Which Nissan suits a family of five

For five people we have two hybrid SUVs — the Qashqai and the X-Trail. The X-Trail adds a third row and an automatic: 1.5 L, 163 hp, front-wheel drive or AWD, from €54 per day, seven seats in total. Seat count, not class, decides family fit — the 7-seat X-Trail sits in the same SUV class as the 5-seat Qashqai. If the five of you travel light and stay inside the city, the Micra and the Juke also carry five, at €13 and €35.

The GT-R Black Edition — when a 570 hp coupe makes sense

The GT-R Black Edition is the only Sports-class Nissan: 4 seats, AWD, 570 hp, €756 per day. Under the bonnet sits a 3.8 L petrol engine paired with an automatic gearbox.

Weekly is daily × 6 and monthly is daily × 21, so the per-day figure falls as the booking stretches. A fortnight on the Leaf, for instance, is priced as two weeks rather than fourteen separate days, which is the same arithmetic the manager will run through with you at booking. The GT-R sits in a band of its own: at €756 a day it costs more for one day than the Micra costs for a month.

What the price includes and what is agreed at booking

The car comes with a full tank and is returned full-to-full. That is the fuel policy on every Nissan we hand over — there is no pre-paid tank option and no full-to-empty arrangement, so you fill up before return and keep the receipt.

What Spanish driving asks of a gearbox

In stop-start city traffic a manual means a lot of clutch work in a short distance. The automatic Nissans are also the safer pick if you are arriving from a country where you passed your test on an automatic licence and have never learned to work a third pedal. Tell the manager which gearbox you can legally and comfortably drive when you agree the booking, and the model list narrows before you commit to anything.

Nissan Leaf — the electric option

The Nissan Leaf is our only fully electric Nissan: 150 hp, automatic, front-wheel drive, five seats, €30 per day. It suits a day of short city runs — the airport, a Ruzafa lunch, the City of Arts and Sciences and back.

Nissan Qashqai and X-Trail — hybrid without the charging plan

The Qashqai is the five-seat SUV at €44 per day, manual, 140 hp; the X-Trail is the seven-seat SUV at €54 per day, automatic, 163 hp, with front-wheel drive or AWD.

• ZBE València: the low-emission zone covers 27.8 km² inside the Ronda Nord, avenidas de Tarongers and Serradora and the Bulevard Sud, and only category A cars without a DGT sticker are restricted.

The low-emission zone and which Nissans are exempt

ZBE València (Zona de Bajas Emisiones) covers 27.8 km² inside Ronda Nord, avenidas de Tarongers and Serradora, and Bulevard Sud, and it runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Only category A vehicles are restricted — petrol cars registered before 2001 and diesel before 2006 — and the rollout is staged: from 01.12.2025 to 31.12.2026 the ban hits stickerless cars registered outside the province of Valencia, through 2027 it extends to those registered outside the city, and from 01.01.2028 it covers every category A car including residents'. Ask the manager to show you the sticker at hand-over.

Parking: blue, orange and green zones

• Zona azul centro y ensanches: Ciutat Vella, L'Eixample and Extramurs, all drivers, two hours maximum, 1.00 EUR for 60 minutes and 1.70 EUR for 120.
• Zona azul resto ciudad: the rest of the city, two hours maximum, 0.80 EUR for 60 minutes and 1.50 EUR for 120.
• Zona naranja: mixed resident-and-rotation parking, non-residents only during rotation hours, 2.10 EUR for 60 minutes and 3.30 EUR for 120.
• Rotation hours: Ciutat Vella Monday to Friday 9:00–20:00; Ruzafa, El Botànic and La Roqueta 9:00–19:00; Saturday everywhere 9:00–15:00. Outside those hours the bay is residents-only.
• Zona verde: residents with a permit only, so a hire car cannot use it — leave it for the blue zone and walk.

Fuel and the roads out of the city

Gasolina 95 E5 averages 1.978 EUR a litre across the 62 filling stations in the municipality, with a median of 2.039 EUR and a spread from 1.74 to 2.089 EUR; diesel (Gasóleo A) sits at 1.923 EUR on average. The AP-7 (Autopista del Mediterráneo) has been toll-free since 01.01.2020, when the Aumar concession ended and 373.8 km were released — so Dénia, Calp, Benidorm and Peñíscola cost you nothing in péage, though fuel still does. Our own rule is full-to-full: the car leaves with a full tank and comes back full, or the missing fuel and a refuelling service fee are charged as set out in the rental agreement. A manager knows which of the six cars is free on your dates and can say so straight away, instead of confirming a model the system has already promised to someone else.
