SUV car rental in Toronto
A week of driving out to Niagara Falls, hauling skis up to Blue Mountain or simply moving a family of six around the Greater Toronto Area is easier when the vehicle matches the trip — and that is what our SUV car rental in Toronto is built for.
What SUV car rental in Toronto includes in our fleet
Rent-Trip runs 31 SUVs across 13 brands, and every one of them is petrol, automatic and all-wheel drive. Our fleet starts at C$ 58 a day and runs to C$ 322 a day, with weekly bookings from C$ 348 and monthly from C$ 1,218.
Five, seven or eight seats — which SUV fits your group
| Seats | Cars | Models | Engine | Power |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | 17 | Volkswagen Tiguan, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Toyota RAV4 | 1.5–3.6 L | 175–300 hp |
| 7 | 7 | Mitsubishi Outlander, Kia Sorento, Toyota Highlander, Mazda CX-90 | 2.3–3.6 L | 181–300 hp |
| 8 | 7 | Honda Pilot, Hyundai Palisade, GMC Yukon, Chevrolet Suburban | 3.5–5.3 L | 284–380 hp |
Petrol, automatic and all-wheel drive across the class
Every car in the fleet is a petrol automatic with all-wheel drive, and output ranges from 175 hp in the Chevrolet Equinox to 380 hp in the Ford Expedition.
Compact or full-size — matching the SUV to the trip
Seven-seat: the Mitsubishi Outlander at C$ 75 opens the third row, and the Kia Sorento, Toyota Highlander and Mazda CX-90 follow at C$ 84–C$ 100.
SUV rental prices and longer bookings
SUV car rental in Toronto is priced from C$ 58 to C$ 322 per day across our 31-car fleet. A week starts at C$ 348 and a month at C$ 1,218, and both longer terms are calculated straight from the daily rate of the car you pick.
Daily, weekly and monthly rates across the SUV class
| Period | From | How it is calculated |
|---|---|---|
| One day | C$ 58 | Daily rate of the chosen SUV |
| One week | C$ 348 | Daily rate × 6 |
| One month | C$ 1,218 | Daily rate × 21 |
The table shows the entry point of the class, not a fixed tariff — every model carries its own daily figure, and the longer terms follow that figure. A week is the daily rate multiplied by six, a month by twenty-one, so the arithmetic is the same whichever vehicle you choose.
The cheapest and the most expensive SUV on the page
The Volkswagen Tiguan at C$ 58 a day is the most affordable model we list, and the Ford Explorer at C$ 322 a day sits at the top of the range. Between them run the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage at C$ 62, the Honda Pilot and Hyundai Palisade at C$ 68, the Jeep Cherokee at C$ 70, and the Nissan Murano and Toyota RAV4 at C$ 71.
The Tiguan carries a 2.0 L engine with 184 hp and five seats; the Explorer pairs 300 hp with a 2.3 L unit and seven seats; the Suburban and Expedition both run a 5.3 L and 3.5 L respectively with 355 and 380 hp across eight seats.
Delivery of your SUV car rental in Toronto, agreed when booking
We bring the car to you — that is the whole point of how Rent-Trip works.
Where we deliver the SUV
- Any address in the city: home, hotel, apartment building or workplace — we deliver to the address you give the manager when the booking is agreed.
- Union Station, Downtown Toronto, Mississauga, North York, Scarborough and Vaughan: all inside our delivery area, so a hand-over there is arranged the same way as anywhere else.
- Outside these places: arranged case by case and not promised on the site — ask the manager before you count on it.
Agreeing the delivery address, date and time
The delivery address, the date and the time are agreed with a manager before the booking is fixed, and that conversation is where the hand-over actually gets planned.
Picking the SUV up again
Delivery outside the places listed above is arranged case by case and is not promised on the site, so if your stay sits further out, raise it with the manager at the start and not on the morning of the hand-over.
Fuel, documents and cross-border rules for SUV car rental in Toronto
Full-to-full fuel policy
Every SUV leaves us with a full tank and comes back with a full tank — the full-to-full rule, with no pre-paid or full-to-empty option on the site. If the tank comes back short, the missing fuel and a refuelling service fee are charged as set out in the rental agreement.
Driving licence rules for visitors to Ontario
- Over 3 months: anyone visiting from another country for more than 3 months needs an International Driver's Permit (IDP) issued in their own country.
- Where to get the IDP: it cannot be obtained in Canada, so sort it out before you fly — a permit arranged on arrival will not happen.
- In the car: the driver must carry insurance for the vehicle and the original or an exact copy of the ownership permit; the legal minimum age to drive is 16.
The minimum rental age, a young-driver surcharge and the cards we accept are not fixed by law — they are agreed when booking.
