Electric car rental in Toronto and the five models you can book
Our electric fleet runs five cars: Ford Mustang Mach-E, Polestar 2, Tesla Model Y, Tesla Model 3 and Porsche Taycan.
Which electric models are in the fleet
| Model | Body | Seats | Drive | Power | Daily rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ford Mustang Mach-E | Crossover | 5 | Rear-wheel | 266 hp | C$ 74 |
| Polestar 2 | Liftback | 5 | Rear-wheel | 299 hp | C$ 77 |
| Tesla Model Y | Crossover | 5 | All-wheel | 384 hp | C$ 91 |
| Tesla Model 3 | Sedan | 5 | Rear-wheel | 283 hp | C$ 98 |
| Porsche Taycan | Sedan | 4 | All-wheel | 670 hp | C$ 600 |
Crossover, sedan or liftback — matching the car to the trip
Two crossovers, two sedans and one liftback cover city driving, airport runs and longer escapes differently. The Taycan is the outlier: 670 hp, all-wheel drive, four seats.
What electric car rental in Toronto costs per day and per week
Our electric car rental in Toronto runs from C$ 74 to C$ 600 a day across five cars, and long bookings follow two fixed multipliers rather than a nightly rate that drifts.
Daily rates across the five cars
| Model | Seats | Drive | Daily rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ford Mustang Mach-E | 5 | Rear-wheel | C$ 74 |
| Polestar 2 | 5 | Rear-wheel | C$ 77 |
| Tesla Model Y | 5 | All-wheel | C$ 91 |
| Tesla Model 3 | 5 | Rear-wheel | C$ 98 |
| Porsche Taycan | 4 | All-wheel | C$ 600 |
The fleet starts at C$ 74 a day for the Mustang Mach-E and reaches C$ 600 for the Porsche Taycan. The four cars below the top of the range sit close together — C$ 74, C$ 77, C$ 91 and C$ 98 — so the choice between them is about body, drive and seats rather than budget. The Taycan is the outlier: 670 hp, all-wheel drive and four seats instead of five.
Weekly and monthly bookings
A week of electric car rental in Toronto starts at C$ 444 and a month at C$ 1,554, calculated as six and twenty-one daily rates. The arithmetic is the same for every car in the fleet: seven days are charged as six daily rates, thirty days as twenty-one. On the Mustang Mach-E that puts a week at C$ 444 and a month at C$ 1,554; the Tesla Model Y works out to C$ 546 a week and C$ 1,911 a month, and the Porsche Taycan to C$ 3,600 and C$ 12,600. Every car in the fleet is automatic and electric, so the multipliers apply the same way whether you take the four-seat Taycan or one of the five-seat crossovers and sedans.
The deposit, the insurance excess and any delivery fee are set out in the rental agreement and are not quoted on this page.
Charging an electric car rental in Toronto
Every car in the Rent-Trip electric fleet runs on battery power alone — five models, all automatic, all delivered to your address or the airport.
What happens when the battery runs low
Route planning: check charger spacing before a long out-of-town run, not after the warning light appears.
Delivery for your electric car rental in Toronto
Address, hotel and airport delivery
Rent-Trip delivers electric car rental in Toronto to any address in the city and to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) and John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM). Beyond those three airports, the delivery area covers Union Station, Downtown Toronto, Mississauga, North York, Scarborough and Vaughan — all of them inside the same zone.
How the booking is agreed with a manager
Address and timing: the delivery address, the date and the time are agreed with a manager before the booking is fixed, so nothing is assumed on either side.
Picking up at the airport or in the city
For a longer escape towards Niagara Falls, Muskoka or Algonquin Park, take the car where you land and keep moving.
Documents and winter driving for electric car rental in Toronto
Two things decide whether an electric car goes smoothly in winter: the paperwork you carry and how the vehicle is set up for the road.
Licence rules for visitors
- Under 3 months in Ontario: a visitor can drive on a valid driver's licence from their own province, state or country, no local permit needed.
