Girona-Costa Brava Airport sits 12.5 km south-west of Girona, but the resorts are strung out along the coast: GRO to Lloret de Mar is 34.6 km and about 37 minutes, GRO to Roses 75.2 km and 63 minutes, GRO to Cadaqués 89.4 km and 80 minutes, 41.8 km of it on the AP-7. Barcelona-El Prat works the same way for anyone arriving on a long-haul flight — 89.6 km and 75 minutes to Lloret de Mar via the C-32 and C-31; the C-32 Maresme has been toll-free since 01.09.2021.

If you are staying in the old town of Girona, bear in mind that the Zona de baixes emissions (ZBE) de Girona has been in force since 15.09.2025 between 7:00 and 20:00, Monday to Friday. Spanish rental cars carry the DGT environmental badge, so the restriction does not bite on a Toyota booked with us — but it does apply to cars without one, and that is worth knowing before you plan a day in the city.

From Girona-Costa Brava Airport the numbers are honest: 34.6 km and 37 minutes to Lloret de Mar, 54.4 km to Palafrugell, 75.2 km and 63 minutes to Roses, and 89.4 km and 80 minutes up to Cadaqués. Speed limits are 120 km/h on the autopista and autovía and 90 km/h on the carretera convencional.

Fuel, and what a tank costs

The Girona ZBE, and why your Toyota is fine

The Zona de baixes emissions (ZBE) de Girona has been in force since 15.09.2025 and covers the area from la Devesa park to c. d'Emili Grahit and from c. del Riu Güell to c. del Carme and Barri Vell, running 7–20, Monday to Friday on working days. It restricts cars without a DGT environmental badge that are not registered in Girona; cameras read plates, so there is nothing to display. Spanish rental fleets carry the DGT badge, so a car booked through us faces no restriction there. There is one allowance worth knowing: 24 days a year inside the restricted hours without a permit.

Why the hand-over is agreed rather than assumed

You land at GRO, or you are already in Lloret de Mar, Blanes or Roses, and the car has to reach you there. So the manager agrees the address, the date and the time before the booking is fixed, and delivery outside the Costa Brava is arranged case by case and is not promised on the site.

The arrival slot matters more than the model. A flight that lands at 23:40 and a hand-over agreed for 23:40 are two different things — leave an hour between them, and the car is waiting when you walk out rather than the other way round. If your plans move, tell the manager before the agreed time, not after.

What to have ready before you confirm

• Driving licence: an EU/EEA licence is valid in Spain while it has not expired; a licence from outside the EU/EEA is valid for driving as a tourist, and DGT recommends an international driving permit before the trip. Bring it with your passport and your national licence.
• The card question: which cards are accepted for the deposit, the minimum rental age and the young-driver surcharge are agreed when booking — they are the rental company's conditions, not a rule of Spanish law.
• The fuel rule: the car is supplied with a full tank and must be returned with a full tank, lleno-lleno. No other fuel option is offered on the site.

The limits are 70,000,000 EUR per incident for personal injury and 15,000,000 EUR for property, under Real Decreto Legislativo 8/2004, article 4.2 as amended by Ley 5/2025, in force since 26.07.2025.

Inspect the car and keep your copy

Spanish consumer rules require every scratch and dent to be written into the agreement or the inspection sheet before you drive off, signed by both sides, with a copy left with you — otherwise the damage comes back to you. If the model you booked is not there, you can ask for another car at no extra cost, even a class above; if you are given a lower class, the price should come down; if the car does not match the agreed terms, the booking can be cancelled and the prepayment returned.