Taking the SUV across the border
Most cars hired in Canada can be driven into the United States, but only with permission from the branch, and that permission is not automatic for every class. Without written approval the trip breaks the agreement and the insurance behind it, so ask before you plan the route — and carry your passport at the crossing. If a US leg is part of your trip, raise it at the booking stage rather than the morning of departure.
Winter driving and tolls on an SUV car rental in Toronto
Winter tyres in Ontario — what the law says
Winter tyres are not compulsory in Ontario, so a rental SUV here can legally run on all-season rubber through the coldest months. Quebec is different — winter tyres are required there from 1 December to 15 March for vehicles registered in Quebec, rental cars included, with fines of C$ 200–300 — but that rule does not apply to cars carrying plates from another province, so an Ontario-registered vehicle is outside it. All 31 SUVs in our fleet are all-wheel drive, which helps on slush and on the 400-series highways but does not replace tread depth.
Highway 407 ETR is a toll road with no cash booths: cameras read the plate and the bill follows. Rates for passenger cars run from 49.93¢ to 119.21¢ per kilometre depending on the zone and the time you enter, plus a C$ 1 trip toll charge. Without a transponder there is a camera charge of C$ 5.30 per trip and a C$ 5 monthly account fee.
Charges and penalties: who covers tolls, camera charges and any penalty notice is agreed when booking — it is set out in the rental agreement, not assumed.
Fuel around the city sits at about C$ 1.75 per litre for regular, so a full tank before a long return leg is worth planning rather than leaving to the last exit.
Planning a winter route out of the city
Our SUVs cover the first — every one is automatic, petrol and all-wheel drive, from 175 hp in the smaller models to 380 hp in the largest. Decide the route before you leave, keep the tank above half, and confirm the toll arrangement with the manager at booking so nothing arrives as a surprise afterwards.
SUV car rental in Toronto for family trips or weekend getaways
In our fleet, that usually means moving up one seat row rather than up one price band: a seven-seat Mitsubishi Outlander starts at C$ 75 a day, and the eight-seat Honda Pilot at C$ 68 a day costs less than several five-seat models.
Seven seats for six people plus luggage
Seven-seat SUVs in our fleet are the Mitsubishi Outlander at C$ 75, the Kia Sorento at C$ 84, the Toyota Highlander at C$ 88, the Hyundai Santa Fe at C$ 97, the Mazda CX-90 at C$ 100, the Dodge Durango at C$ 115 and the Ford Explorer at C$ 322 a day, all petrol, automatic and all-wheel drive. The Explorer sits at the top of the page for price, with a 2.3 L engine and 300 hp. On a family trip, count the suitcases and the stroller before you count the passengers — a seven-seater booked for six adults with full luggage often ends up with bags on laps.
Eight-seat SUVs for larger groups
- Honda Pilot and Hyundai Palisade: both seat eight, run a 3.5 L and 3.8 L petrol engine, and start at C$ 68 a day — the cheapest way to move eight people in one car.
- Ford Expedition: the most powerful engine on the page at 3.5 L and 380 hp, C$ 182 a day, for eight people plus luggage over a long distance.
Matching the SUV to the trip, not to the photo
A weekend out of town and a week of city errands ask for different cars. For a run to Muskoka or Blue Mountain with four people, a five-seat compact such as the Volkswagen Tiguan at C$ 58 or the Hyundai Tucson at C$ 62 covers the distance comfortably and fits into tight parking. For Niagara Falls or Algonquin Park with a full car and luggage, the extra row or the longer boot of a Highlander or CX-90 pays for itself over the trip. Tell the manager the route, the number of passengers and the luggage when you book — the delivery address, date and time are agreed at that point, and the car can be matched to the trip rather than to the first available model.
Booking an SUV car rental in Toronto with a manager
The fleet holds 31 SUVs, from the Volkswagen Tiguan at C$ 58 a day to the Ford Explorer at C$ 322 a day, and the manager confirms which of them is free for your dates before anything is fixed. Rent-Trip delivers to any address in the city and to three airports, and every detail of the hand-over is settled in that conversation first.
What is agreed before the booking is fixed
- The delivery address: a street address, YYZ, YTZ or YHM, or a place in and around the city where we already have a page, such as Union Station, Downtown Toronto, Mississauga, North York, Scarborough or Vaughan.
- Date and time: the day and the hour of delivery are written into the booking, not left to a call on the morning itself.
- The length of the booking: a day, a week or a month, with weekly from C$ 348 and monthly from C$ 1,218.
- The rental agreement: the deposit, the insurance excess, delivery fees and any discount are set out there, not quoted in advance.
- Everything else: the minimum age for the driver, the young-driver surcharge and the cards accepted are agreed when booking.
Why the timing detail matters more than it looks
The delivery address, the date and the time are agreed before the booking is fixed, so the car arrives at the address you named rather than at a default one. If your plans run past the places we list, say so at this stage — delivery outside them is arranged case by case and is not promised on the site.
