Short hops around town

Errands, cafés and meetings across town without waiting for a taxi. A light scooter is easy to handle in traffic and needs little space to park.

Day trips out of town

Viewpoints, villages and quiet roads beyond the centre. A larger engine keeps pace on faster roads and carries a passenger more comfortably.

Renting a Scooter in Paris: 58 Models, Day and Long-Term Rates, Licence Rules

Fleet manager
Published Updated

Scooter rental in Paris starts from €2.71 a day on long-term contracts and from €15 a day for a short rental. Across the 43 models priced for short rentals, the middle sits at €55 a day. Below: how the price units differ, what engine size and drive type do to the rate, and what licence and deposit each class asks for.

How prices work: one day, several days or a long contract

The 58 scooter models collected on this page are priced in three different ways, and the same scooter can look cheap or expensive depending on which one you are reading.

The 24-hour rate for a single day

The plainest price is a one-day booking: you collect the scooter in the morning and return it the next morning. Booked for a single day in late October, a SYM Orbit 3 50 comes to €29.87, a Honda PCX 125 to €45.32 and a Vespa GTS 125 to €50.47. At the top end, a Honda X-ADV or a Yamaha TMAX 560 Tech Max costs €118.45 for the same day. A 24-hour tariff is also how most electric models are priced: the Segway E125S and the NIU NQi Sport both start at €45 for one day. These are the numbers to use when you need a scooter for a day of sightseeing or a single errand across the city.

Reduced daily rates for three to six days

Some rentals offer a lower daily rate for bookings of three to six days. On that scale a Yamaha Neos 50 4T starts at €30 a day, a Yamaha NMAX 125 at €35, a Yamaha XMAX 125 at €55 and a Yamaha TMAX 530 at €100. The difference between a one-day price and a multi-day rate is not always large for small scooters — the Neos 50 at €30 a day over several days sits almost level with the Orbit 3 50 at €29.87 for a single day — so compare the total for your exact dates rather than the headline figure. For a stay of a week, ask for the seven-day total directly: weekly and monthly modes exist on the market alongside daily and hourly ones.

Long-term contracts from €2.71 a day

The lowest figures on the page belong to long-term rentals, where the daily price is a starting rate for a contract of many weeks. Fifteen models are priced this way, from €2.71 to €14.51 a day:

Long-term starting rateModels
€2.71 a daySYM Fiddle III 50, SYM Fiddle III 125, SYM Orbit II 50, SYM e-Fiddle, SYM e-Mio
€4.10 a dayPiaggio Medley 125, SYM GTS 125, SYM CruiSym 125, SYM Jet 14 50, Suzuki Burgman 125, MBK Skycruiser 125
€6.47 a dayQuadro QV3, Quadro Qooder QV4
€6.50 a daySegway E300SE
€14.51 a dayKymco CV3

These rates are aimed at people who live or work in Paris for months, such as delivery riders, commuters and long-stay residents. They do not apply to a weekend booking, and a visitor who sees "from €2.71" should expect a one-day price closer to the €29.87–€45 range above.

Scooters from private owners

Private owners also rent out their own scooters. Their prices start low — a Piaggio Zip 50 4T and a Peugeot Vivacity from €15 a day — and run up to €100 a day for a BMW CE 04. In between sit models such as the Yamaha D'elight 125 and the Piaggio MP3 125 at €35, the Vespa GranTurismo 125 at €45 and the Piaggio X8 125 at €60. With a private rental, the deposit, the helmet and the handover terms are set by each owner, so read them before comparing the price with a rental company.

50 cc or 125 cc for city riding

Most scooters in Paris fall into two engine classes, and the choice between them decides both the price and the licence you need.

