The Ceed is the Comfort option — a 120 hp 1.0 L hatchback at €40 — and the Sportage tops the list as the only SUV, the only hybrid and the only car here with all-wheel drive alongside front-wheel drive, at 1.6 L and 150 hp for €44 a day.

The Picanto is the only four-seater here; every other Kia takes five, so a family of four fits any model above Economy. A couple touring the city centre rarely needs more than the Picanto, while a group of five that picks it will be splitting up for the drive.

The multipliers are fixed: weekly is the daily rate multiplied by six, monthly is the daily rate multiplied by twenty-one, so the longer booking is simply the shorter one extended on the same arithmetic. On the Picanto that means €90 for a week against €105 for seven separate days, and €315 for a month against €450 for thirty days. The gap widens as the model gets dearer — the Sportage at €44 a day runs to €264 a week and €924 a month.

Two Crossovers, one class, five euros apart

Crossover holds two cars at different prices: the Stonic from €33 a day and the XCeed from €38, so the same class and the same five seats carry a €5 daily difference. Over a week that is €198 against €228, over a month €693 against €798. For a booking that stays inside the city, the Stonic does the same job for less; for a week that includes a run down to Albufera or along the coast, the €5 a day is easier to justify. Our manager confirms the exact model when the booking is agreed.

For an early flight out of VLC, ask for the hand-over the evening before — the airport sits 9.2 km from the centre in a straight line, and the 26-minute run is the figure without traffic.

Fuel, parking and the ZBE València rules for a Kia rental

Every Kia on this page runs on petrol except the Sportage, which is a hybrid, and we hand the car over with a full tank that you return full. That single rule — lleno-lleno in Spanish — covers the whole fuel question: no pre-paid tank, no full-to-empty option, and the missing litres plus a refuelling service fee are charged as set out in the rental agreement if the gauge comes back low.

What fuel costs and where to buy it

Gasolina 95 E5 averaged €1.978 a litre across 62 stations in the municipality of València, with a median of €2.039, a low of €1.74 and a high of €2.089. Widen the net to the 602 stations of the province and the average drops to €1.915. Gasóleo A — the diesel grade, officially named that way on Spanish price boards rather than diésel — sat at €1.923 across 63 municipal stations and €1.896 across 627 provincial ones.

Parking zones in València

• Zona azul centro y ensanches: Ciutat Vella, L'Eixample and Extramurs, two hours maximum, €0.55 up to 25 minutes, €1.00 for 60 minutes, €1.70 for 120.
• Zona azul resto ciudad: the same two-hour cap at €0.30, €0.80 and €1.50 respectively.
• Zona naranja: mixed resident-and-rotation bays, non-residents pay €1.10, €2.10 or €3.30 for the same steps, Monday to Friday 9:00–20:00 in Ciutat Vella and 9:00–19:00 around Ruzafa, El Botànic and La Roqueta, Saturdays 9:00–15:00 everywhere.

The ZBE València rules for a Kia rental

ZBE València covers 27.8 km² inside Ronda Nord and the avenidas de Tarongers and Serradora up to Bulevard Sud, and it is phased: from 01.12.2025 to 31.12.2026 it restricts only category A vehicles — petrol registered before 2001 and diesel before 2006 — that are registered outside the province of Valencia; from 01.01.2027 it adds category A cars registered outside the city; from 01.01.2028 it covers all category A cars including residents'.

The rule to remember is that a car without a sticker is the one the cameras are looking for.

Kia car rental in Valencia documents and insurance

This section covers the paperwork you carry and the cover that applies to a Kia rental in Valencia. The rules below are Spanish state rules, identical wherever in the country you drive, and the insurance structure is standard for the Spanish market. Anything about cards, age or the deposit itself is settled when you book.

Documents that travel with you

• EU/EEA licence: fully valid in Spain while it has not expired; no international permit is needed on top of it.
• Non-EU licence: valid for driving as a visitor. DGT advises getting an International Driving Permit before the trip and carrying it with your passport and national licence.
• Permiso Internacional de Conducción: supplementary only — shown together with your national licence, never alone; valid for one year.
• Licence not in Spanish: valid either with an official certified translation into Spanish, or if it was issued to the model of Annex 9 of the Geneva Convention or Annex 6 of the Vienna Convention. For Cyrillic, Arabic and character-based scripts this in practice means an IDP or a certified translation.

Insurance: what is included and what is optional

Every car legally on a Spanish road carries Seguro Obligatorio de Responsabilidad Civil, and it is included by default. Its limits are €70,000,000 per incident for personal injury and €15,000,000 per incident for property damage, under Real Decreto Legislativo 8/2004, article 4.2 as amended by Ley 5/2025, in force since 26.07.2025. It covers harm to third parties — not the driver, and not the car. CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) is the company's option that removes your liability for damage to the car itself in a collision with another vehicle or an object, except for the franquicia. THW covers total or partial theft and vandalism damage, again minus the franquicia. The franquicia is printed in the agreement, and its amount depends on the company and the car class — ours is set out in the rental agreement.

If something goes wrong

For parking and unpaid tolls, the owner or the renter of the car is liable; for moving violations, alcohol and drugs, the person who was driving is. If the offence was not handed over at the roadside, liability falls on the owner or renter — DGT names both vehículos de alquiler and de renting until it is established who was driving. Fines for speeding run from €100 to €600 on the DGT scale, with 2 to 6 points on the higher bands, and there is a 50% reduction when you pay within 20 calendar days. Alcohol limits are 0.25 mg/l of breath for the general limit and 0.15 mg/l for drivers in their first two years, with anything above 0.60 mg/l a criminal offence. A phone held in the hand is €200 and 6 points; a seatbelt or child-seat offence is €200 and 4 points. Child seats (SRI) are mandatory for children under 135 cm.

Before you drive away

At hand-over, every scratch and dent must be entered in the contract or the inspection sheet before you leave, signed by both sides, with a copy kept by you — otherwise the damage is charged to you. The declared price must include all mandatory charges you cannot drive without, such as the compulsory third-party insurance. If the model you booked is not available, you may ask for another car at no extra cost, even a class above; if you are given a lower class, the price must be reduced. Our own rule on fuel is simple: the car comes with a full tank and goes back with a full tank — lleno-lleno. No other fuel option is offered.

Day trips out of the city and stays of a week or more pull in opposite directions on the Kia range: short loops reward the cheapest small car, long stays reward the model that costs least per day of use.

Day trips: Albufera, Sagunto and Xàtiva

The AP-7 (Autopista del Mediterráneo) on the Salou (Tarragona) — Alicante stretch has been toll-free since 01.01.2020, with 373.8 km released, so Dénia, Calp, Benidorm and Peñíscola cost nothing in péage from here.

Longer stays: why the weekly and monthly rates change the model you pick

A week is priced as daily × 6 and a month as daily × 21, so a month of the Picanto starts at €315 and a month of the Ceed at €840 — the gap between classes grows in absolute terms the longer you keep the car, even though the multiplier stays the same. Over 30 days the Picanto works out at roughly €10.50 a day of use, which is what makes Economy the rational long-stay choice if you rarely leave the city and only need the car for errands and weekend runs. Pick the Sportage for a month and you are paying €924 for hybrid drive and AWD you may use twice; pick the Stonic at €693 and you keep the fifth seat and the crossover body without the premium.
