The class floor is not the class price

The cheapest car in a class sets the «from» figure, and the classes overlap once you look at models rather than labels. A 7-seat Toyota Fortuner at ฿1,590 sits below a 5-seat Toyota Hilux Revo at ฿1,605 and a Ford Ranger at ฿1,650 — so a family of seven can pay less per day than a couple in a pickup. Inside the pickup class the spread is wider still: the MG Extender starts at ฿1,250, while the Hilux Revo, the Ranger, the Ranger Raptor and the Hilux Travo all sit between ฿1,605 and ฿1,650. Among the SUVs, the Fortuner and the Fortuner Legender share ฿1,590, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is ฿1,690, and the Ford Everest and Isuzu MU-X both come in at ฿1,750. Premium is a separate tier: the C 220 d costs ฿4,280 — the same as the 12-seat Hyundai H-1 and Toyota Commuter vans in Minivans — and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the only car in our fleet that takes petrol as well as diesel, tops the page at ฿7,000 per day.

Compare the model you actually need, not the class name above it — and check the seat count first, because that is the one figure a class label never tells you.

What a diesel car rental in Pattaya costs per day, week and month

Every car on this page is priced per day, and longer bookings are calculated from that daily figure by a fixed multiplier rather than by a discount guessed at the counter.

Daily, weekly and monthly rates explained

Our diesel car hire runs from ฿1,250 to ฿7,000 per day, and the weekly and monthly rates follow the same page minimum: weekly from ฿7,500 and monthly from ฿26,250. The multiplier is fixed — weekly equals the daily rate times six, monthly equals the daily rate times twenty-one — so a car at ฿1,250 per day costs ฿7,500 for a week and ฿26,250 for a month, while the Mercedes-Benz E-Class at ฿7,000 per day scales up on the same two multipliers. What does change is which rate applies from the first day of the booking, and that is settled before the car is delivered. VAT 7% is included in the prices shown, so the daily, weekly and monthly figures are the ones you compare, with no tax added on top at hand-over. If your dates sit either side of a weekly or monthly boundary, ask the manager to price both ways.

What sets the price of each diesel car

• Class and model: the daily rate rises with the class, from ฿1,250 for the MG Extender pickup through ฿1,590 for the Toyota Fortuner and ฿1,690 for the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport to ฿7,000 for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
• Seats: a 5-seat pickup starts at ฿1,250, a 7-seat SUV or MPV at ฿1,590, and a 12-seat van such as the Hyundai H-1 or Toyota Commuter at ฿4,280 per day.
• Booking length: the daily figure is the base for every longer term, so the weekly and monthly rates are simply that figure multiplied by six or by twenty-one.
• Delivery arrangement: a delivery fee, if any, is agreed when booking — it is not folded into the daily rate shown here.

Paying for a longer booking

A bank card in the main driver's name is used for the security hold, and the amount is set out in the rental agreement rather than quoted here. The minimum driver age is 21, and the conditions for drivers under 25 and for premium classes are also set out in that agreement. Hire is available from one day, so a single day at ฿1,250 and a month at ฿26,250 are both normal bookings on this page. Since 30 December 2025 a car rental agreement in Thailand is a contract controlled by the OCPB: it is written in Thai, and all fees and penalties are disclosed in it. Read that document before you drive away — the daily, weekly or monthly rate you agreed with the manager is the figure that should appear in it.

Choosing a diesel car rental in Pattaya by seats, engine and drivetrain

Seats, engine size and drivetrain are the three numbers that decide which diesel car suits a trip — not the badge on the tailgate. Here is how the fifteen cars split across those three measures.

Seats: five, seven or twelve

• 5 seats: MG Extender, Toyota Hilux Revo, Ford Ranger, Ford Ranger Raptor, Toyota Hilux Travo and both premium sedans — the Mercedes-Benz C 220 d and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

Engine size and drivetrain

Engine displacement across the fleet runs from 1.9 L to 3.0 L, and drivetrain splits into rear-wheel drive and 4x4. The Ford Ranger Raptor is the only car listed as 4x4 only, at ฿1,650 per day with a 2.0 L bi-turbo. The Toyota Fortuner, Ford Ranger and Ford Everest are listed rear-wheel / 4x4, so the driven axle depends on the unit you are handed. Everything else — the MG Extender, the Hilux Revo and Travo, the Pajero Sport, the Isuzu MU-X, both vans and both Mercedes-Benz sedans — is rear-wheel drive.

Ask for the driven axle in writing when you book if it matters to you, because the same model name can cover both.

Matching the three numbers to a trip

A couple travelling light fits the 5-seat MG Extender at ฿1,250 per day, the lowest daily figure on this page. Two families moving together take a 7-seat SUV or the Innova Crysta at ฿1,590 and split the cost. A group of twelve, or anyone hauling dive kit and golf bags, needs the H-1 or the Commuter — and should check the parking before committing. For a business trip where the car is also the meeting room, the C 220 d or E-Class at ฿4,280 and ฿7,000 is the only diesel sedan option here.

