• Seats: our fleet splits into four- and five-seat cars, so a family of five cannot use a four-seat Fiat 500 or Kia Picanto at any price.
• Fuel type: petrol dominates the fleet; hybrid appears on the Toyota Yaris and Jeep Renegade, electric on four cars — the running cost differs, the daily rate does not tell you which.
• Transmission: automatic is limited to the Electric class plus the Toyota Yaris and Jeep Renegade, so a driver who cannot work a manual is choosing from a much shorter list.
• Trip length: a three-day city break and a three-week stay pull in opposite directions on class, because the weekly and monthly multipliers reward keeping one car longer.

Economy holds 16 cars from €13, Electric 4 from €22, Crossover 3 from €33, Convertibles 1 from €30. A Convertible at €30 is the only open-top car on the list, so if you want one, the booking has to be agreed early; we cannot hold a single car for two travellers at once.

Fuel, parking and the low-emission zone are the three running costs that decide what a cheap car hire in Valencia actually costs you over a week.

Petrol and diesel prices at the pump

Petrol in the municipality averaged €1.978 a litre for Gasolina 95 E5 across 62 filling stations, with a median of €2.039 and a range from €1.74 to €2.089; diesel came in at €1.923 average across 63 stations. Widen the net to the whole province and Gasolina 95 E5 falls to €1.915 across 602 stations, so a full tank bought outside the ring road is measurably cheaper. Our own rule is full-to-full: the car leaves with a full tank and comes back full, with no pre-paid or full-to-empty alternative on offer. The cheapest habit is to refuel on the way back in rather than hunting for a station at hand-over time — the missing fuel plus a refuelling service fee is charged as set out in the rental agreement.

Where to park without overspending

• Zona azul centro y ensanches: Ciutat Vella, L'Eixample and Extramurs cap stays at 2 hours, charging €0.55 up to 25 minutes, €1.00 for 60 minutes and €1.70 for 120 minutes, billed in 5-minute steps.
• Zona azul resto ciudad: the outer neighbourhoods run the same 2-hour limit at €0.30, €0.80 and €1.50 for the same three durations.
• Zona naranja: mixed resident-and-rotation bays cost non-residents €1.10, €2.10 or €3.30 for 25, 60 and 120 minutes, enforced in Ciutat Vella Monday to Friday 9:00–20:00 and in Ruzafa, El Botànic and La Roqueta 9:00–19:00, with Saturday 9:00–15:00 everywhere.
• Zona verde: resident-only bays, priced at €86.20 for 12 months under the resident tariff.

The ZBE València low-emission zone

The ZBE València (Zona de Bajas Emisiones) covers 27.8 km² inside Ronda Nord, the avenidas de Tarongers and Serradora, and Bulevard Sud, and it is phased in rather than switched on at once. From 01.12.2025 to 31.12.2026 the restriction hits only category A vehicles — petrol registered before 2001 and diesel before 2006 — that are registered outside the province of Valencia. From 01.01.2027 it extends to category A cars registered outside the city, and from 01.01.2028 to every category A car including residents'. Cars carrying Spanish plates and a DGT sticker (B, C, ECO or 0) sit outside the restriction, since only category A is targeted, and the DANA moratorium keeps unstickered cars of owners registered in flood-affected municipalities exempt until 31.12.2027, with pedanías such as El Palmar, Pinedo and Castellar-Oliveral getting until 31.12.2028.

• Sagunto, Xàtiva, Cullera and Gandia: Roman theatre, castle and coast within an hour; the AP-7 Salou–Alicante stretch has been toll-free since 01.01.2020, so the run costs fuel only.

ZBE València runs around the clock, 365 days, across 27.8 km² — but cars carrying a DGT sticker (B, C, ECO or 0) sit outside the restriction, which only bites on category A vehicles.
