Seat count is the first filter, not the price. A group of seven squeezed into a five-seat sedan will pay more in discomfort than it saves in the daily rate, and a 12-seat van rarely makes sense for two people moving between Central Pattaya and Wong Amat. Count the luggage as well as the adults. Every car in the fleet is automatic, so no one needs to relearn a manual gearbox on the left-hand side of the road.

VAT 7% is already inside every price we show, and compulsory motor insurance (Por Ror Bor) comes with the car as it does with any registered vehicle in Thailand. First-class insurance covers damage to the car itself; its terms and the excess are set out in the rental agreement. The security hold is taken on a bank card in the main driver's name, and the amount is set out in the agreement rather than quoted here. A delivery fee, if one applies to your address, is agreed when booking.

Ways to keep the cost down

• Book by the week, not by the day: seven days are charged as six daily rates, so a longer stay lowers your cost per day without changing the car.

Paying for longer hire

A month of hire starts at ฿27,090 on the cheapest Minivan. For guests staying through the high season, from November to February, that is the difference between a fixed monthly figure and a bill that grows with every extra day. Fuel and any traffic fines are separate from the price: Motorway 7 fines are issued to the car owner and re-invoiced to the renter, and diesel B7 sits around ฿41.44 a litre. Ask the manager to fix the return date in writing when you book, so the multiplier you agreed is the one that applies.

Two things to settle when you book. First, the route — the tolled Motorway 7 from Bangkok costs 105-130 ฿ for the whole trip, while the free Hwy 34 and Hwy 3 Sukhumvit run through Bang Saen and Bang Phra. Second, the clock: Songkran, or Wan Lai Pattaya, runs longer here than the national 13-15 April dates, and Beach Road closes to traffic.

Since 30 December 2025 a car rental agreement in Thailand is a contract controlled by the OCPB. It is written in Thai, and every fee and penalty is disclosed in it — worth reading before you sign, because traffic-camera fines are issued to the car owner and re-invoiced to the renter. The practical questions to ask at this stage: whether a child seat is needed, whether the boot takes four large suitcases, whether the same driver stays with you for a multi-day booking. Ask them while the booking is still being agreed, not on the morning of delivery.

When your plans change

Dates move, flights land late, a group grows by two people. The delivery time itself is confirmed with the manager, and any change to it is agreed the same way the original booking was.

Speed limits are 80 km/h in built-up areas, 90 km/h outside them and 120 km/h on Motorway 7; signs may lower the limit, and a speeding fine runs up to ฿1,000. On Motorway 7 the 120 km/h limit is enforced primarily by speed cameras, and a camera fine is issued to the car owner — that is, to us — and re-invoiced to the renter. Ask your driver to take the free Hwy 34 Bang Na–Trat and Hwy 3 Sukhumvit route instead of the tolled motorway.

Documents, insurance and the fines that follow the car

• Home licence plus IDP: a visitor needs a home driving licence and an International Driving Permit under the 1949 Geneva Convention, section 42 bis of the Motor Vehicle Act.

Parking, alcohol and the local calendar

The legal alcohol threshold is 20 mg/dl for drivers under 20, holders of temporary licences and drivers without a valid licence of the right category; for any other driver, treat any drink as a reason to hand the keys over. Children under six must ride in a child seat to the TISI standard, and passengers below 135 cm need a restraint or a special seat — the fine runs up to ฿2,000. During Songkran, Wan Lai Pattaya runs longer than the national 13–15 April holiday, and several roads close for water play; plan around the closures or ask the manager to shift your pick-up time.
