The minimum driver age is 21. Conditions for drivers under 25 and for premium classes are set out in the rental agreement rather than quoted here, and the same agreement carries the security hold figure. Bring the permit as well as the original licence: the two documents work as a pair and neither replaces the other.
Insurance attached to the car
Compulsory motor insurance, Por Ror Bor, covers injury to third parties and is attached to every registered car. First-class insurance covers damage to the car itself; its terms and the excess are set out in the rental agreement. Since 30 December 2025 a car rental agreement is a contract controlled by the OCPB, written in Thai, with all fees and penalties disclosed in it. Ask the manager at booking which documents apply to your particular licence before you pay, and keep the permit with the licence for the whole trip.
Insurance, deposit and the rental agreement
Insurance and the deposit are the two things that decide how a booking actually ends, so they are worth ten minutes of your attention before you take the keys.
What insurance covers on a rented Audi
- Compulsory motor insurance (Por Ror Bor): attached to every registered car in Thailand and covers injury to third parties, not the car itself.
- First-class (Class 1) insurance: covers damage to the car; its terms and the excess are set out in the rental agreement.
- Traffic-camera fines: issued to the car owner and re-invoiced to the renter, so a speeding ticket on Motorway 7 follows you, not us.

A bank card in the main driver's name is used for the security hold, and the amount is set out in the agreement. Since 30 December 2025 a car rental agreement in Thailand is a contract controlled by the OCPB: it is written in Thai, and every fee and penalty is disclosed inside it. Ask for the total before the booking is fixed — the daily rate of ฿7,900 is where the conversation starts, not where it ends.
Signing the agreement and where it happens
What you need at hand is straightforward: passport, home driving licence, International Driving Permit unless you hold an ASEAN licence, and the bank card in the main driver's name. The minimum driver age is 21, and conditions for drivers under 25 are set out in the agreement. Read the excess and the hold before you drive away, not after.

That is the document that carries the figures this page deliberately does not: the security hold on a bank card in the main driver's name, the excess under Class 1 insurance, and any delivery fee. Read it before you drive away, not after.
The licence side is fixed by Thai law, not by us. A foreign visitor needs a home driving licence plus an International Driving Permit under the 1949 Geneva Convention; citizens of ASEAN countries may drive on their national licence instead. Driving without the permit carries a police fine of ฿500–1,000, and an insurer may refuse a claim — worth knowing before a camera or a checkpoint finds you.

- Motorway 7 to Pattaya: 149.3 km with nine payment points; from the Lat Krabang entry it is ฿25 to Bang Bo, ฿100 to Pong and ฿105 to Pattaya.
- Motorway 9: the outer Kanchanaphisek ring uses M-Flow, where a camera reads the plate and the bill follows later — around ฿30–70 for a car.
- Don Muang Tollway: 28.1 km above Vibhavadi Rangsit Road from Din Daeng to Don Mueang, roughly ฿60–115 for a car.

- Pattaya via Motorway 7: the 149.3 km motorway runs Bangkok – Chonburi – Pattaya – Map Ta Phut, with Pattaya at the 125.865 km mark; a four-wheel car pays ฿25 from the Lat Krabang entry to Bang Bo, ฿100 to Pong and ฿105 to Pattaya, cash or M-PASS/Easy Pass.
Tolls, and who the bill follows
City expressways run on the EXAT network — Chaloem Maha Nakhon, Si Rat and the rest — paid in cash or with an Easy Pass tag, and M-PASS tags are interchangeable with them, though one car carries one tag. Motorway 9, the outer Kanchanaphisek ring, charges by M-Flow: no barrier, a camera reads the plate and the bill arrives later. Without registration you can settle it within 2 days by plate number through the M-Flow site or app, QR, bank or ATM; from the third day the tariff doubles, then tariff plus 2× plus a penalty of 10× the tariff, then court. On the Don Muang Tollway, the 28.1 km elevated run over Vibhavadi Rangsit Road from Din Daeng to Don Mueang, expect ฿60–115 for a passenger car. The practical question for a hire is who settles the M-Flow bill, so ask at hand-over whether a tag is linked to the car before you join a barrier-free lane.
