Georgia's limits are 60 km/h inside built-up areas, 20 km/h in residential zones, 90 km/h outside built-up areas for category B, 110 km/h on motorways and 80 km/h with a light trailer. Seat belts are compulsory for the driver and all front passengers; rear belts are not required by law. A phone is allowed only through a headset or speakerphone, with both hands on the wheel. Children under three must travel in the back in a child seat or restraint matched to height and weight, and a child under six may not be left alone in a parked car. The alcohol limit is 0.3 ‰. Winter tyres are mandatory from 1 December to 1 March, and in government-defined zones chains on at least two front wheels may be required in particular weather. Because the Fit is petrol, the cheaper pump price applies to every tank you buy.

Stepantsminda is 153 km away, at the far end of the 139 km Georgian Military Road that runs from Mtskheta to the Russian border; the upper sections see landslides and snow. The Jvari Pass is the highest point on that route at 2,379 m. Winter tyres are mandatory from 1 December to 1 March, and chains on at least two front wheels are required in government-defined zones during particular weather.

Borjomi is 160 km away and Bakuriani 184 km, Vardzia 225 km. All of Georgia's international and domestic roads remain free of charge, with no vignettes and no transponders, so a long day trip costs fuel and nothing in tolls. The 52 km Rikoti section of the E60, with its 51 tunnels and 97 bridges, is also free.

Crossing a border in the Honda Fit

As of 05.09.2026 there is no compulsory third-party motor insurance for owners of Georgian-registered cars: the government put its introduction into the autumn session legislative work plan, with no date named.