50 cc scooters: €15 to €40.17 a day

Ten 50 cc models appear on the page. Seven of them are priced for short rentals, from €15 to €40.17 a day, with the middle at €30. The cheapest are the Piaggio Zip 50 4T and the Peugeot Vivacity at €15; the Yamaha Neos 50 4T starts at €30, the SYM Orbit 3 50 at €29.87, the Piaggio Liberty 50 at €35.02, and the Vespa Primavera 50 and Vespa Sprint S 50 at €40.17. A 50 cc is light, easy to park and suited to short trips between neighbourhoods — the Marais to Montmartre, the Latin Quarter to the Eiffel Tower. It is the simplest class to ride, but also the slowest, so it is a poor fit for runs out to the airports or along fast arterial roads.

125 cc scooters: €35 to €60 a day

The 125 cc class is the largest on the page, with 18 models. Twelve of them are priced for short rentals, from €35 to €60 a day, with the middle at about €50. At the lower end sit the Yamaha NMAX 125, the Yamaha D'elight 125 and the Piaggio MP3 125 at €35; then come the Honda S-Wing 125 ABS at €39, the Honda PCX 125 at €45.32, the Vespa GranTurismo 125 at €45, the Aprilia Atlantic 125 at €50, the Honda Forza 125 and the Vespa GTS 125 at €50.47, and the Yamaha XMAX 125 and Piaggio Liberty 125 at €55. The top of the class is the Yamaha X-City 125 and the Piaggio X8 125 at €60. A 125 holds its own in traffic, carries a passenger more comfortably and copes with longer distances, which is why it is the default choice for most visitors who want to cross the city several times a day.

What the brand adds to the price

On the same booking dates, the difference between two scooters of the same class shows what you pay for the badge and the size. A Vespa Primavera 50 costs €40.17 for one day, against €29.87 for a SYM Orbit 3 50 — €10.30 more for the Italian design. Among 125s, a Honda Forza 125 costs €50.47 for the same day as a Honda PCX 125 at €45.32: €5.15 more for a larger body, more storage and a taller screen. In my view, a PCX or an NMAX is the sensible 125 for most city riding, and the extra for a Vespa or a Forza is worth paying only if comfort or style matters to you more than the daily total.

Maxi-scooters from 250 to 560 cc

Above 125 cc, the page lists ten petrol maxi-scooters, priced from €60 to €118.45 a day, with the middle at about €73.

Day rates by model

ModelEngineDay rate
Yamaha XMAX 250250 cc€60
Yamaha XMAX 400400 cc€65
Piaggio Beverly 400400 cc€65
Honda ADV 350350 cc€66.95
Honda Forza 350350 cc€66.95
Yamaha TMAX 500500 cc€80
BMW C 400 GT400 cc€85
Yamaha TMAX 530530 cc€100
Honda X-ADV—€118.45
Yamaha TMAX 560 Tech Max560 cc€118.45

Why the TMAX range spans €80 to €118.45

The Yamaha TMAX appears three times, and the spread shows how much age and generation weigh. A TMAX 500 built in 2010 starts at €80 a day, a TMAX 530 at €100, and a 2023 TMAX 560 Tech Max at €118.45. The same applies to the Honda X-ADV, also a 2023 machine at €118.45. The most expensive maxi costs almost twice the cheapest — €118.45 against €60 for a Yamaha XMAX 250 — and for a two-up ride around the city the XMAX 250 or the Forza 350 does the job at roughly half the price of a TMAX.

When a maxi makes sense

A maxi-scooter pays off when the plan goes beyond the city centre: a day trip to Versailles or Giverny, a ride to the Chevreuse valley, or long stretches with a passenger and luggage. The larger engine, the bigger seat and the wind protection matter over distance. For short hops inside Paris the extra weight works against you in tight streets and on parking, and a 125 is usually the easier choice. Maxi-scooters also need a motorcycle licence, which is covered in the licence section below.

Electric models and their range

Twelve electric scooters are on the page, from small city models in the 50 cc class to electric maxi-scooters.

