In our experience the registration is the step travellers miss, and it is the one that decides whether the drive into the centre is legal at all.

Speed limits and fines in the city

• Motorway (autopista / autovía): 120 km/h for cars and motorcycles up to 3 500 kg; inside the city the Rondes B-10 and B-20 are capped at 80 km/h unless a sign says otherwise.
• Ordinary out-of-town road (carretera convencional): 90 km/h, and the road owner may raise it to 100 km/h.
• City street with a single platform for traffic and pavement: 20 km/h.
• City street with one lane each way: 30 km/h, and the municipality may raise it to 50 km/h by sign.
