A weekly booking is charged as daily × 6, from €210, and a monthly one as daily × 21, from €735. Those are the only two long-booking rules we apply: seven days cost the daily rate six times over, thirty days cost it twenty-one times over, and nothing else changes the arithmetic — not the class, not the model, not the date.

If the wedding falls mid-week, a weekly rate usually beats paying for separate single days. Renting a vehicle for a wedding in Barcelona, ZBE, parking, tolls

A wedding car rental in Barcelona is delivered to you with the paperwork sorted, but the driving rules inside the city are yours to follow. The ZBE Rondes BCN low-emission zone, the AREA Blava parking meters and the C-16 toll tunnel all apply to a hired vehicle exactly as they apply to any other vehicle on the road.

The low-emission zone you drive through on the wedding day

The Zona de Bajas Emisiones Rondas de Barcelona (ZBE Rondes BCN) covers more than 95 km² — the whole municipality except the Zona Franca industrial estate and the Vallvidrera – el Tibidabo i les Planes neighbourhood, plus L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Sant Adrià de Besòs and parts of Esplugues de Llobregat and Cornellà de Llobregat. It operates on working days, Monday to Friday. The permit sticker is the distintivo ambiental: 0 emisiones (blue) or ECO (blue-green). Vehicles on foreign plates need prior registration in the Registre metropolità de vehicles estrangers i altres vehicles autoritzats a les zones de baixes emissions. Parking near the ceremony and the reception

• AREA Blava A (blue zone, tariff A): €2.5 per hour — the standard rate on the central streets around Ciutat Vella and L'Eixample.
• AREA Blava B (blue zone, tariff B): €2.25 per hour — the cheaper tier found further from the centre.
• Resident zones at weekends: the AREA meters follow their own timetable, and the resident zones relax their restrictions at weekends, which matters for a Saturday ceremony.
• Comprovant d'estacionament: the ticket from the parquímetre must carry the same plate number as the car, or the payment does not count.

Tolls and the route out of the city

The C-16 through the Túnels de Vallvidrera, the tunnel that takes you out of the city towards Sant Cugat and the Vallès, charges €4.7 for a passenger car. Peaje rates differ between hora punta and hora vall, so a late-evening drive back from a venue in the hills costs less than the same run at rush hour. If the wedding is in Sitges, Montserrat or the Penedès wine country, the route leaves the ZBE behind within twenty minutes and the only recurring cost is the toll. On the motorway the limit is 120 km/h; on an ordinary carretera convencional it is 90 km/h; inside the city it drops to 30 km/h on a street with one lane each way and 50 km/h where there are two or more lanes in one direction.

One practical point from our own hand-overs: the car arrives with a full tank under the lleno a lleno policy, and the return is arranged with the same level, so a wedding-day detour to a gasolinera is rarely needed. Check the plate on any comprovant before you leave the car, because a mismatched ticket is a multa that arrives weeks later.

Documents, insurance and the rental agreement for a wedding car in Barcelona

Spanish law makes the paperwork side of a wedding booking simpler than most couples expect: every car on our fleet already carries compulsory third-party cover, and the rest of the conditions sit in one agreement that is settled when booking.

What the law requires of any wedding car hire in Spain

• Seguro Obligatorio de Responsabilidad Civil: compulsory third-party cover is included in every booking by Spanish law and applies always, even if the person driving was not named in the agreement; it covers injury and damage to third parties, not the driver and not the car.
• Liability limits: 70 million EUR per incident for personal injury, however many people are hurt, and 15 million EUR per incident for property damage.
• Driving age: you may drive in Spain from 18 with a category B licence; the minimum age for renting is agreed when booking.
• Licences from the EU/EEA: valid in Spain as they are until they expire, with no extra document needed.
• Licences from outside the EU/EEA: valid for driving as a visitor; an International Driving Permit is recommended by the DGT before you travel, and where a licence is not in Spanish it is valid either with an official certified translation or if issued to the Annex 9 or Annex 6 model — the permit is an alternative to the translation, and is only ever shown together with your passport and national licence.
• Passport or ID: the original in the main driver's name, as rental companies require.

Insurance options on top of the compulsory cover

• CDW (Collision Damage Waiver): an optional add-on that removes your liability for damage to the car itself after a collision with another vehicle or an object, except for the excess; vandalism is excluded if it did not happen while you were using the car.
• THW (Theft Protection): removes liability for full or partial theft, and for vandalism damage, again except for the excess.
• SCDW and SPCDW: partial and full buy-out of the excess left uncovered by CDW; neither works if CDW was not taken or if a CDW exclusion applies.
• STHW and SPTHW: the same partial and full buy-out for the theft excess.
• WWI (Glass and Tyres Protection): a separate option for windscreen and tyres, which basic CDW usually leaves out.
• Franquicia (excess): the fixed amount you pay yourself when there is damage; it is printed in the agreement whether or not you bought a buy-out, and the figure depends on the provider and the class of car — the amount is set out in the agreement.

What to check before you sign

Spanish consumer rules give you two useful rights on a wedding day. The advertised price must include every compulsory charge without which the car cannot legally be driven — compulsory third-party cover, the young-driver surcharge and the like. And every scratch and dent must be written into the agreement or the inspection sheet before you drive off, signed by both sides, with a copy for you; otherwise the damage is charged to you. Ask for that sheet at hand-over, photograph nothing in its place — the written record is what counts. If the model you booked is not available, you may ask for another car at no extra cost, even a class above; if you are given a lower class, the price must come down, and if the car does not match the agreed conditions — an automatic gearbox, four doors — you can cancel and get your prepayment back.
