Daily car rental
A week of errands across the Greater Toronto Area starts with the right car, and daily car rental in Toronto from Rent-Trip puts 24 vehicles at your disposal from C$ 38 a day, with weekly bookings from C$ 228 and monthly from C$ 798. We deliver the car to any address in Toronto, including Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) and John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM).
What daily car rental in Toronto includes with us
That covers the whole fleet of 24 vehicles: Economy hatchbacks like the Mitsubishi Mirage and Toyota Yaris, Crossover models such as the Buick Encore and Mitsubishi RVR, five SUVs, four Premium cars, one Sedan, two Comfort cars and a single Minivan. Every one of them is automatic, so no clutch work on city streets.
Delivery across the city and to the airports
We deliver to any address in Toronto and to Pearson (YYZ), Billy Bishop (YTZ) and Hamilton (YHM).
- Union Station: hand-over at the station works for arrivals who want the car before checking in.
- Mississauga, North York, Scarborough, Vaughan: all inside the delivery area, no separate arrangement needed.
- Delivery outside these places: arranged case by case and not promised on the site, so ask before you plan around it.
The delivery address, the date and the time are agreed with a manager before the booking is fixed — name them early, because a hand-over nobody has confirmed does not happen.
Full-to-full fuel and a clean car at hand-over
The car comes clean with a full tank and must go back full. That is the only fuel arrangement we offer — no pre-paid tank, no full-to-empty option — so a refill before return is part of your own budget. If the tank comes back short, the missing fuel and a refuelling service fee are charged as set out in the rental agreement. The single hybrid, a Toyota Camry, stretches a tank further in stop-start traffic.

The cheapest and the most expensive car for a day
The Mitsubishi Mirage is the cheapest car on the page at C$ 38 a day, and the Nissan Sentra is the most expensive at C$ 70.
Seats, fuel and gearbox across the fleet
- All 24 cars are automatic — there is no manual gearbox anywhere on this page, so no separate booking step is needed for that.
- Three cars have eight seats — the Honda Odyssey, Honda Pilot and Hyundai Palisade — and one has seven, the Acura MDX.
- Body styles break down as 8 Crossovers, 8 SUVs, 4 Hatchbacks, 3 Sedans and 1 MPV, across 12 brands.
Choosing a car for daily car rental in Toronto
Three things decide the car: how many people travel, where the day goes, and how much luggage comes along.
City driving and parking on a daily rental
For downtown streets the Economy and Crossover cars are the easiest fit — 4 to 5 seats and front-wheel drive. A Mitsubishi Mirage at C$ 38 a day or a Buick Encore at C$ 49 parks in a tight underground bay without a second attempt, and both sip regular petrol at about C$1.75 a litre, October 2026. Highway 407 ETR is rarely the useful route inside the core, but if the day runs north through Vaughan or across to Mississauga, the toll is charged per kilometre for light vehicles, from 49.93¢ to 119.21¢, plus a C$1 trip toll charge.
Group trips and eight-seat options
Three eight-seat cars — the Honda Odyssey, Honda Pilot and Hyundai Palisade — cover a full group. The Odyssey is the only MPV on the page, and its lower load floor makes a real difference when four suitcases and a stroller go in at once; the Pilot and Palisade sit higher and trade that ease for all-wheel drive. All three run petrol with automatic gearboxes, so no one in the party needs to think about a manual. Seven-seat capacity appears once, on the Acura MDX in Premium, which suits a family of six that wants the third row only occasionally.
Premium and hybrid picks for longer days
The Mercedes-Benz GLA and Acura RDX sit in Premium from C$ 59, and the Toyota Camry is the only hybrid here. The Camry pairs a 2.5 L hybrid powertrain with front-wheel drive and returns its best figures in stop-start traffic — exactly the pattern of a day spent between Downtown Toronto, North York and Scarborough. The GLA and RDX bring all-wheel drive and 221 and 272 hp respectively, which matters more on a winter run out of the city than on a flat commute. Premium is not about badge alone: the Acura MDX adds a third row, the Volvo XC60 stays at five seats. If the plan includes a border crossing, check the class with the manager when booking — most cars can go, but written permission comes from the rental point.
