Tolls on the Routes You Will Actually Drive

Most of the motorway network here stopped charging years ago, which changes the arithmetic of a day out. The AP-7 between Vila-seca and La Jonquera — the whole corridor down to the French border — has been free since 01.09.2021, and the C-32 Maresme between Montgat and Palafolls, the route towards Blanes and Lloret de Mar, had its barriers removed on the night of 31 August to 1 September 2021. The C-33 to Montmeló is free too. What remains are the Generalitat's tolls on the C-16 towards the Cadí and Vallvidrera, and the southern C-32 towards Castelldefels, Sitges and El Vendrell — none of them on Costa Brava routes. Catalonia keeps discussing a return to charging by vignette or by use, but no decision has been taken. Check the barrier signs rather than assuming, because the free corridor is what makes a Roses or Cadaqués run cheap.

Parking: Blue Zones, Free Winter Bays and Summer Rates

Parking is where the season shows up most sharply in your budget. In Girona the zona blava runs Monday to Saturday in working hours, 9:30–13:00 and 16:00–20:00, at €1.20 an hour capped at two hours (€2.40), with different hours around Sant Narcís; the zona verda for non-residents costs the same €1.20 an hour for a two-hour maximum, though Pedreres–Vista Alegre runs Monday to Friday 9:30–13:00 and 17:00–20:00 plus Saturday mornings, and Güell–Devesa runs Monday to Saturday 08:00–20:00. In Lloret de Mar the Can Lloranes car park holds 160 spaces at roughly €15 a day from 23 June to 11 September and is free the rest of the year, while the Avinguda Alegries park-and-ride has 200 spaces, is free for stays over 12 hours and includes a free bus ticket into the centre between 15 June and 15 September. Lloret's zona blava splits into zone A — Tarradellas and Francesc Macià, year-round with seasonal hours — and zone C at Fenals, Canyelles, Boadella and Can Lloranes from 23 June to 11 September.

Two practical notes. First, the road to the Far de Cap de Creus lighthouse is closed to cars at set hours — daily 9:30–21:30 from July to 13 September, and on set dates from late March to 1 November — so check the calendar before you commit to a lighthouse morning. Second, parking in Lloret de Mar splits sharply: the Can Lloranes car park holds 160 spaces at about €15 a day between 23 June and 11 September and is free outside that window, while the Avinguda Alegries park-and-ride has 200 spaces, is free for stays over 12 hours, and throws in a free bus ticket to the centre from 15 June to 15 September.

The Citroën e-C3 changes the maths on longer loops. At €42 a day with its 44 kWh battery, it suits the coastal hop between Blanes, Tossa de Mar and Platja d'Aro; plan charging around your accommodation.

The practical points that decide most bookings come down to a short list.