We bring it to your hotel, condo or villa anywhere in the city, and to U-Tapao (UTP), Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Don Mueang (DMK). • Any address in the city: a hotel on Beach Road, a condo in Jomtien or Pratamnak Hill, a villa in Naklua and Wong Amat or out in East Pattaya — you give the address, we agree the meeting point.
• U-Tapao Airport (UTP): the closest arrival point, 48.9 km and 62 minutes by road from the centre, so a car can be waiting when your flight lands.
• Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK): 115.8 km and roughly 100 minutes from the city along Motorway 7.
• Don Mueang Airport (DMK): 151.3 km and about 121 minutes, the airport most low-cost carriers use.

Pick-up and return times, and what to have ready

Our diesel cars are available from 1 day, so a short trip works as well as a two-week stay.

Bring a passport, your home driving licence and an International Driving Permit (1949 Geneva Convention; section 42 bis of the Motor Vehicle Act) unless you hold an ASEAN national licence, which works without one. A bank card in the main driver's name is used for the security hold, and the amount is set out in the agreement. The minimum driver age is 21; conditions for drivers under 25 and for premium classes are set out in the agreement. Traffic keeps to the left and every car is right-hand drive, so the first ten minutes on Sukhumvit or the Motorway 7 spur take getting used to.

If you land at a different airport

Suvarnabhumi is the main gateway for Pattaya — around 120 km by road — and Motorway 7 runs past the airport, so a diesel car handed over there is on the way to the city almost immediately. From U-Tapao the drive is short enough that the hand-over eats into your first hour rather than your first afternoon. Delivery somewhere else is arranged case by case; ask the manager and we will tell you what is possible.

Documents and rules for diesel car rental in Pattaya

Thai paperwork for a self-drive car looks heavier than it is, but two documents decide whether your trip runs clean or ends with a roadside argument. Here is what we ask for, what the law asks for, and where the line between the two sits.

What you need to show at hand-over

• Passport: the main driver's passport — the agreement is written against the name in it.
• International Driving Permit: a 1949 Geneva Convention IDP, recognised in Thailand alongside your national licence under section 42 bis of the Motor Vehicle Act.
• ASEAN licences: citizens of ASEAN countries drive on their national licence with no IDP and no conversion.
• Bank card: a card in the main driver's name is used for the security hold; the amount is set out in the rental agreement.

Driving without the IDP carries a police fine of ฿500–1,000, and an insurer may refuse a claim after an incident — so the permit is worth more than the paper it is printed on.

Age, licence and the security hold

The minimum driver age is 21.

Two more rules sit outside the agreement. Traffic in Thailand keeps to the left and every car here is right-hand drive, which matters most on your first hour behind the wheel. And since 30 December 2025 a car rental agreement is a contract controlled by the OCPB: it is written in Thai, and every fee and penalty is disclosed inside it. Read the agreement before you drive off — that is where the excess and the fuel terms actually live.

Traffic-camera fines are issued to the car owner and re-invoiced to the renter. On Motorway 7 the 120 km/h limit is enforced primarily by speed cameras, so the ticket reaches us first and then reaches you.

Documents for the booking itself

The delivery address, the date and the time are agreed with a manager before the booking is fixed, and the same conversation covers anything the agreement leaves open. Bring the passport, the home licence, the IDP unless you hold an ASEAN licence, and the bank card in the main driver's name. Compulsory motor insurance (Por Ror Bor) is attached to every registered car and covers injury to third parties; first-class cover for damage to the car, its terms and the excess, are set out in the rental agreement.

What fuel costs and where you buy it

Diesel B7 retails at ฿41.44 per litre, against ฿49.29 for premium 98 and ฿39.94 for gasohol 95. Premium diesel is the priciest pump grade at ฿50.05.

Tolls on Motorway 7 and what they cost

Motorway 7 runs from Bangkok through Chonburi to Pattaya and on to Map Ta Phut, eight lanes at a 120 km/h limit. The Bangkok–Pattaya stretch measures 125.865 km, and the toll is paid at booths between Lat Krabang and Pong. Cash works in the left-hand lanes; M-PASS and Easy Pass use the blue lanes, and for a hired car cash is the simpler option. Motorway 9, the outer Bangkok ring, links to M7 at Thap Chang Interchange. If you would rather skip the tolls entirely, Highway 34 and then Highway 3 through Bang Saen and Bang Phra reach Pattaya for nothing but fuel.

What else the running costs include

• Speed cameras on M7: the 120 km/h limit is enforced mainly by cameras, and a camera fine is issued to the registered owner of the car — that is, to us — then re-invoiced to the renter.
• VAT: 7% is already included in the prices shown.
• Insurance: compulsory Por Ror Bor cover is attached to every registered car; first-class cover, its terms and the excess are set out in the rental agreement.
• Parking: check the price of the bays at Walking Street and Bali Hai Pier on the day.