Day rates for electric scooters

Nine electric models are priced for short rentals, from €29.87 to €100 a day, with the middle at €55. The Segway E110S is the cheapest at €29.87 for one day. The Segway E125S, the NIU NQi Sport and the BMW CE 02 start at €45; the Segway E250S at €55; the Silence S01 Connected, the Bolide E-Trail and the BMW C-Evolution at €65; and the BMW CE 04 at €100. On long-term contracts, the SYM e-Fiddle and SYM e-Mio start from €2.71 a day and the Segway E300SE from €6.50.

Range: from 80 to 160 km

For an electric scooter, the range on one charge matters more than the price. For the models where it is stated:

  • Segway E125S: 80 km.
  • BMW C-Evolution: 90–120 km, up to 160 km in the Long Range version.
  • Segway E250S: 105 km.
  • Silence S01 Connected: 120 km.
  • Bolide E-Trail: 160 km.

Eighty kilometres is enough for a full day of riding inside Paris, where most trips are a few kilometres long. A day trip outside the city on a smaller electric model needs planning around a charge; for that, a model with 120–160 km of range is the safer choice.

Electric class and licence

An electric scooter is classed by its power, not its engine size, and the class decides the licence. The Segway E110S, Segway E125S, NIU NQi Sport, SYM e-Fiddle and SYM e-Mio are in the 50 cc class. The Segway E300SE, Segway E250S, Silence S01 Connected and Bolide E-Trail are in the 125 cc class. The BMW C-Evolution and BMW CE 04 are electric maxi-scooters. Before booking, check which class your chosen model belongs to — riding a 125-class electric scooter needs the same licence as a petrol 125.

Three-wheelers and tilting scooters

Eight models on the page have more than two wheels. They are the choice for riders who want extra stability on wet cobbles and in stop-and-go traffic.

Day rates for three-wheelers

Five of them are priced for short rentals, from €35 to €85 a day, with the middle at €55. The Piaggio MP3 125 starts at €35 and the Yamaha Tricity 125 at €40; above them come the Piaggio MP3 300 HPE at €55, the Piaggio MP3 400 Sport at €71.07 and the Piaggio MP3 500 at €85. On long-term contracts, the three-wheel Quadro QV3 and the four-wheel Quadro Qooder QV4 start from €6.47 a day, and the Kymco CV3 three-wheel maxi from €14.51.

Who a three-wheeler suits

A tilting three-wheeler leans into bends like a normal scooter but has two front wheels, which gives more grip under braking and on the slippery surfaces common in old Paris streets. It suits riders who are returning to two wheels after a long break, or who simply feel uneasy on a light scooter in heavy traffic. The trade-off is weight and price: an MP3 500 at €85 costs more than most petrol maxi-scooters, and the Tricity 125 at €40 is €5 more than the two-wheel NMAX 125. For the larger three-wheelers, the licence rules differ from two-wheelers, so confirm the required category for the specific model when you book.

Licence, age and deposit

The rules below are those set by Paris rentals for scooters; each company applies its own version, so the exact age or deposit can differ from one booking to another.

Which licence for which class

  • 50 cc and 50-class electric: a moped licence — the AM category or the French BSR certificate.
  • 125 cc and 125-class electric: a car licence (B) held for at least two years plus a 7-hour training course, or a motorcycle licence of category A1, A2 or A.
  • Maxi-scooters above 125 cc: an A2 or A licence; some rentals ask for an A2 or A licence held for at least two years.

Ten of the 58 models can be ridden on a B licence, and four need an A2 or A licence. A car licence on its own, without the two-year history and the training course, is not enough for a 125.

Minimum age

Age limits are set by each rental. For four models the minimum age is 18, for five it is 20, and one rental asks for 19 for a 125 cc on a B licence with training. For a 50 cc, one rental sets the minimum at 25. Riders under 25 should check the age rule for the exact model before paying.

