How booking works with a manager

We agree the delivery address, the date and the time with a manager before the booking is fixed, and a delivery fee, if any, is agreed when booking. Nothing about the hand-over depends on you finding a counter: the car comes to where you are staying on the island, or to Samui International Airport (USM). Tell us your flight number or your hotel name when you write, and the time you want the car in your hands. Fixing the address and the time first means the car meets you where you actually are, not at an office you have to hunt for after a long flight.

What is included and what is agreed separately

• The car itself: a Mercedes-Benz C-Class or a BMW X3, petrol, automatic, 5 seats, delivered clean with a full tank.
• Delivery: to any address on the island or to Samui International Airport (USM); the address, date and time are agreed with a manager before the booking is fixed.
• Insurance: compulsory Por Ror Bor comes with every registered car; Class 1 cover and the excess are set out in the rental agreement.
• Deposit and fees: the security hold amount, any delivery fee and every other charge are set out in the rental agreement or agreed when booking.
• Documents: passport, your home driving licence, an International Driving Permit unless you hold an ASEAN licence, and a bank card in the main driver's name.

One thing worth knowing before you choose: the minimum driver age is 21, and the conditions for drivers under 25 and for premium classes are set out in the rental agreement — so if you are booking for a younger driver, raise it with the manager when you agree the dates rather than at hand-over.

The BMW X3 is a premium SUV with 5 seats, a 2.0 L petrol engine, 252 hp, automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, at ฿8,000 per day. Same fuel, same automatic gearbox, same 5 seats — the difference is drivetrain, power and the higher price.

Our premium rates are simple: the Mercedes-Benz C-Class starts at ฿3,500 per day and the BMW X3 at ฿8,000 per day. When you book for longer, the daily cost drops — weekly bookings start at ฿21,000 and monthly at ฿73,500. VAT 7% is included in the prices shown, and the manager confirms the final figure when the booking is fixed.

The maths behind those figures is fixed: a weekly rate is the daily rate multiplied by six, and a monthly rate is the daily rate multiplied by twenty-one. That is why the longer you keep the car, the lower the cost of each individual day — a month at the monthly rate works out considerably cheaper per day than the same car booked day by day. Our two premium models sit at different points on that scale, so the saving is larger in absolute terms on the BMW X3 than on the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. If your plans are still forming, ask the manager to price both a weekly and a monthly option before you commit — the difference usually decides the length of the booking.

What a longer booking changes

• Weekly rate: the daily rate multiplied by six, so a week of premium car rental on the island starts at ฿21,000.
• Monthly rate: the daily rate multiplied by twenty-one, so a month starts at ฿73,500.
• Per-day cost: falls as the booking lengthens, because the multiplier stays below the number of days you actually drive.
• VAT: 7% is already inside every price we quote, so the rate you see is the rate you discuss.
• Confirmation: the exact total, any delivery fee and the payment and deposit terms are agreed when booking and set out in the rental agreement.

Which model for which length of stay

For a stay of a week or more, the choice usually comes down to how much driving you plan beyond the ring road. The length of the booking matters as much as the badge — a month in the C-Class costs less per day than a week in the X3. Tell the manager how long you are staying and roughly how far you expect to drive, and the right model usually picks itself.

What we agree before the booking is fixed

The address, the date and the time are settled with a manager first; the booking is fixed only after that. Delivery across the island is part of how we work. If your plans move, tell the manager before the car is on its way: the address and the time are the two things that can still be changed at that point. Anything about the agreement itself — the deposit, the insurance excess, delivery charges — is set out in the rental agreement.

Arriving at Samui International Airport

Samui International Airport (USM) sits in Bo Phut, about 2 km north of Chaweng, and it is one of our hand-over points. It is a private airport owned by Bangkok Airways, with around 50 flights a day and over 1.4 million passengers in January–June 2024. Agree the meeting point and the time with a manager before you fly. If your flight is delayed, say so when booking rather than on the day.

Getting to the west coast and the piers

Lipa Noi pier is where the Raja Ferry from Don Sak comes in, roughly 1 hour 30 minutes across, with 15 sailings a day between 05:00 and 19:00 in both directions. If you are collecting the car after a ferry crossing, agree the pick-up at the pier with a manager in advance.

Documents and rules for premium car rental in Koh Samui

Every driver of our premium cars needs a home driving licence plus an International Driving Permit, and the rental agreement is a contract controlled by the OCPB since 30 December 2025.

What you need to drive our premium cars

• Home driving licence: a full licence from your own country, valid and carried with you for the whole rental period.
• International Driving Permit: the 1949 Geneva Convention permit, required alongside the home licence under section 42 bis of the Motor Vehicle Act; citizens of ASEAN countries may drive on their national licence instead.
• Bank card in the main driver's name: used for the security hold; the amount is set out in the rental agreement.
• Minimum driver age: 21, with conditions for drivers under 25 and for premium classes set out in the rental agreement.

Driving without the permit is not a formality: the police fine runs ฿500–1,000, and an insurer may refuse a claim after an accident.

Insurance, traffic rules and fines on the island

Compulsory motor insurance, Por Ror Bor, is attached to every registered car and covers injury to third parties; first-class insurance covers damage to the car, and its terms and the excess are set out in the rental agreement. Traffic keeps to the left and every car here is right-hand drive, so the first kilometres on the ring road feel unfamiliar even to confident drivers. Speed limits are 80 km/h in built-up areas and 90–120 km/h outside them, though on Koh Samui there are no motorways or four-lane divided roads to reach the upper figures. The alcohol limit is 50 mg% in blood, dropping to 20 mg% for drivers under 20 and holders of temporary licences; the sanction is up to 1 year of imprisonment, a fine of ฿5,000–20,000, or both, plus a licence suspension of at least 6 months, and refusing the test counts as an admission. Children under 6 must travel in a child seat to the TISI standard, and anyone below 135 cm needs a restraint or a special seat — the fine reaches ฿2,000. Every passenger, including the rear row, wears a seatbelt. Parking against a red-and-white or yellow-and-white kerb is prohibited, and traffic-camera fines are issued to the car owner and re-invoiced to the renter.

Traffic in Thailand keeps to the left, and every car we hand over is right-hand drive. The surface brings its own tests: potholes, sometimes deep, standing water after rain, and oil patches left by refuse trucks.

When to book premium car rental in Koh Samui

The island has two seasons for a hire: the dry stretch from February to April and the heavy rain from October to December. Booking early matters most in the high season, 20 December to 31 March. Our two cars are the whole premium fleet here, so a date you want can be taken.

Rain, dry season and the months that change your route

October, November and December bring the year's heaviest rain: November alone averages 444.6 mm across 16.5 wet days, and October 294.9 mm across 15.8. February is the driest month at 64.3 mm over 4.3 days, with April next at 82.9 mm. Mid-October to early December is when roads flood most often, so plan shorter loops and avoid low-lying stretches after a downpour.

High season, low season and what it does to availability

• High season, 20 December to 31 March: the island's busiest window for car hire.
• Festive ferries, 30 December to 30 April: Raja Ferry puts on extra sailings when queues build, which matters if your plans include leaving the island with the car.

Booking windows and what to fix first

Two premium cars is a small fleet, so the earlier you fix dates, the better your choice of model. For the Christmas and New Year period we would book weeks ahead rather than days.
