What does change the number is the class: the daily rate is a property of the car, and the monthly figure simply carries it forward. Who Qualifies for Monthly Car Rental in Tbilisi and Which Papers Are Needed

Foreign licences are valid in Georgia for up to a year from your date of entry, and no exchange is required. Georgia is a party to the 1968 Vienna Convention, so a home licence in Latin or Cyrillic script is enough on its own. If your licence carries neither script, bring an International Driving Permit or a notarised translation — we ask for one of the two when the booking is confirmed. The recognition and replacement of foreign licences is governed by the Law of Georgia on Road Traffic and by an order of the Minister of Internal Affairs.

• Driving licence: a current licence, in Latin or Cyrillic script; if it has neither, an IDP or a notarised translation comes with it.

• Age and driving experience: the minimum age and the required length of experience are agreed when booking, not fixed by Georgian law.

The twelve months run from the date you entered Georgia, not from the day you collect the car, so a long stay can put you close to the limit before the month is over. Ask about your own dates before you commit to a month, not after.

Who can be behind the wheel during the month

Georgia's own rules are light on paperwork but firm on behaviour: the blood alcohol limit is 0.3 ‰, seat belts are required for the driver and front passengers, and rear belts are not compulsory by law — a rear belt is still worth using on the mountain roads. Winter tyres are mandatory from 1 December to 1 March, and in zones the government designates, chains on at least the two front wheels may be required in heavy weather. Speed limits are 60 km/h in built-up areas, 20 km/h in residential zones, 90 km/h outside towns and 110 km/h on motorways.

What a month-long hand-over actually needs

A month is long enough that the hand-over matters less than what happens on day two, day fifteen and day thirty. If your plans in the city move — a different flat, a different district — say so when the delivery address is agreed, not on the morning of the hand-over.

Delivery and return timing

We do not publish delivery fees or a fixed hand-over window on this page: the delivery fee, the deposit and the insurance excess are set out in the rental agreement. What is fixed on our side is the fuel rule and the full tank at hand-over.

Insurance, Breakdowns and What Is Included in a Monthly Rental

Compulsory third-party motor insurance (OSAGO) is not yet mandatory for owners of Georgian-registered cars. As of 5 September 2026 the government has put its introduction into the autumn legislative work plan, with no date named. A car hired here carries Georgian plates, so the mandatory insurance scheme for foreign-registered vehicles does not apply to it. What the agreement does provide is cover for the car, the driver and the passengers — the CDW and Super CDW options — and that cover is what applies to a monthly booking in Tbilisi just as it does to a shorter one. Personal belongings inside the car are not covered by standard insurance, so keep a laptop, a passport and a camera out of sight when the car is parked overnight.

One thing worth doing on day one of a long booking: photograph the car yourself, inside and out, and keep the pictures until the deposit is released. Over a month, small marks appear on any car, and having your own record of the condition at hand-over is the simplest way to avoid a dispute at the end.

A month is a long exposure for both sides, so the paperwork matters more than it does on a three-day hire.

Extending a booking

Extending a monthly booking is agreed with a manager, in the same way the original one was. Tell us as early as you can — a car that is already reserved for the next client cannot be extended, and the longer the notice, the easier it is to keep the same vehicle rather than swap you into another one. If you want a different class for the second month, say so at the same time. Swapping mid-rental is not automatic. Fuel runs full-to-full: the car comes with a full tank and goes back full, and a missing tank is charged with a refuelling service fee as set out in the agreement. Plan the last refuel before the return, not after it.

Driving a Monthly Rental Car Around Georgia and Beyond

A month behind the wheel in Tbilisi is enough time to treat the whole country as a day-trip map — and the rules you drive under stay the same whether you are crossing Vake or climbing towards the Jvari Pass.

What the road rules actually require

Speed limits in Georgia are 60 km/h in built-up areas, 20 km/h in residential zones, 90 km/h outside built-up areas for category B, and 110 km/h on motorways; with a light trailer the outside limit drops to 80 km/h. Seat belts are required for the driver and all front passengers — rear belts are not compulsory by law. Phones only through a hands-free kit or speaker, both hands on the wheel. Children under 3 travel in the back in a child seat or restraint matched to height and weight, and a child under 6 may not be left alone in a parked car. The alcohol limit is 0.3 permille. Winter tyres are mandatory from 1 December to 1 March, and in government-designated zones chains on at least two front wheels may be required in particular weather.

Fuel, tolls and parking on a long hire

• Tolls: all international and domestic roads in Georgia remain free of charge, with no vignettes and no transponders, including the 52 km Rikoti section on the east–west route with its 51 tunnels and 97 bridges.
• Parking: zonal street parking costs from 1 lari an hour after the first 15 free minutes, payable through the Tbilisi Parking app or at terminals; an unpaid session is fined 50 lari.
• Mountain roads: the S3 Georgian Military Road runs 139 km from Mtskheta to the Russian border at Stepantsminda, topping out at the 2,379 m Jvari Pass — upper sections close during avalanche risk, so check conditions the morning you leave.

Crossing into Armenia

The Sadakhlo–Bagratashen checkpoint lies roughly 80 km south of the capital, and Yerevan is about 280 km away — four to five hours including the border. Land crossings into Azerbaijan are sealed to passengers. A rental car leaves Georgia only for Armenia and only with our driver; a self-drive car stays in Georgia.
