How the hand-over is arranged

The delivery address, the date and the time are agreed with a manager before the booking is fixed. We deliver the car to any address in the Costa Brava towns we have a page for, and to Girona-Costa Brava Airport (GRO) and Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN). Nothing about the arrangement is fixed until both sides have said yes to the same address and the same hour.

Documents, deposit and what the agreement covers

• Driving licence: EU and EEA licences are valid in Spain as they stand while they have not expired, and no international driving permit is needed for them. Holders of licences from outside the EU and EEA are advised by the DGT to obtain an international driving permit before the trip and to carry it together with the passport and the national licence.
• Deposit and excess: the deposit, the excess and any delivery fee are set out in the rental agreement, so you see the figures before anything is signed.
• Fuel: the car is supplied with a full tank and must be returned with a full tank.
• Condition report: the consumer authority requires every scratch and dent to be entered in the agreement or the inspection sheet before you drive away, signed by both sides, with a copy kept by the renter.

What to check before you drive off

Walk round the Hyundai with the person who delivers it and compare the body to the inspection sheet — a mark that is not written down can later be charged to you, and the copy in your hand is what settles the argument. Start the engine, check the fuel gauge reads full and that the lights and indicators work. Two minutes at the kerb is cheaper than a damage claim three weeks later.

Driving a Hyundai car rental in Costa Brava

Speed limits are the ones to watch: 120 km/h on the autopista and autovía — the AP-7, A-2, C-32 and C-33 — and 90 km/h on the carretera convencional, which covers the GI-614, GI-682, C-260 and the rest of the coastal roads. The AP-7 corridor from the Catalan capital through Girona to the French border has been toll-free since 01.09.2021, and the C-32 Maresme barriers came down the same night.

ZBE de Girona and the DGT badge

The Zona de baixes emissions (ZBE) de Girona has been in force since 15.09.2025 and runs 7–20, Monday to Friday, on working days. It covers the area from la Devesa park to c. d'Emili Grahit and from c. del Riu Güell to c. del Carme and the Barri Vell. Cars without a DGT environmental badge that are not registered in Girona are the ones restricted; there is a 24-day-a-year allowance inside the restricted hours without a permit. Cameras read plates, so you never have to display the sticker. Spanish fleets carry the DGT badge, which means a Hyundai from us moves through the zone without restriction — worth knowing before you plan a day in the old town.

What to expect from the roads

• Autopista and autovía: 120 km/h on the AP-7, A-2, C-32 and C-33; these are the fast links between the resorts and the airports.
• Tolls: the AP-7 corridor from the Catalan capital to Girona and the French border and the C-32 Maresme are both free; the remaining Generalitat tolls (C-16 and the southern C-32) are not on Costa Brava routes.
• Cap de Creus access: the road from Cadaqués to the Far de Cap de Creus is closed to cars at set hours in season — daily 9:30–21:30 from July to 13 September, so check the calendar before driving out to the lighthouse.
• Fuel: Gasolina 95 E5 averages €1.94 a litre across the province of Girona, diesel (Gasóleo A) €1.922, with around 250 filling stations in the province.

• On the coast: petrol 95 runs €1.956 across 58 coastal stations, diesel €1.932 across 59 — a cent or two above the provincial average.

The tank rule on this page is full-to-full: the car is supplied with a full tank and must be returned with a full tank (lleno-lleno). Anything short of that — the missing fuel plus a refuelling service fee — is charged as set out in the rental agreement, and no pre-paid tank option exists here.

Parking in Girona and the resorts

Tolls are the good news. The AP-7 between Vila-seca and La Jonquera, the whole Barcelona–Girona–French border corridor, has been free since 01.09.2021, and the C-32 Maresme barriers between Montgat and Palafolls came down the same night. The C-33 Barcelona–Montmeló is free too. Of the Generalitat's remaining tolls, only the C-16 (Cadí, Vallvidrera, Sant Cugat–Terrassa–Manresa) and the southern C-32 towards Castelldefels, Sitges and El Vendrell still charge, and neither sits on a Costa Brava route. Catalonia keeps discussing a return of motorway charging through a vignette or a distance-based system, but no decision has been taken, so plan on the current free corridors and check the sign gantries as you join.
