The only minivan on this page

The Mercedes-Benz Marco Polo 250 d 2.1 Diesel is the only minivan here, 7 seats at $190 per day. Its 2.1 L diesel engine and rear-wheel drive suit long highway runs, and at 190 hp it is the least powerful car on this page. For gravel or winter passes the all-wheel SUVs are the safer pick — the Marco Polo has no drive to the front axle.

Rates on this page run from $69 to $210 per day. A week is calculated as the daily rate multiplied by six, a month as the daily rate multiplied by twenty-one — those are the only multipliers we use, so a week or a month costs less per day than paying the daily rate.

• Foreign licence validity: a foreign licence is accepted for up to 1 year from the date you entered Georgia, and no exchange is required.
• Non-Latin or non-Cyrillic script: if your licence carries neither Latin nor Cyrillic characters, bring an International Driving Permit or a notarised translation — Georgia is a party to the 1968 Vienna Convention.
• Age and experience: the minimum age and the required driving experience are agreed when booking, not stated on this page.

Third-party liability cover for Georgian-registered cars is not a fixed market condition at the moment: the government put its introduction into the autumn legislative work plan and named no date, so treat any promise of it as unconfirmed. Theft of personal belongings is not covered by a standard policy.

What the manager confirms before you drive away

Ask about winter tyres if you are heading for the mountains between 1 December and 1 March, when they are compulsory, and about chains for the passes. Anything else you need is raised with the same manager and confirmed in the agreement, never assumed at hand-over.

Renting a 7-seater in Tbilisi fuel and road rules

Here is what applies to a 7-seater on a self-drive trip.

Fuel: petrol 4.06 ₾, diesel 4.76 ₾ per litre

A full tank on a 7-seater is the one running cost you control, and it depends on which fuel your car takes. As of 21.09.2026 petrol costs 4.06 ₾ per litre and diesel 4.76 ₾ — diesel runs about 17% dearer at the pump. On this page nine cars are petrol and two are diesel: the Mercedes-Benz GL 350 CDI BlueTEC and the Mercedes-Benz Marco Polo 250 d 2.1 Diesel. We supply every car with a full tank and ask for it back full — full-to-full; the missing fuel and a refuelling service fee are charged as set out in the rental agreement. Speed limits, belts and phones

On a self-drive trip here the limits are 60 km/h in built-up areas and 20 km/h in residential zones, 90 km/h outside towns on a category B licence and 110 km/h on motorways; with a light trailer it drops to 80 km/h. Seat belts are required for the driver and all front passengers — rear belts are not compulsory under the law, though we would use them with a full car. Phones only through a headset or hands-free, both hands on the wheel. Children under 3 ride in the back in a child seat or restraint matched to height and weight, and a child under 6 may not be left alone in a parked car. Alcohol is limited to 0.3‰.

Parking in Tbilisi and what a fine costs

Zonal street parking starts from 1 ₾ per hour after the first 15 minutes free, paid through the Tbilisi Parking app, parking meters or parking.tbilisi.gov.ge. Underground car parks in the centre are the easier option with a large vehicle: Freedom Square around 2–3 ₾ per hour, Rike around 7 ₾ per day, Orbeliani Square around 1–2 ₾ per hour. An unpaid parking session carries a 50 ₾ fine, and a towed car costs 150 ₾ plus 20 ₾ per day of storage.

Winter tyres and mountain passes

Winter tyres are mandatory from 1 December to 1 March, and in government-designated zones under particular weather conditions chains are required on at least two front wheels.

Routes that suit a full car

• Gudauri: 121 km, usually 2–2.5 hours, a resort at 2,200 m on the E117; the season runs from early December to mid-April.
• Mtskheta: 26 km, the shortest worthwhile run with a full car and the easiest introduction to the S3.
• Borjomi and Bakuriani: 160 km and 184 km; Bakuriani is the winter run where all-wheel drive and winter tyres from 1 December to 1 March matter.

Georgia's international and domestic roads remain free of charge — the Roads Department confirmed on 10.06.2026 that this is unchanged — so a long route costs fuel and nothing else in tolls. On avalanche risk the Jvari Pass can close, so build a spare half-day into any Kazbegi plan. For Armenia, the Sadakhlo–Bagratashen crossing is 70 km south of Tbilisi by OSRM, and Tbilisi–Yerevan runs about 280 km, 4–5 hours with the border; a car goes to Armenia only with our driver — a self-drive car stays in Georgia.