Deposit and excess

A scooter rental in Paris almost always comes with a deposit blocked on a bank card. Among the 16 models with a stated deposit, the amount ranges from €500 to €2,500, and the most common figure is €1,200, for five models. At one rental the deposit equals the excess: if the scooter is stolen or damaged in an accident where you are at fault, that amount is what you pay. For 50 cc and 125 cc scooters there, it is €1,000 to €1,500. On hourly and minute-based plans, the basic excess can be €900, falling to €99 with an extended cover option. Ask which amount is blocked on your card, how long the block lasts and whether a lower excess is available, before you compare two daily prices.

Key points before you book

Six figures to keep in mind

  • Short-rental price: 43 models start between €15 and €118.45 a day, with the middle at €55.
  • Long-term price: 15 models start from €2.71 to €14.51 a day, but only on contracts of many weeks.
  • Engine class: 50 cc models start from €15 to €40.17 a day, 125 cc models from €35 to €60, maxi-scooters from €60 to €118.45.
  • Electric range: from 80 km on a Segway E125S to 160 km on a Bolide E-Trail.
  • Licence: a 125 is open to car-licence holders with two years' history and a 7-hour course; a maxi needs A2 or A.
  • Deposit: from €500 to €2,500, most often €1,200.

Matching the scooter to the plan

For a few short rides between sights, a 50 cc or a 50-class electric scooter for €30–€45 a day is enough. For crossing the city several times a day or riding with a passenger, a 125 such as the NMAX or the PCX for €35–€45 is the balanced choice. For day trips outside Paris, a maxi-scooter or an electric model with 120 km of range or more justifies its higher price. And for a stay of several months, a long-term contract changes the economics entirely. Whatever you pick, line up three things for each quote — the total for your dates, the deposit and the licence required — and the cheapest daily price will rarely turn out to be the only thing that matters.

FAQ

How much does it cost to rent a scooter in Paris?

For a short rental, 43 scooter models start between €15 and €118.45 a day, and the middle of the range is €55. A 50 cc scooter starts from €15 to €40.17 a day, a 125 cc from €35 to €60, and a maxi-scooter from €60 to €118.45.

Why do some scooters show a price of €2.71 a day?

That is a long-term rate. Fifteen models, such as the SYM Fiddle III and the SYM e-Fiddle, start from €2.71 to €14.51 a day, but only on contracts of many weeks. For a single day, expect a price closer to €30–€45 for a small scooter.

Can I ride a 125 cc scooter in Paris with a car licence?

Yes, if your car licence (B) has been held for at least two years and you have completed a 7-hour training course. Otherwise you need a motorcycle licence of category A1, A2 or A. A car licence alone, without the history and the course, is not enough.

What licence do I need for a 50 cc scooter?

A moped licence: the AM category or the French BSR certificate. The same applies to electric scooters in the 50 cc class, such as the Segway E125S or the NIU NQi Sport.

What licence do I need for a maxi-scooter like the TMAX?

An A2 or A motorcycle licence. Some rentals ask for an A2 or A licence held for at least two years and set the minimum age at 20.

How old do I have to be to rent a scooter in Paris?

It depends on the rental and the model. For four models the minimum age is 18, for five it is 20, and one rental asks for 19 for a 125 cc on a car licence with training. For a 50 cc, one rental sets the minimum at 25.

How big is the deposit for a scooter rental?

Among the 16 models with a stated deposit, it ranges from €500 to €2,500, most often €1,200. The deposit is blocked on a bank card. At one rental it equals the excess, €1,000 to €1,500 for 50 cc and 125 cc scooters, which is what you pay if the scooter is stolen or damaged in an accident where you are at fault.

How far can an electric scooter go on one charge?

From 80 km on a Segway E125S to 160 km on a Bolide E-Trail. The Segway E250S covers 105 km, the Silence S01 Connected 120 km and the BMW C-Evolution 90–120 km, or up to 160 km in the Long Range version.

Is a Vespa much more expensive than other scooters?

A little. For the same day in October, a Vespa Primavera 50 costs €40.17 against €29.87 for a SYM Orbit 3 50, and a Vespa GTS 125 costs €50.47 against €45.32 for a Honda PCX 125.