- Over 3 months from another country: an International Driver's Permit (IDP) issued by your own country is required — Ontario does not issue IDPs, so arrange it before you fly.
- Insurance and registration: the driver must carry insurance for the car and the original or an exact copy of the ownership permit.
- Minimum age by law: 16, though the age at which we hand over a car is agreed when booking.
- Zero alcohol for new drivers: drivers 21 and under, and holders of G1 or G2 licences, must show zero blood alcohol.
If your stay runs past three months, order it before you travel.
Winter tyres and the Quebec border
Winter tyres are not mandatory in Ontario, so our cars are not required to run them by law. Quebec is different: from 1 December to 15 March, vehicles registered in Quebec — rental cars included — must be fitted with winter tyres, and a fine applies. Cars plated in other provinces fall outside that rule, which matters if you plan a run to Montreal or Quebec City.
Highway speed limits
Read the signs rather than the habit you brought with you. Ontario's alcohol thresholds are equally unforgiving: criminal liability starts at 0.08 (80 mg per 100 ml of blood), and the 0.05–0.079 "warn range" brings an immediate 7-day licence suspension, an 8-hour course and a fine for a first offence.
Is electric car rental in Toronto worth it
Whether an electric car pays off depends on how you drive. For a city break with airport transfers and day trips, the five cars we keep in Toronto cover the whole range of trip types — from the C$ 74 a day Mustang Mach-E to the C$ 600 Porsche Taycan.
The case for going electric rests on three things: running costs, drive quality and the charging network you actually use.
The case against is narrower than it looks.
Two crossovers, two sedans and one liftback sit in the fleet, and the shape matters more than the badge. A family of five fits the Model Y or the Mach-E; two travellers with luggage are better served by the four-seat Taycan or the Polestar 2.
The arithmetic is simple enough to check before you commit. Delivery to your address or to Pearson, Billy Bishop or Hamilton airport is agreed with a manager when the booking is fixed, which removes the transfer leg entirely.
An electric car is worth it when your driving is mostly urban, your stops have chargers and your luggage fits the car you pick.
Renting an electric car in Toronto with Rent-Trip
You tell a manager where the car should arrive, on what date and at what time, and the booking is fixed once those three points are agreed.
What the booking covers
- Five electric models: Ford Mustang Mach-E, Polestar 2, Tesla Model Y, Tesla Model 3 and Porsche Taycan, all automatic, from C$ 74 to C$ 600 a day.
- Delivery: to any address in the city and to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) and John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM).
- Longer stays: weekly from C$ 444 and monthly from C$ 1,554, calculated as six and twenty-one daily rates.
- Paperwork: the deposit, the insurance excess, delivery fees and any discount are set out in the rental agreement and never quoted as a figure before you book.
Choosing between the five cars
Two crossovers, two sedans and one liftback cover very different trips. The Mustang Mach-E is the cheapest way in at C$ 74 a day with 266 hp and rear-wheel drive; the Polestar 2 liftback sits just above it at C$ 77 with 299 hp. Four of the five seat five; the Taycan seats four, which makes it a two-traveller car with luggage rather than a family choice.
What to have ready before the hand-over
- Licence: visitors to Ontario for less than 3 months drive on a valid licence from their own province, state or country; anyone staying longer from another country needs an International Driver's Permit (IDP) from their own country, and it cannot be obtained in Canada.
- Insurance and registration: the driver must carry insurance for the car and the original or an exact copy of the ownership permit; the legal minimum driving age in Ontario is 16.
- Winter tyres: winter tyres are not mandatory in Ontario, unlike Quebec, where they are required from 1 December to 15 March for Quebec-registered cars, hire cars included, with a fine for non-compliance; cars plated in other provinces are not covered by that rule.
- Crossing to the US: most cars hired in Canada may be taken into the United States, but only with permission from the pick-up point, and driving out without written permission breaks both the agreement and the insurance; carry your passport at the border.
