Missing a turn on the pair costs you a full loop, not a U-turn, so read the signs a junction ahead. Speed limits are 80 km/h inside built-up areas — Pattaya City is named as one in the 1969 law — 90 km/h outside them and 120 km/h on Motorway 7, and signs can lower any of those. Fines run up to ฿1,000, usually settled at ฿500 on the receipt, and on M7 the 120 km/h limit is enforced primarily by speed cameras.

For the out-of-town days, the road network around the city sorts itself into three habits.

• Motorway 7: the Bangkok–Chonburi–Pattaya motorway, 125.865 km of eight lanes at 120 km/h, tolled at 25 ฿ from Lat Krabang up to 105 ฿ at Pong, and 105–130 ฿ for the whole run from Bangkok.
• Coming into the city: the Pattaya Motorway Spur leaves M7 at Mab Prachan Interchange, follows road 3240 through Nong Prue and meets Sukhumvit at Pattaya Interchange; further south a second spur drops to Na Jomtien.
• Avoiding the toll: Hwy 34 from Bang Na to Trat, then the Chonburi bypass and Hwy 3 Sukhumvit through Bang Saen and Bang Phra — free, and useful if you would rather not stop at a booth.
• M9 connection: Motorway 9, the outer Bangkok ring, joins M7 at Thap Chang Interchange and uses M-Flow camera billing instead of barriers, mostly on M9 itself.

Rules on the road, and who pays the fine
