Insurance that sits under the trip

• Por Ror Bor: compulsory motor insurance covering injury to third parties, attached to every registered car.
• Class 1: first-class cover for damage to the car itself; its terms and the excess are set out in the rental agreement.
• Traffic-camera fines: issued to the car owner and re-invoiced to the renter, so a camera fine reaches you afterwards rather than at the roadside.

Since 30 December 2025 a car rental agreement is a contract controlled by the OCPB: it is written in Thai, and all fees and penalties are disclosed in it.

Two things move the cost of the run south beyond the daily rate: the expressways you use to get out of the capital and the fuel you burn over the 191.2 km by road.

Tolls and how they are paid

• Expressways: the urban EXAT routes (Chaloem Maha Nakhon, Si Rat and others) take cash or an Easy Pass tag; M-PASS tags are interchangeable with Easy Pass, but one car carries one tag.
• Motorway 7: the Bangkok–Chonburi–Pattaya–Map Ta Phut line runs 149.3 km with 9 payment points; from the Lat Krabang entry a four-wheel car pays 25 ฿ to Bang Bo, 100 ฿ to Pong and 105 ฿ to Pattaya, in cash or by M-PASS/Easy Pass.
• Motorway 9: the outer Kanchanaphisek ring uses M-Flow — no barrier, a camera reads the plate and the bill follows; M-PASS also works.
• Don Muang Tollway: 28.1 km above Vibhavadi Rangsit Road from Din Daeng to Don Mueang.
• M-Flow billing: without registration the charge must be paid within 2 days by plate number; from day three the rate doubles, then adds a penalty of 10× the toll.

Fuel for the run

The car comes clean with a full tank, and the class you pick decides the bill: diesel B7 costs more per litre than gasohol 95. Fuel is not covered by the rental.

Central Bangna gives 6 hours free, and Esplanade Ratchada, PARA Pinklao and Central Festival Eastville park you free. If you use Motorway 9, ask at hand-over whether the tag is linked and how M-Flow charges are settled.