Six or seven: Premium MDX for the occasional third row, or an eight-seat SUV if everyone travels together daily.
Renting a car in Toronto daily for a week or a month
The daily rate applies to each rental day (how days are counted is set out in the rental agreement), and longer bookings follow two fixed multipliers: a week is worked out as the daily rate times six, a month as the daily rate times twenty-one.
How weekly and monthly rates are worked out
A week of the daily rental is priced from C$ 228, which is the daily rate multiplied by six, and a month from C$ 798, the daily rate multiplied by twenty-one. The multipliers are the same for every one of the 24 cars on the page, so the arithmetic scales with the class you pick: an Economy booking and an eight-seat SUV both take the same weekly and monthly factor, only the base day rate differs. Rent-Trip confirms the length of the booking together with the delivery address, date and time, and all four are fixed before the reservation is locked in.
When a longer booking makes sense
Airport arrival and departure: a week or a month handles both ends of a trip, with the car delivered to Pearson (YYZ), Billy Bishop (YTZ) or Hamilton (YHM).
What to check before you confirm a long booking
Longer bookings are also where the practical details bite: the car is supplied with a full tank and must go back full, with the missing fuel and a refuelling service fee set out in the rental agreement, and no pre-paid or full-to-empty option exists on the site. The deposit, the excess and any delivery fee are likewise set out in the rental agreement rather than quoted on this page.
Documents and driving rules for daily car rental in Toronto
Licence rules for visitors
- Over three months: a visitor from another country staying more than 3 months needs an International Driver's Permit (IDP) from their own country — it cannot be obtained in Canada, so arrange it before you fly.
- Minimum age by law: the legal minimum age for a driver in Ontario is 16; the minimum age for our rental, any young-driver surcharge and the cards we accept are agreed when booking.
- What travels with the car: the driver must carry insurance for the vehicle and the original or an exact copy of the ownership permit.
Rules of the road and penalties
Ontario's alcohol limits are strict and tiered. Criminal liability starts at 0.08 (80 mg per 100 ml of blood). The 0.05–0.079 band is the warn range: a first offence brings an immediate 7-day licence suspension, an 8-hour course and a C$ 250 fine. Drivers 21 and under, and holders of G1 or G2 licences, must show zero.
Speed limits on provincial highways are not uniform. The pilot began on 26.09.2019 on the QEW between Hamilton and St. Catharines, on Highway 402 and on Highway 417; elsewhere the posted signs govern. Read the signs rather than assume, because the change applies stretch by stretch.
Winter tyres are not compulsory in Ontario. In Quebec they are mandatory from 1 December to 15 March for vehicles registered in Quebec, rental cars included, with a fine of C$ 200–300; cars plated in other provinces fall outside that rule. If a winter trip crosses into Quebec, check the plate before you plan the route.
Tolls, borders and fuel
Highway 407 ETR is the toll road to know: it is cashless, and for light vehicles in 2026 the rate runs from 49.93¢ to 119.21¢ per km depending on zone and time of entry, plus a C$ 1 trip toll charge. Without a transponder, camera charges are C$ 5.30 per trip and C$ 5 a month as an account fee.
Crossing into the United States is possible with most cars hired in Canada, but only with permission from the specific branch; restrictions apply to some classes, and driving out without written permission breaks both the agreement and the insurance. Carry your passport at the border. Fuel works on a full-to-full basis: the car leaves clean with a full tank and comes back full, otherwise the missing fuel and a refuelling service fee are charged as set out in the rental agreement.
On the road with daily car rental in Toronto, tolls and winter
Fuel: what a day actually costs at the pump
Petrol in Toronto sat at about C$ 1.76 a litre in October 2026, with diesel at C$ 2.61 — the gasoline figure is the one that matters for our fleet, since 23 of the 24 cars run on petrol and only the Toyota Camry is a hybrid. A compact like the Mitsubishi Mirage, rated at 1.2 L, will not move the needle much over a day of city errands, while the 3.8 L Hyundai Palisade will.
