From Girona-Costa Brava Airport (GRO) the route to Cadaqués is 89.4 km and takes about 80 minutes. From Roses the distance is 75.2 km from GRO, 63 minutes. Road limits are 120 km/h on the AP-7 and 90 km/h on the GI-614, GI-682 and C-260.
- Parking at the cape: from July to 13 September the lighthouse road is closed to cars 9:30–21:30 every day — leave the car at Corral d'en Morell and take the Moventis 33 shuttle.
Timing the day
The drive from the airport to the cape is about 86 minutes, so on a restricted day plan the last stretch around the closure hours.
Driving rules on the cape road with car rental in Costa Brava
The road to Cap de Creus is not a normal coastal drive: the last stretch to the cape runs through the Parc Natural de Cap de Creus, and from late March to 1 November the access road is closed to private cars on set days and hours, with a shuttle running to the lighthouse. For anyone travelling with us, the practical point is that the car gets you to Cadaqués and the surrounding villages, but the final approach may have to be timed around the restriction calendar.
When the Cadaqués–Far de Cap de Creus road is closed
- Late March: 28–31 March, the road is restricted from 9:30 to 19:00.
- June: 6, 7, 13, 14 and 20–30 June, 9:30–21:30.
On a restricted day, leave the car at Corral d'en Morell and take the Moventis 33 shuttle to the lighthouse; the village of Cadaqués itself is not restricted.
Driving conditions on the approach roads
- Speed limits: 120 km/h on autopista and autovía (AP-7, A-2, C-32, C-33); 90 km/h on carretera convencional, which covers the GI-614 and C-260 that carry you towards the cape.
- Road mix from Girona-Costa Brava Airport (GRO): the 89.4 km to Cadaqués breaks down as 41.8 km on the AP-7, 16.7 km on the GI-614, 14.6 km on the C-260, 5.7 km on the N-II and 2.7 km on the GI-534.
- Tolls: the AP-7 corridor from La Jonquera south past Girona has been toll-free since 01.09.2021, so the motorway leg costs nothing.
