compulsory motor insurance, Por Ror Bor, covers injury to third parties and is attached to every registered car, so it travels with the Mazda 2, the Mazda 3 and the CX-30 whether you buy anything else or not. Damage to the car itself is a separate matter: first-class (Class 1) insurance covers it, and the terms of that cover, together with the excess, are set out in the rental agreement.

• Por Ror Bor: compulsory third-party cover attached to the car, not to the driver.
• Class 1 insurance: covers damage to the car; its terms and the excess are set out in the rental agreement.
• Security hold: a bank card in the main driver's name is used for it; the amount is set out in the agreement.
• Traffic-camera fines: issued to the car owner and re-invoiced to the renter.
• Rental contract: since 30 December 2025 a car rental agreement is a contract controlled by the OCPB, written in Thai, with all fees and penalties disclosed in it.

What the manager settles with you before the keys change hands

The booking is agreed with a manager, and that conversation is where the money questions belong: the model, the dates, the delivery point, and anything the agreement leaves to the parties. Ask then whether the deposit is held on the card or otherwise, what the excess on your chosen Mazda comes to, and how a camera fine would reach you. A delivery fee, if any, is agreed when booking too.
