Class choice follows group size and route more than budget: a 12-seat van at ฿2,150 and a 4x4 pickup at ฿1,700 sit ฿450 apart, yet they solve completely different problems. Check the seat count against the people travelling, not against the luggage.

Diesel Car Rental in Bangkok Classes and Prices

Prices across the 18 diesel cars run from ฿1,600 to ฿4,400 a day, and the class you pick decides most of that spread. Here is what each group costs, how many seats it carries and which models sit in it.

Diesel minivans, SUVs and premium sedans

Minivans start at ฿2,150 for the 12-seat Toyota Commuter, with the 11-seat Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Toyota Ventury and Hyundai H-1, the 12-seat Toyota Hiace, the 7-seat Toyota Innova Crysta and the 8-seat Kia Carnival at ฿4,400. Premium is two sedans: the Mercedes-Benz C 220 d at ฿3,500 and the BMW 3 Series at ฿3,800.

Weekly rates are lower per day at daily x 6 and monthly at daily x 21; both are agreed with a manager when booking.

Fuel and Running Costs for Diesel Car Rental in Bangkok

Every diesel car we hand over runs on one fuel type, and the running costs around it are the ones a driver actually pays here: the pump, the expressways, the mall car park. Below is what each of those costs, with the figures we can stand behind.

Tolls and parking on a diesel trip

• City expressways: EXAT runs Chaloem Maha Nakhon and Si Rat; cash or an Easy Pass/M-PASS tag, one tag per car.
• Motorway 7: the main route out towards Pattaya, 149.3 km long, paid at 9 points; from Lat Krabang a car pays ฿25 to Bang Bo and ฿105 to Pattaya.
• Motorway 9: the outer Kanchanaphisek ring, billed through M-Flow — a camera reads the plate and the invoice follows.
• Don Muang Tollway: 28.1 km above Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, from Din Daeng out to Don Mueang.
• Mall parking: CentralWorld gives 2 hours free, then ฿20/h, rising to ฿50/h after 6 hours; ICONSIAM gives 2 hours free with ฿30 for the third hour.
• Parking fines: a car left at a red-and-white or yellow-and-white kerb is a fine, and camera fines are issued to the car owner and re-invoiced to the renter.

Fuel and the rental agreement

One practical point: M-Flow bills by plate, so ask at hand-over whether a tag is already linked before you drive through a barrier-free lane. The same applies to any camera-issued toll or traffic fine — it reaches the owner first and is re-invoiced to the renter under the agreement, which since 30 December 2025 is an OCPB-controlled contract written in Thai with all fees and penalties disclosed in it. Anything about the security hold or the excess sits in the rental agreement, not here.

Rules and Documents for Diesel Car Rental in Bangkok

Thailand drives on the left, every car is right-hand drive, and a foreign visitor needs two documents before getting behind the wheel. The paperwork side is short: passport, home licence, permit, bank card.

Documents a foreign driver needs

• Home driving licence: your national licence from your country of residence, valid for the class of vehicle you book.
• International Driving Permit: the 1949 Geneva Convention permit, required alongside the home licence under section 42 bis of the Motor Vehicle Act; ASEAN citizens drive on their national licence without one.
• Bank card: a card in the main driver's name is used for the security hold; the amount is set out in the agreement.
• Age: the minimum driver age is 21; conditions for drivers under 25 and for premium classes are set out in the agreement.

Driving without an International Driving Permit carries a fine of ฿500–1,000, and an insurer may refuse a claim after an incident — the permit costs far less than that risk.

Insurance and what it covers

• Por Ror Bor: compulsory motor insurance attached to every registered car; it covers injury to third parties.
• Class 1 insurance: first-class cover for damage to the car itself; its terms and the excess are set out in the agreement.
• Camera fines: traffic-camera fines are issued to the car owner and re-invoiced to the renter, so a speeding ticket reaches you after the trip.
• Rental agreement: since 30 December 2025 a car rental agreement is a contract controlled by the OCPB, written in Thai, with all fees and penalties disclosed in it.
• VAT: 7% is included in the prices shown, so the daily rate on this page is the rate you pay.

Speed limits and driving rules on a diesel trip

Speed limits are posted in kilometres per hour: 80 in built-up areas, 90 outside them, 120 on the motorway network, 110 on expressways and 100 on elevated sections. Seat belts are worn by every passenger, including the back row, and children under 6 must ride in a TISI-standard child seat. Parking against a red-and-white or yellow-and-white kerb is prohibited. The Low Emission Zone applies only to vehicles with six or more wheels, so a diesel pickup or SUV is outside its scope.

What we need from you to fix a booking

The agreement is written in Thai — since 30 December 2025 a car rental contract is controlled by the OCPB, so every fee and penalty is disclosed in it rather than agreed verbally. Read the delivery time and the return time on it before you drive away; those two lines decide whether the booking runs as planned. A bank card in the main driver's name carries the security hold, and its amount is set out in the agreement rather than quoted here. The minimum driver age is 21, and conditions for drivers under 25 and for premium classes are set out in the agreement. VAT 7% is already included in the prices shown, so the daily figure you see — from ฿1,600 to ฿4,400 — is the figure on the contract. Traffic-camera fines are issued to the car owner and re-invoiced to the renter, which is worth remembering on the motorway runs out of the city.

Why the manager call is not a formality

Tell the manager which way you are heading first — Suvarnabhumi via Motorway 7, a hotel in Siam, or straight out towards Pattaya — and the delivery slot can be set around that rather than around a default. If your flight into Don Mueang is late, say so before the booking is fixed, not after; moving a delivery slot is a conversation, and it is far easier before the car is on its way.

Longer Diesel Car Rental in Bangkok and Day Trips

A diesel rental stretches further than the city limits: weekly and monthly rates cut the daily figure, and the same pickups and SUVs that handle Sukhumvit traffic also handle the run to Pattaya or Khao Yai.

Weekly and monthly diesel rates

• Weekly: daily rate x 6 — the Hilux Revo Double Cab at ฿1,600 a day comes to ฿9,600 for the week.
• Monthly: daily rate x 21 — the same pickup is ฿33,600 for the month.
• Longer bookings: the per-day figure drops the further out the return date sits, so a two-week hire costs less per day than a three-day one.
• Rate basis: every class on this page follows the same multipliers, from the ฿1,600 pickup to the ฿4,400 Kia Carnival.
• Availability: the 18 cars are shared across all booking lengths, so the longer the hire, the earlier the class you want is worth reserving.

The saving is real but the multiplier is fixed — 6 days charged for 7, 21 for 30 — so the cheapest way to book a month is still to book it as a month. If your plans may shift, ask the manager about date changes before the booking is fixed rather than after.

Diesel trips out of the city

Motorway 7 runs 149.3 km from Bangkok to Chonburi, Pattaya and Map Ta Phut, with 125.865 km of that to Pattaya; a car pays ฿25 from the Lat Krabang entrance to Bang Bo, ฿100 to Pong and ฿105 to Pattaya, or roughly ฿105–130 for the whole run. Motorway 9, the outer Kanchanaphisek ring, uses M-Flow barrier-free lanes at around ฿30–70 for a car, and the Don Muang Tollway charges about ฿60–115 over its 28.1 km.

Documents to carry

A foreign visitor driving here needs a home driving licence plus an International Driving Permit issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention — section 42 bis of the Motor Vehicle Act.
