Because the daily figure is the only variable, you can work out any car's longer-stay price yourself before you ever ask a manager — multiply the class price on this page by six or by twenty-one and you have the number. That matters most in July and August, when the coast fills up.

Fuel is around €1.94 a litre for Petrol 95 E5 across the province. Nothing on the coastal run between Blanes and Roses charges a barrier.

Toll-free corridors and the roads that link the resorts

• AP-7 Vila-seca — La Jonquera: the whole corridor down to the French border has been toll-free since 01.09.2021.
• C-32 Maresme (Montgat — Palafolls): the route towards Blanes and Lloret de Mar — barriers came down on the night of 31 August to 1 September 2021.
• C-33 (Montmeló link): toll-free since 01.09.2021.
• C-16 (Cadí, Vallvidrera, Sant Cugat–Terrassa–Manresa) and C-32 south (Castelldefels–Sitges–El Vendrell): the only Generalitat tolls left, with the Vallcarca barrier at €8.42 and Cubelles at €5.03 for category 2 — neither sits on a Costa Brava route.

The Girona low-emission zone

The Zona de baixes emissions (ZBE) de Girona has been in force since 15.09.2025 and covers the area from la Devesa park to c. d'Emili Grahit and from c. del Riu Güell to c. del Carme and Barri Vell. It operates 7–20, Monday to Friday, on working days. Cars without a DGT environmental badge that are not registered in Girona are the ones restricted; cameras read plates and the sticker itself does not need to be shown. Twenty-four days a year are allowed inside the zone during restricted hours without a permit, and foreign plates can get a temporary authorisation if the car meets the technical and environmental requirements. Cars in the Spanish rental fleet carry the DGT badge, so a car we supply is not affected by the restriction. If your trip plan puts Girona old town on a weekday morning, that is the one leg worth checking against the clock before you leave.

What fuel costs and how to fill up

Petrol 95 E5 averages €1.94 a litre across the province of Girona, with a median of €1.979, a low of €1.718 and a high of €2.122 across 250 filling stations; on the coast the average is €1.956 across 58 stations. Petrol 98 E5 runs at €2.106 province-wide and €2.131 on the coast, and diesel (Gasóleo A) at €1.922 and €1.932 respectively. The car is supplied with a full tank and must be returned with a full tank — full-to-full, lleno-lleno in Spanish. Anything short of that is charged as the missing fuel plus a refuelling service fee, set out in the rental agreement. Filling up before you hand the car back is the simplest way to keep the closing cost predictable.

Which class suits which road

The coast roads and the inland runs ask different things of a car. Fiat 500e (Electric, Automatic, €40) covers short hops between Lloret de Mar and Blanes, but plan the charging around the day rather than the other way round.

When the group is the deciding factor

Passenger vans and Minivans are the two classes where one car replaces two. Our vans carry 7 to 9 seats, which covers a family plus grandparents or two couples travelling together. If your group splits during the day, two Economy cars at €22–€26 often cost less than one van and give everyone their own schedule.

What we ask you to decide before booking

Whether anyone else will drive, how far you plan to go in a day, and whether you need an automatic. Most Economy cars in our fleet are manual, so if you need an automatic, book it by name rather than by class.

Fuel, insurance and what is settled in the rental agreement

Fuel is the one line on a self-drive hire here where the rule is entirely ours, and it is simple: the car leaves with a full tank and comes back full. Nothing else is on offer. No pre-paid tank, no full-to-empty. If the tank goes back short, the missing litres and a refuelling service fee are charged as set out in the agreement — so the cheapest habit is to fill up at the last station before you hand the car back.

Petrol 95 E5 averages €1.94 a litre across the province of Girona, with a median of €1.979 and a range from €1.718 to €2.122 across 250 filling stations. Diesel (Gasóleo A) sits at €1.922 on average, median €1.959, across 266 stations. Petrol 98 E5 runs to €2.106 on average and up to €2.289 at the top of the range, at 152 stations. Along the coast itself the numbers edge up: €1.956 for 95, €1.932 for diesel, €2.131 for 98.

• Seguro Obligatorio de Responsabilidad Civil: compulsory third-party cover sits on every car legally on a Spanish road and is part of the booking by default; it pays third parties, not the driver and not the car.
• Excess (franquicia): the amount you pay yourself when there is damage; it is printed in the agreement whether or not you buy a waiver.
• Deposit: a hold placed on the card agreed when booking, against possible damage and extras; the amount is set out in the agreement before you sign.

What the agreement also settles, and what we do not put a figure on here, is the excess amount itself, the deposit, any delivery fee and any discount. All four are written into the agreement for your specific booking, so read them there rather than expecting a number on a page.

And the compulsory cover travels with the car, not with the driver named on the contract.

Before you confirm, four things decide whether the booking runs smoothly: the car class and its named model, the address and time you agree with a manager, the documents you will carry, and the road rules that apply where you are going. Check them in that order.

Where the questions have no fixed answer

The same applies to the minimum age, the young-driver surcharge, which cards are accepted and whether the car may cross the border: these are agreed when booking, not stated as a rule. If you plan a run over the border or the road to Cap de Creus, raise it with the manager first, because the Cadaqués–Far de Cap de Creus road is closed to traffic on set days through the season — daily 9:30–21:30 from July to 13 September.
