Engines sit between 1.0 L and 1.5 L, with outputs from 67 hp in the Kia Picanto and Hyundai i10 up to 116 hp in the Yaris. Four models carry four people — Kia Picanto, Toyota Aygo, Hyundai i10 and Fiat 500 — and the remaining twelve seat five. With one automatic against fifteen manuals, book the Yaris early if you need it.

The car comes clean with a full tank and must be returned full (lleno-lleno). That is the only fuel option we offer: no pre-paid tank, no full-to-empty. Driving an economy car rental in Valencia in the low-emission zone

The ZBE València (Zona de Bajas Emisiones) covers 27.8 km² inside Ronda Nord, the avenidas de Tarongers and Serradora and Bulevard Sud. Cars with Spanish plates and a DGT sticker are not affected — the restrictions target category A only.

The ZBE València and the DGT sticker

The ZBE València restricts only cars without a DGT sticker (category A) — petrol registered before 2001 and diesel before 2006 — while vehicles carrying a B, C, ECO or 0 sticker are outside the restriction. The ordinance was approved by the Comisión de Patrimonio on 21.10.2025 and was to be ratified by the plenary to enter into force on 01.12.2025, phased through 2028: from 01.12.2025 to 31.12.2026 only cars without a sticker registered outside the province of Valencia are limited; through 2027 those registered outside the city; from 01.01.2028 all category A cars, residents included. Cameras are described as «hasta seis cajas, pero solo dos radares que irán rotando».

Speed cameras and the roads around the city

Fixed speed cameras sit on the V-21 (acceso a Valencia) and the V-30 (vía rápida urbana), so watch the limit rather than the traffic. The AP-7 (Autopista del Mediterráneo) has been toll-free since 01.01.2020, when the Aumar concession ended and 373.8 km were released, which is why Dénia, Calp, Benidorm and Peñíscola are reached from here without a péage. On ordinary roads the ceiling is 120 km/h on autopista and autovía and 90 km/h on a carretera convencional; in town it drops to 30 km/h on a single-lane street and 50 km/h where there are two or more lanes each way. Speeding fines follow the DGT table and run from 100 EUR with no points to 600 EUR with six.

Parking inside and outside the zone

• Zona azul centro y ensanches (Ciutat Vella, L'Eixample, Extramurs): two hours maximum, 1.00 EUR for 60 minutes and 1.70 EUR for 120, billed in five-minute steps.
• Zona azul resto ciudad: the same two-hour cap at 0.80 EUR for 60 minutes and 1.50 EUR for 120.
• Zona naranja (mixed resident and rotation): non-residents pay 2.10 EUR for 60 minutes in rotation hours — Ciutat Vella 9:00–20:00 Monday to Friday, Ruzafa, El Botànic and La Roqueta 9:00–19:00, Saturday 9:00–15:00 everywhere.

Parking zones and what they cost

• Zona azul centro y ensanches: Ciutat Vella, L'Eixample and Extramurs, maximum two hours, €0.55 up to 25 minutes, €1.00 for 60 minutes, €1.70 for 120.
• Zona azul resto ciudad: the same two-hour cap outside the centre, cheaper at €0.30, €0.80 and €1.50 for the same three durations.
• Zona naranja: mixed resident-and-rotation bays; non-residents pay €1.10, €2.10 or €3.30, and only during rotation hours.
• Zona verde: residents with a permit only — not available to a hire car at all.

Rotation hours differ by district: Ciutat Vella runs Monday to Friday 09:00–20:00, while Ruzafa, El Botànic and La Roqueta run 09:00–19:00, and the naranja bays charge on Saturday 09:00–15:00 everywhere. Outside those windows the bays belong to residents. The tariff grid moves in five-minute steps, so a 40-minute stop costs less than an hour.

The low-emission zone and where you can leave the car

The ZBE València covers 27.8 km² inside Ronda Nord, the avenidas de Tarongers and Serradora, and Bulevard Sud. From 01.12.2025 to 31.12.2026 the restriction applies only to category A cars — petrol registered before 2001 and diesel before 2006 — registered outside the province of Valencia. From 01.01.2027 it extends to category A cars registered outside the city, and from 01.01.2028 to all category A vehicles including residents'. Vehicles with Spanish plates and a DGT sticker (B, C, ECO or 0) fall outside the restriction, which covers category A only. A DANA moratorium suspends the rules until 31.12.2027 for stickerless cars of owners registered in municipalities hit by the 2024 floods.

Fuel: what a tank costs

Gasolina 95 E5 in the municipality of València averages €1.978 per litre, with a median of €2.039 across 62 stations, a low of €1.74 and a high of €2.089. Across the wider province the average drops to €1.915 over 602 stations. Gasóleo A averages €1.923 in the city and €1.896 province-wide; Gasolina 98 E5 sits at €2.148 and €2.125 respectively. Filling up in the wider province tends to cost less than in the city.

Day trips on an economy car rental in Valencia

The AP-7 (Autopista del Mediterráneo) between Salou (Tarragona) and Alicante has been toll-free since 01.01.2020, when the Aumar concession ended and 373.8 km were released — so Dénia, Calp, Benidorm and Peñíscola cost nothing in péage. • Albufera and El Saler: 21,120 hectares, declared a natural park on 08.07.1986, roughly twenty minutes south of the city.
• Cullera and Gandia: sandy beach towns south of the city, no toll on the way.
• Dénia and Jávea: the northern Costa Blanca run on the toll-free AP-7, 107 km to Dénia.
• Peñíscola and Benidorm: resort towns further along the same free motorway, best started early.
• Requena and Utiel wine country and Chulilla: inland routes where a full tank matters more than horsepower.

The zona naranja is mixed resident-and-rotation, and non-residents may use it only during rotation hours, which differ by district — Ciutat Vella runs Monday to Friday 9:00–20:00, Ruzafa, El Botànic and La Roqueta Monday to Friday 9:00–19:00, and everywhere Saturday 9:00–15:00.

A 4-seat Kia Picanto at €15 a day has 67 hp and a 5-seat Dacia Sandero at €16 has 91 hp, so the Sandero is the better pick for a loaded motorway run.