- Highway 407 ETR: the toll road; for light vehicles in 2026 the rate runs from 49.93¢ to 119.21¢ a kilometre depending on the zone and the time you enter.
- No transponder: a camera charge of C$ 5.30 per trip and a C$ 5 monthly account fee apply instead.
- Who pays: not stated here — tolls, zone charges and any penalty notices are agreed when booking.
Winter tyres and where the rules change
Winter tyres are not mandatory in Ontario, so a daily hire here is not obliged to carry them. Cross into Quebec, though, and the rule flips: winter tyres are required there from 1 December to 15 March for vehicles registered in Quebec, rentals included, with fines of C$ 200–300. Cars plated in other provinces fall outside that requirement.
Crossing into the United States
Most cars rented in Canada can be taken into the United States, but only with permission from the specific rental point, and some classes — exotics and large vans — are excluded. Driving across without written permission breaks the agreement and the insurance, and you will need your passport at the border.
Airport arrivals and city stays with daily car rental in Toronto
Both are daily car rental in Toronto, and both are settled the same way — the class, the delivery address, the date and the time are agreed with a manager before the booking is fixed.
Picking up after a flight
- Pearson (YYZ): the largest of the three airports we deliver to, 36 km by road from the core and roughly 38 minutes without traffic — build the hand-over time around that gap, not around the landing time.
- Billy Bishop (YTZ): 6 km by road and about 12 minutes from Downtown Toronto, which makes it the quicker of the two city airports to reach.
- Hamilton (YHM): 86.7 km by road and about 73 minutes out, so a Hamilton arrival suits a renter heading west rather than into the core.
A day of errands inside the city
An Economy hatchback covers that loop on regular petrol at about C$ 1.75 a litre, October 2026, and parks in the tightest underground bay. If the day includes collecting furniture or a group, the eight-seat cars — the Honda Odyssey, Honda Pilot and Hyundai Palisade — carry people and load at once, though they sit at the upper end of the range.
Comparing the classes for daily car rental in Toronto
Class decides more than the badge on the bonnet: it sets the seat count, the drivetrain and how the car behaves on a given day.
What separates a Crossover from an SUV
The Buick Encore at C$ 49 and the Mitsubishi RVR at C$ 53 are Crossovers with 1.2 L and 2.0 L units; the Volkswagen Tiguan at C$ 58 is an SUV with all-wheel drive and 184 hp.
Premium, Comfort and Sedan — where the money goes
Premium starts at C$ 59 with the Acura RDX and Mercedes-Benz GLA, both all-wheel drive, and Comfort sits at C$ 68–C$ 70 with the Volkswagen Jetta and Nissan Sentra. The Camry hybrid is the odd one out: it suits long urban days better than either.
What to look at in the agreement for daily car rental in Toronto
The paperwork holds the numbers this page cannot show — the security hold, the insurance deductible, any charge for bringing the car out, and the fuel line if the gauge reads low at return. Settle those before the reservation is locked in, not on the day the keys change hands.
Security hold, deductible and bringing the car out
Fuel follows one rule only: the car leaves full and must come back full, and whatever is missing plus a service charge for refilling is billed under the contract. Nothing else is on offer — no tank paid up front, no return-it-empty arrangement.
Dates, times and giving the car back
Where the car is handed over, which day and what hour are settled with a manager as the reservation is confirmed, and the closing date and hour belong in that same exchange.
Common mistakes with daily car rental in Toronto
Booking the class before the dates
A week of daily car rental in Toronto starts from C$ 228 and a month from C$ 798, and both scale with the class you choose.
Assuming a car will still be free
The eight-seat cars number three and the seven-seat one is a single Acura MDX, so groups should settle the class before the dates are locked.
Leaving the airport run to the last minute
Hamilton (YHM) is 86.7 km and about 73 minutes by road, and Pearson (YYZ) is 36 km and roughly 38 minutes without traffic. Name the flight, the terminal and the address together, and give the manager room to plan the hand-over around the drive rather than around the landing.
