• Passport or ID: the original in the main driver's name.
• Bank card: a credit card in the main driver's name. Debit cards are not accepted everywhere.

Every legally registered car in Spain carries Seguro Obligatorio de Responsabilidad Civil, and it is included in any hire by default. It covers injury to third parties up to 70,000,000 EUR per incident however many people are hurt, and 15,000,000 EUR per incident for property damage, under Real Decreto Legislativo 8/2004, article 4.2 as amended by Ley 5/2025, in force since 26.07.2025. It does not cover the driver or the car itself. On top of that, CDW, THW, SCDW or SPCDW and glass-and-tyres cover are options, and the franquicia — the amount you pay yourself after damage — is printed in the agreement whatever level of protection you take.
