The ฿2,700 Ford Everest and the ฿2,750 Toyota Fortuner 2.8 4x4 carry seven on diesel with automatic transmission. A 7-seat diesel costs the same per day as a 5-seat petrol SUV, so seat count is effectively free: the Everest at ฿2,700 sits below the ฿3,500 BMW X3, and the Fortuner matches the ฿2,750 Subaru Forester while adding two seats. For a group of five or six, one Fortuner means one car, one driver, one set of keys.

Delivery, tanks and what the class list does not tell you

We deliver to any address in Bangkok and to Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) and Don Mueang Airport (DMK); the delivery address, the date and the time are agreed with a manager before the booking is fixed, and a delivery fee, if any, is agreed at the same moment. The car arrives clean with a full tank, and rental is available from one day. Toyota Fortuner 2.8 4x4, Ford Everest and Toyota Hilux Revo Double Cab 2.8 4x4 are the true 4x4 cars on this page, and all three run diesel with an automatic gearbox. The Hilux Revo is the cheapest car here at ฿1,700 per day, 204 hp from its 2.8 L engine, five seats and a pickup bed. The Fortuner carries the same 2.8 L and 204 hp but seats seven at ฿2,750 per day. Ford Everest sits between them at ฿2,700 per day: 2.0 L, 170 hp, seven seats, diesel, automatic. All three are right-hand drive, as every car in Thailand is, and traffic keeps to the left. The Everest undercuts the ฿3,500 BMW X3 while carrying two more passengers.

How delivery works for 4x4 car rental in Bangkok

We deliver the car to any address in Bangkok and to Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) and Don Mueang Airport (DMK). The delivery address, the date and the time are agreed with a manager before the booking is fixed, and a delivery fee, if any, is agreed when booking. Delivery elsewhere is arranged case by case and is not promised on the site. The car arrives clean with a full tank, and rental is available from 1 day. From Suvarnabhumi the drive to the old centre is 40.6 km by road, about 52 minutes without traffic. Ask the manager to build in time for that run rather than booking the hand-over straight after a landing time.

What you need before the booking is fixed

• Home driving licence: a national licence from your country of residence.
• International Driving Permit: required alongside the home licence under the 1949 Geneva Convention; ASEAN citizens may drive on their national licence instead.
• Bank card: a card in the main driver's name is used for the security hold — the amount is set out in the rental agreement.
• Age: the minimum driver age is 21; conditions for drivers under 25 and for premium classes are set out in the rental agreement.
• Child seats: children under 6 travel in a TISI-standard child seat, and passengers below 135 cm need a restraint or a booster.

A foreign visitor needs a home driving licence plus an International Driving Permit, and Thailand drives on the left with right-hand drive.

What to bring to the hand-over

• Minimum age: 21. Conditions for drivers under 25 and for premium classes are set out in the agreement.

Citizens of ASEAN countries may drive on their national licence without a permit. Everyone else carries both documents together — the fine for driving without a permit runs ฿500–1,000, and an insurer may refuse a claim, which on a 4x4 is the expensive half of that sentence.

Driving rules that matter on a 4x4

Speed limits in the city are 80 km/h in built-up areas and 90 km/h outside them, rising to 120 km/h on the motorway (M7, M9) and 110 km/h on the expressways. Every car on this page is automatic, so the left-hand traffic and the right-hand drive are the only two things your hands have to relearn — the first hour in Sukhumvit or Silom is where that happens, not the motorway.

• Alcohol: the published limit is 20 mg/dl for drivers under 20, holders of temporary licences, drivers without a licence or with a suspended one; for any other driver, treat any drink as a reason not to drive.
• Child seats: children under 6 travel in a TISI-standard child seat, and below 135 cm a seat or a special restraint is required — the fine reaches ฿2,000.
• Seat belts: every passenger, including the rear row.
• Kerbside parking: no stopping at red-and-white or yellow-and-white kerbs.

Camera fines are issued to the car owner, which is us, and re-invoiced to the renter — so a ticket can reach you after you have already flown home. Where a 4x4 car rental in Bangkok takes you outside the city

The 4x4 that we arrange is not only for the city streets. Motorway 7 runs 149.3 km from the capital towards Chonburi, Pattaya and Map Ta Phut, and it passes Suvarnabhumi Airport on the way — which is why the same car you collect for a week in the city works for a run to the coast. Thailand drives on the left and every car in our fleet is right-hand drive, so plan your first exit onto a motorway with that in mind.

The Department of Highways table for Motorway 7 lists ฿25 from the Lat Krabang entrance to Bang Bo, ฿100 to Pong and ฿105 to Pattaya for a four-wheeled vehicle. For a hire car, the practical question is whether the tag is linked to the vehicle; ask at hand-over how an unpaid M-Flow reading is settled.

• Pattaya: 125.865 km along Motorway 7 from the Bangkok end.
• Hua Hin: a southern run of several hours, sensible as an overnight rather than a day return.
• Ko Samet: a coastal run to the ferry piers at Ban Phe, with the car parked on the mainland.

The 7-seat Toyota Fortuner 2.8 4x4 and Ford Everest both return 204 hp and 170 hp respectively from diesel engines on Motorway 7, and the ฿2,750-a-day Fortuner costs less than a ฿3,500 BMW X3 for the same week of highway miles. On a longer booking the weekly rate starts at ฿10,200, so a seven-day loop out to Khao Yai and back is priced as one period rather than as separate days.

Insurance, tolls and fines on a 4x4 car rental in Bangkok

Every registered car in Thailand carries compulsory motor insurance, Por Ror Bor, which covers injury to third parties. We do not quote a deposit figure or an excess amount on this page: both belong to the agreement, and the amount of the security hold is confirmed there too.

What the two insurance layers actually do

• Por Ror Bor: compulsory cover attached to every registered vehicle, paying for injury to third parties; it follows the car, not the driver.
• Class 1: covers damage to the car itself; what it includes and the excess you carry are set out in the rental agreement.
• Security hold: a bank card in the main driver's name is used for it; the amount is set out in the agreement.
• Camera fines: traffic-camera penalties are issued to the car owner and re-invoiced to the renter, so they reach you after the trip, not at hand-over.

Tolls on a 4x4 car rental in Bangkok

The city expressways — Chaloem Maha Nakhon, Si Rat and the rest of the EXAT network — take cash or a tag, and M-PASS and Easy Pass are interchangeable, though one car carries one tag. A short expressway hop in a passenger car runs roughly ฿50–100 as a guide, not an official tariff. Motorway 7 toward Pattaya is metered by nine payment points: from the Lat Krabang entrance a passenger car pays ฿25 to Bang Bo, ฿100 to Pong and ฿105 to Pattaya. Motorway 9, the outer Kanchanaphisek ring, uses M-Flow — no barrier, a camera reads the plate and the bill follows — and a guide figure for a car is ฿30–70. Don Muang Tollway, 28.1 km above Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, runs ฿60–115 as a guide.

M-Flow and the bill that arrives after you

M-Flow can be paid without registration within two days of the crossing by plate number — through the M-Flow site or app, a QR code, a bank or an ATM. From the third day the tariff doubles, then adds a further 2× plus a penalty of 10× the tariff, and after that the case can go to court. The practical point for a renter: ask at hand-over how an M-Flow bill is settled. Ask at hand-over whether the tag is linked, and settle any crossings before you fly — it is far cheaper than chasing a doubled tariff from abroad.

Driving rules that turn into money
