Rates for a 7-seater run from ฿1,200 to ฿2,200 a day, and the class you pick sets the price. Minivans open the range at ฿1,200, SUVs and 4x4s start at ฿1,700. Longer bookings are charged as daily rate multiplied out.

Choosing between an MPV and an SUV for your 7-seater rental

Both classes seat seven and both come with an automatic gearbox, so the choice comes down to how you will use the car. MPVs are petrol, mostly front-wheel drive and start at ฿1,200 a day. SUV & 4x4 models are diesel, rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, and start at ฿1,700.

MPVs for families and luggage

Six of our MPVs are front-wheel drive petrol cars from ฿1,400 to ฿1,800 a day; the seventh, the Toyota Avanza at ฿1,200, is rear-wheel drive. The Avanza, the Toyota Sienta at ฿1,400, the Honda Mobilio at ฿1,450 and the Honda BR-V at ฿1,500 all run a 1.5 L engine with 104–121 hp. Above them sit the Mitsubishi Xpander and the Toyota Veloz at ฿1,700 and ฿1,800, and the Toyota Innova at ฿1,800 with a 2.0 L unit and 172 hp.

SUVs and 4x4 for diesel and longer trips

The Isuzu MU-X opens the group at ฿1,700 with a 3.0 L, 190 hp engine and rear-wheel drive. The Ford Everest at ฿1,800 adds four-wheel drive and 207 hp from 2.0 L, while the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and the Toyota Fortuner both sit at ฿2,200 with 2.4 L and 2.8 L engines. The 4x4 does not permit leaving the road — that is written into the rental agreement — so treat it as confidence on a wet ring road rather than access to jungle tracks.

We deliver the car to any address on Koh Samui and to Samui International Airport (USM). The island is 228.7 km² and the ring road runs 51 km around it, so a hand-over point on the far side is a matter of timing, not of possibility. Delivery elsewhere is arranged case by case and is not promised on the site.

What is agreed when booking

What to have ready at the hand-over

The tank should be full and the car clean — that is how every vehicle in our fleet leaves us. The square blue tax stamp on the windscreen should show the current year in the Buddhist calendar, which runs 543 years ahead of the Gregorian one — on a rental car it has to be valid.

Driving a 7-seaters car rental in Koh Samui around the island

A 7-seater changes how much of the island you actually see: the ring road runs 51 km around the coast and links Nathon, Lipa Noi, Lamai, Chaweng, Bophut and Maenam, so every resort sits on one continuous loop.

Road conditions to expect

• Flooding: from mid-October to early December the island takes its heaviest rainfall of the year, and low sections of road hold standing water.
• Oil and debris: refuse trucks leave oil patches on the road.

Documents, insurance and rules for a 7-seater rental

A foreign visitor driving on Koh Samui needs a home driving licence plus an International Driving Permit issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention. An insurer may also refuse a claim if the permit is missing. Citizens of ASEAN countries drive on their national licence, no permit required. Beyond the paperwork, the rules that matter most on a seven-seater are the ones about passengers: everyone wears a seatbelt, including the third row, and every child under 6 travels in a child seat built to the TISI standard. The child-seat rule runs on the 13th amendment to the Land Traffic Act 1979, published in the Royal Gazette in May 2022 and in force since 17 August 2023, and the fine is up to ฿2,000.

What you need at hand-over

• Passport: the main driver's passport, valid and carried on the road, is the first document in the set.
• Home driving licence: a full licence from your own country.
• International Driving Permit: the 1949 Geneva Convention booklet, carried alongside the national licence, never instead of it.
• Bank card: a card in the main driver's name is used for the security hold; the amount is set out in the rental agreement.
• Minimum age: the minimum driver age is 21; conditions for drivers under 25 and for premium classes are set out in the rental agreement.

Our own paperwork is straightforward. Since 30 December 2025 a car rental agreement in Thailand is a contract controlled by the OCPB: it is written in Thai, and every fee and penalty is disclosed in it. Read that document before you drive off — the excess and the terms of the insurance sit there, not in a conversation. Compulsory motor insurance, Por Ror Bor, covers injury to third parties and is attached to every registered car, while first-class cover for damage to the car itself is set out in the agreement. The car also carries a square blue hologram tax sticker on the windscreen, with the year in the Buddhist calendar; a rental car should have the current one.

Speed limits on the island are low — 80 km/h in built-up areas and 90–120 km/h outside them — and the drink-drive limit is 50 mg% in blood, dropping to 20 mg% for drivers under 20 and holders of temporary licences. Refusing a breath test counts as an admission.

Day trips the ring road covers

• Bophut and Fisherman's Village: the walking-street quarter on the north coast, an easy evening run from Chaweng or Maenam.
• Big Buddha and Bang Rak: the 12 m Wat Phra Yai statue on Ko Phan, reached by a causeway off the north-east shore.
• Nathon and Lipa Noi pier: the west-coast town and the ferry pier, useful if part of the group arrives by sea.

Ferries and longer trips off the island

Ferries from Lipa Noi to Koh Phangan take about 1 h 30 min, and Raja Ferry runs the Don Sak–Lipa Noi crossing hourly from 05:00 to 19:00, 15 sailings a day. Taking a hired car across is not automatic: most companies on the island do not allow the vehicle to leave Samui, and where it is allowed it has to be agreed with a manager before you book. If a crossing is part of your plan, raise it at booking rather than at the pier.

What the car is genuinely good at

• Airport runs: Samui International Airport (USM) sits in Bo Phut, about 2 km north of Chaweng, so a group arriving together clears the terminal and reaches its hotel in one car.
• Beach hopping: seven seats and a boot mean the group can move between Chaweng, Lamai and Maenam without splitting up.
• Full-day loops: the 51 km ring road is comfortably done in a day with stops, and a full tank is what the car comes with.
