What Salik Costs and Who Pays

Salik is Dubai's barrier-free toll system. You never stop at a booth; overhead sensors read a tag attached to your car's windshield. Each time you pass a gate, the toll is deducted from a prepaid account linked to that tag.

The toll is AED 4 per gate during off-peak hours (before 7 AM, between 10 AM and 4 PM, and after 10 PM) and AED 6 during peak hours (7–10 AM and 4–10 PM, Saturday to Thursday). Friday is a working day in the UAE, so peak pricing applies from 7–10 AM and 4–10 PM as well. There is no charge for passing a gate on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) between 1 AM and 6 AM? What Happens If Something Goes Wrong

Salik gates rarely malfunction, but if you pass without a valid tag or with an insufficient balance, the system records your plate number. The fine is AED 100 for the first offence and AED 200 for repeat offences within a year. Since our cars have working tags, you won't face this unless you tamper with the tag or remove it—please don't.

If you receive a fine for any reason, contact us immediately. We will investigate and, if it was our fault (e.g., a faulty tag), we cover the fine. If it was due to your action, you'll be responsible. To avoid issues, always use the designated lanes—every lane is a Salik lane, so there's no separate payment booth.

Our comprehensive insurance (CDW) is included in the rental price, but it does not cover traffic fines. You'll need to pay any Salik-related penalties directly. We hold a security deposit on your card at pickup; this is released after the rental, usually within a few days, provided there are no outstanding fines or damages.
