Girona-Costa Brava Airport (GRO) sits at Vilobí d'Onyar, 12.5 km south-west of Girona, and the drive from there spreads out fast: 34.6 km to Lloret de Mar, 54.4 km to Palafrugell, 75.2 km to Roses, 89.4 km to Cadaqués. Barcelona-El Prat (BCN) is 89.6 km and roughly 75 minutes from Lloret on a clear run.

• Dacia Sandero, Fiat 500, Fiat Panda: €24 a day — five seats in the Sandero and Panda, four in the 500; the two Fiats are hybrids.
• Citroen C3, Ford Fiesta, Hyundai i10: €25 a day — the i10 is the cheapest automatic we run, 1.0 L, 67 hp.

Fuel works full-to-full: the car leaves with a full tank and comes back with a full tank, and anything missing is charged as set out in the rental agreement.

Longer bookings and how they are priced

Weekly bookings start at €132 and monthly at €462. Those figures follow two fixed multipliers rather than a discount table: a week is the daily rate multiplied by six, and a month is the daily rate multiplied by twenty-one. At the bottom of the fleet that means an Economy car at €22 a day costs €132 for a week and €462 for a month; the same arithmetic applies up the range to the Exotic class at €500 a day. Nothing about the length of the booking changes what is included — the clean car and the full tank are part of every booking on this page, and any delivery fee is set out in the rental agreement.

What is settled when you book

• Delivery address, date and time: agreed with a manager before the booking is fixed, and confirmed in the same conversation.
• Deposit and insurance excess: set out in the rental agreement, never a figure quoted in advance.

Choosing your car rental in Girona, Costa Brava

Couples, families and groups

• Up to seven: Minivans — 7 cars from €55 a day, the 7-seaters from €60 — and Passenger vans — 9 cars from €90 — cover larger groups, and seat counts across the fleet run from 2 to 9.
• Automatic only: the Hyundai i10 is the cheapest automatic we have at €25 a day, with the Skoda Fabia and Toyota Yaris Hybrid following at €28 and €30.

Coast, hills and the electric option

Electric is a real option rather than a token one: five electric cars start with the Fiat 500e at €40 a day, an automatic with four seats and a 24 kWh battery, and run through the Citroen e-C3, Peugeot e-208 and Renault 5 E-Tech to the Peugeot e-2008 at €50. Premium, Luxury, Exotic and Convertible classes are also available from €50, €200, €500 and €70 a day respectively, for travellers who want something specific. Driving and parking with car rental in Girona, Costa Brava

Two city rules decide how a self-drive trip here feels day to day: the low-emission zone in Girona itself and paid street parking on the coast. Both are cheap to get right and expensive to ignore, and neither is obvious to a driver arriving from the airport.

The low-emission zone and the DGT sticker

Zona de baixes emissions (ZBE) de Girona applies from 15.09.2025, 7–20, Monday to Friday, on working days. It covers the area from la Devesa park to c. d'Emili Grahit and from c. del Riu Güell to c. del Carme and Barri Vell. Cars without a DGT environmental sticker that are not registered in Girona are the ones restricted, and cameras read number plates rather than stickers, so nothing needs to be displayed. Foreign plates can get a temporary authorisation if the car meets the technical and environmental requirements. Spanish rental fleets carry the DGT sticker, and cars with a valid sticker face no restriction in the zone. Non-residents get 24 days a year inside the zone during restricted hours without authorisation.

Tolls, parking and fuel prices

• C-32 Maresme: the run from Barcelona towards Blanes and Lloret de Mar is also free, with the barriers removed on the night of 31 August to 1 September 2021.
• Girona zona blava: €1.20/h, maximum 2 hours (€2.40) on working days, 9:30–13 and 16–20; the hours differ around Sant Narcís.
• Girona zona verda: also €1.20/h for non-residents, capped at 2 hours, with different hours in Pedreres–Vista Alegre and Güell–Devesa.
• Lloret de Mar, Can Lloranes: 160 spaces, roughly €15/day from 23 June to 11 September, free outside that window.
• Lloret de Mar, Avinguda Alegries: 200 park-and-ride spaces, free for stays over 12 hours, with a free bus ticket into the centre, 15 June–15 September.

Fuel on this stretch is worth planning rather than improvising. Petrol 95 E5 averages 1.94 EUR/l across the province of Girona and 1.956 EUR/l along the coast, with 250 stations in the province and 58 on the coast; diesel averages 1.922 EUR/l and 1.932 EUR/l respectively. Fill up away from the seafront before a long run north — the coast median of 1.994 EUR/l for petrol 95 is the highest of the three figures, and the difference adds up over a week of resort hopping.

Documents, insurance and fuel on a Girona car rental

Driving licence, passport and card at pick-up

Under Spanish rules, a licence from the EU or EEA is valid in Spain for as long as it stays in date, and no international permit is needed alongside it. For licences issued outside the EU or EEA, the DGT advises getting an international driving permit before the trip and carrying it together with your passport and your national licence; a licence that is not in Spanish is accepted either with an official certified translation or if it was issued under the Geneva or Vienna convention model. If you take up residence in Spain, a non-EU licence stops being valid six months after you receive your ordinary residence there. The minimum age to drive in Spain is 18 for category B, but the minimum age to rent, the young-driver surcharge, the card accepted for the deposit and the deposit amount itself are not fixed by law — they are agreed when booking, and the deposit and any excess are set out in the rental agreement.

What the compulsory insurance covers — and what it does not

• Seguro Obligatorio de Responsabilidad Civil: compulsory third-party cover that comes with every booking by Spanish law and applies even if the person driving was not named in the agreement.
• Limits: €70,000,000 per incident for personal injury, however many people are hurt, and €15,000,000 per incident for property damage.
• What it excludes: the driver and the car itself, so damage to the vehicle is not covered by it.
• CDW (Collision Damage Waiver): an optional waiver that reduces your liability for damage to the car, minus the excess, and excludes vandalism that did not happen while you were using the vehicle.
• THW (Theft Protection): an optional waiver for full or partial theft and for vandalism, minus the excess.

Fuel, the DGT sticker and the low-emission zone

We supply the car with a full tank and it comes back full — full-to-full, or lleno-lleno in Spanish — and no other fuel option is offered. Miss the level and the missing fuel plus a refuelling service fee are charged as set out in the rental agreement. In Girona the Zona de baixes emissions (ZBE) de Girona applies from 15.09.2025, Monday to Friday, 7:00–20:00 on working days, across the area between la Devesa park and c. d'Emili Grahit and between c. del Riu Güell and c. del Carme and Barri Vell. Cars without a DGT environmental sticker that are not registered in Girona are the ones restricted, with 24 days a year allowed inside the zone during restricted hours without a permit; cameras read the plates, so the sticker does not have to be displayed. Airports, towns and how the hand-over is arranged

We deliver to Girona-Costa Brava Airport (GRO) and to Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN), and to any address in the coastal towns we have a page for — Lloret de Mar, Blanes, Tossa de Mar, Platja d'Aro, Palafrugell, Begur, L'Escala, Roses and Cadaqués among them. Girona itself and Figueres are covered too. If you are flying into GRO, the drive to Lloret de Mar is 34.6 km and takes about 37 minutes; Roses is 75.2 km and roughly 63 minutes; Cadaqués is 89.4 km and around 80 minutes.
